We are planning to spend one day in San Diego at the end of Sept with DS(5) and DD(2).

DS is in love with sharks & sting rays... Will he have an opportunity to "pet" a sting ray?
Can anyone suggest a few "must do's"?
How long should we plan to be in the park for?

TIA!!

Yes, it is best to go at the feeding times and buy food, sometimes they tend to stay and from the walls.

The new dolphin shows it good. I also love the Wild Arctic area.

If you want to see all of the shows and do all the rides with you DS(5) I think you will be there all day. The shows are spread out, so just make sure you plan them in advance so you don't miss any. The park hours and not late because it is off season.

I love feeding the rays! It's really a lot of fun. There are also opportunities to feed the dolphins too. Other must do's for me is petting the star fishes & seeing the sharks & the Budweiser clydesdales. As for my favorite show, The Sea Lion & Otter Show is fun & entertaining! Another thing that's fun is making a reservation to Dine w/ Shamu. The food is really good (buffet style) & you get to see Shamu up close w/ the trainers & ask questions.

The Cyldesdales weren't there in Aug. The barn was all locked up.
The Pets Rule & Sea Lion shows are good too. I love the rays even without feeding them you still see them up close. The starfish exhibit is good with hands on opportunities.

Since your DS likes sharks then you'll have to see the sharks. There's a moving sidewalk thru the aquarium so you'll see the sharks swimming over your head.

Wild Arctic is one of my favorites. There's a motion & non-motion ride. It's like a helicopter simulator. This is where you'll find the bulagas, walrus & polar bears. Next to the wild Arctic is the penquin house. They're so funny to watch.
I saw the dolphin show twice and didn't really like it, not enough dolphin appearances. My son 14 wasn't thriled with it either.

Not sure how late it's open in Sep but we can spend the entire day, open to close, in the summer.
You'll have so much fun with little eyes. Oh yeah don't forget about the Sesame Play area, but only after you've seen all the other stuff otherwise the kids won't want to leave it. Pick up the map and plan the shows and hopefully seeing the rest will fall into place.

Thank you everyone!!! DH and I were talking about this one last night, he was wondering if we should maybe cancel and do something else, but now I must admit I'm pretty excited about seeing SW again!! Thanks!!!

Yes, the Clydesdales are no longer at Sea World since Anheuser-Busch sold the park to another company last year.

I was there yesterday.

The rays are very cool, and were hungry. They didn't mind being touched at all. The eels were also extrememly cool to see and photograph.

We weren't huge fans of the new dolphin show. The dolphins and pilot whales weren't actually in much of it. If you like aerialists, you might enjoy it.

We loved the Shamu Beleive show, and the underwater orca viewing area. Could have stayed there all day.

We ate lunch at Shipwreck cove and saw the sea turtles they have there.

We might return again to see the penguins and sharks...or just hang out in the orca area again for a few hours.

Bring sunscreen. I am nursing a pretty good sunburn now.
