I needed to see my primary care physician regarding some problems I am having with my arm. After finishing the exam, I had a chance to ask him a few questions about our upcoming Western cruise.

1) Should we protect ourselves against malaria if we do the Tulum Ruins tour on the Mexican mainland where there is a CDC advisory out? "No. A daytime, single day trip presents a low risk of infection. Weighing that against the cost, effort, and potential side effects of doing the antimalarial drugs, I would not recommend it."

2) What about seasickness? He recommends Meclizine only amount the actual medical treatments. His reasoning is that it is the only drug for motion sickness that can be taken sporadically and as needed. He said it is the only drug that can actually work well once you have started your trip in reducing motion sickness (and not just the symptoms). He characterized the patches, et. al. as treatments that require you to start and maintain drugs in your system, and felt that this was not advisable or necessary for most people. FWIW, it also said I can take Meclizine with my Allegra since they act differently from a pharmacological point of view and will not affect each other in terms of effectiveness or side effects.

Hope this helps others in some way.

Could you explaine this sentence, please :)

Also, is Meclizine Dramamine or Bonine?

Thanks!

That's very interesting about what your doctor said about malaria at the Tulum Ruins. I heard something about concerns about giving blood if you visited the Tulum Ruins. That they don't allow you, if you have in a certain amount of time. We're planning on doing the Tulum excursion in October. I can't wait!

Thanks!
Tina :)

you can get meclizine for free right outside of the med center. there is a big wall holder on the door that is full of it.
