I took mine on 7DMT at ages 2 & 5. They are generally good with rides and want to do them. In this case, neither hated it, 2 year old liked it but you wouldn't say it from the pictures; 5 year old said it was ok, but I would say they were nervous since he did opt out of BTMRR shortly after that one. Was still up for everything else after that.
I am currently having the same dilemma but with SDD since kids are so different and the perception people have of rides changes with their kids enjoyment. My kids are 6 and 9 now and saying they want to try it but I don't want to potentially ruin their experience of rides right at the start of the trip, not to mention waste my 7am LL, lol.
Up to this point I've been hearing that SDD was more fun/etc than SDMT but now in this thread I'm reading it's a more thrilling ride which to me means it's would be scarier? So hard to know what to do with the little ones.
