Sea Raycer questions

I will be at WDW the week after Thanksgiving. I know I will want to rent a Sea Raycer. I have these questions:

Will I need a reservation? Or are they always available?
Are the size and power of the boats the same at all resorts?
Are all the lakes connected?

First of all, we never needed a reservation... there were plenty of boats available. Not sure if that is always the case.

As to size and power, I don't know for sure. I have read literature that they are all Sea Raycers, but some people on the boards have stated there are still some older, slower Water Mouse boats at the Crescent Lake & Lake Buena Vista marinas.

Some bodies of water are connected, mainly Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. IMHO, it is best to rent from one of the resorts on either of those bodies of water (Poly, CR, GF, WL, and FW) because you have several hundred acres of water to roam and explore on.

I would like to add that there have been times when my family attempted to rent a boat and there were none to be had -- they were all in use. Sometimes we chose to wait, and if we did, our wait was usually only 15 - 20 minutes. However, we have only found that happening during very busy times of the year. For the most part, there are always boats to rent. By the way, I don't think you can reserve a SeaRaycer. I believe we tried to do that a few years ago and were told that it's first come, first served.

We did rent SeaRaycers during our August vacation this year. There were seven of us and we needed five boats. The adults in our party had to produce driver's licenses to prove that we could drive and were of age. Had we not had our driver's licenses with us, we would have been unable to rent the boats (we also had to sign waiver forms). Just thought I'd bring that up. Don't forget your driver's license.
