SeaRacer Age....??

Hi All -
So we get a 1/2 hour SeaRaycer(?) with our YC pkg. next month.
DS is dying to try!
I'd like to hear from any parents out there who have allowed it or not and how and why you made that decision. I know it's based on the kid - but I'm somewhat afraid my own fear of water - LOL - (yes, live on LI all my life and can't swim!) and over-protective nature.
What should I be thinking about and asking myself??

We just did the 1hr at the CR DD13 drove and had no issues at all, But I was right beside her in the passenger seat.We went around the edge checking out the MK and all the resorts , around Discovery Island a few times and then just played in the open water.

At the YC if you rent there ,there is less boat traffic to worry about and thats the only real concern.

The boats are very stable and not real fast. No other boats create a wake enough to be an issue.

The thing to remember about boats is they have no brakes, they lose steering when not under power and the Bigger Boat ALWAYS has the right of way.

My DD12 is finally old enough to go on her own this year. I'm not comfortable letting her go alone, but I will let her drive if that's what she decides she wants to do for a special treat. I guess I'm like the prior poster in that sense. It probably depends a lot on the age of your child and his/her relative maturity and experience. This is from the WDW website:

"A child must be at least 12 years old and at least 1.52 metres tall to drive a WaterMouse alone. There is a maximum combined weight of 320 lbs permitted for a WaterMouse, or 2 passengers. All drivers under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or legal guardian sign a release."

Also, take a look at your package information. I believe that you have to pay for an hour to get the free 30 minutes. I think that's way too long to be in a sea raycer and continue to be entertained. 1/2 hour was plenty of time for us when we did it a couple of years ago at Poly.

Can you rent these at DTD? For some reason I thought you had to have a drivers liscense.

Yes the DTD boat dock has them and I think someone has to leave a DL or resort key but not the person driving.
