I'm using Touring Plans for the first time, and trying to nail down my Early EMH strategy. TP is suggesting that hitting Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at rope drop during EMH will have a wait of 67 minutes???

What are your experiences with rope drop and Mine Train? Should I just use FP and take advantage of other short lines during EMH?

This will be for the Friday of Memorial Day weekend (5/27).

Following...I am getting similar results for SDMT on touring plans (45 minute wait at rope drop in late April) and I am wondering if that is accurate.

If you are at the front of the rope drop crowd, the wait will be fairly short. If you're at the back of it, could be a while.

I would get a FP+ if you can and hold on to it.
Once you get there if you see your wait will be too long OR if the ride is not ready at EMH start you can use FP+.
If open and line short they switch your FP+ to something else.
We did the EMH rope drop plan of action and were quite up close on arrival ... but the train was not passing all it's checklist so we waited a LLLOOONNNGG time!
It is a very sensitive train.
It didn't start running until long after the park opened for normal hours.

I would do both. Plan to arrive at least a half an hour before RD. If the wait ends up being too long, you'll have one for later. If the wait is short, you'll be able to do it twice if you like (we wanted to do it again!) or change it for another ride.

That is an EMH morning...so by 9am, the park will have been open an hour.

Eta: I see you put EMH. So is TP starting you at 8 or 9?

Double check that it isn't an EMH morning....

It's accurate. I've been in the rushing rope drop crowd, & arrived to a 40+ minute line at 7DMT. You should FP 7DMT & do other attractions at rope drop. The only exception is if you can get an early pre-park opening ADR at BOG, & do 7DMT before the rope drop crowd arrives.

I would use a FP+ on it, for later in the morning or early afternoon (I like to schedule FP+ between 11 and 3 with a break for lunch somewhere) - since 7DMT is still relatively new with high demand, you can get much more bang for your buck (perhaps literally, soon if EMH =$$$) by going to other headliners first thing.

We did PP first, then IASW, Carousel, Pooh, and HM in like the first hour or 75m no sweat, then off to BTMRR & Splash - I believe we got FP+ for 7DMT, SM, and POC between noon and 3.

All in all we didn't wait >30m all day, though it was mid-October weekday in 2014, non EMH morning (so 9am open, RD around 8:45).

It fills up quick and majority of the people head straight for 7dmt. If you're near the front of the EMH crowd it should be a minimal wait. If you arrive near the back it could easily be a 30+min wait.

I would take advantage of the early EMH and knock out other rides and then use a FP for 7dmt if you can get it. Or do what we like to do, wait to ride it closer to park closing time when its dark out (rides a lot more fun at night imo) and you can usually get on with a fairly short wait. The later you can wait the shorter the line gets.

Use FP+ for Mine Train. Since the herd always heads straight for Fantasyland, you can get a lot of rides under your belt in other lands, during both EMH and RD.

I would definitely get a FP if possible. I have never done RD, but I have been able to get on pre-RD after an early ADR. The crowds come quick and the wait time goes up. Not sure how accurate it is.
We have had good luck at the end of the night before. I found the wait times to be inflated.

Thanks! I do have a fast pass for noon, but my son is 38" so he can't do the other big rides so I thought it would fun to do it twice. If it works out we will do it twice, if not, no big deal :)

Recently returned and I had 4 FP+'s for the mine train over the course of our trip. Rode it both during the day and at night and eventually gave up on it. I switched my last FP+ to splash mountain. My kids (son,14 and daughter,10) were not into it. My wife and I, the same. Is it a good and new additions, sure. But, it is a short and pretty bland ride. Barnstormer +, and that is due to the theme work, not the intensity of the ride. It gets a lot of hype, but there are better things to wait for. Give it a try, you may like it, but the excitement wore off. After the first ride, we were all like "that is it" ?

FP+ On our EMH morning we dis PP, IASW, Pooh, Barnstormer, Teacups, and Dumbo. We went right away at 9 to Pete's to meet the characters since my youngest really wanted to meet Daisy and it was his birthday. We had a snack in the tent, rode the Sppedway and then had a 9:30 return for 7DMT.

Were you by any chance in the front seats? Last year, my family of five were seated in the front rows and were absolutely taken back by how BORING the ride was! We had ridden it several times already up the that point and had sat in various locations on the train. However, the front was terrible! We collectively approached a CM and politely complained. When she asked if we wanted to re-ride in in the back, we gladly accepted. And boy! were we surprised! We couldn't believe how different the experience was! In fact, after that we asked for the back seat on several other coasters.

We rode in front, middle, and back. I agree, being in the front on 7DMT and BTMRR is not the same as being further back. I agree though, if you only ride once, and were in the front, you would really be disappointed. The ride is fine, just nothing to write home about. After we had our first 3 rides, we were like "been there, done that" and went on to others we knew we liked more. I am sure someone was very happy to find our mid-day FP+ available when we gave it up :-)
