SDFP: CHANGES COMING!! Beware the 7th of June?!

Okay, I've read the main page and as much as I can, and didn't find the answer to this question. Sorry if it is buried somewhere. I know I can borrow a friend's magic bands (they have their own MDE), and use those for SDFP. But, can I use my sister's from our trip last year-she is listed on my MDE (not linked-I "manage" her), because she is not going this year. So, she is listed under my MDE, but she isn't going with us. And, if so, do I have to use her magic band, or could I use her ticket card instead for SDFP? Thanks!

Keep in mind you can tap Ctrl F keys to search the first page of the thread. If you search "borrow" you'll find what you're looking for.

I know some people have said you can reassign cards without tickets remaining on them, but I've never had luck with this, even with people originally on my MDE.

The MDE isn't going to allow any card to be reassigned - with or without tickets. What you can do is take a card which once had a ticket, but the ticket has been used, and assign that card to a profile on your MDE - as long as no one else has ever assigned that card. Most people would have no reason to do that. It would come in handy if you wanted to reassign an entitlement to a profile that has no MB or card.

Can I get the "cards" at the resort for folks I have on MDE or do I have to wait to get those at MS at DS or at a park ?

If you're talking about cards for resort guests, you'd ask at the front desk of your resort.

To clarify, I am wanting to get the cards that I can use for SDFP. Can I get those at the resort ?

Not sure what you mean. Disney won't just give you a card. You can get a card by buying a park ticket. You can also get cards for people on your resort reservation by asking for them at the front desk. Am I misunderstanding what you're talking about?

I suspect any cards you would get at the resort would be tied to your resort reservation and tickets and Magic Bands - so they would be clones of what you already have, not usable for SFDP.

You're right, of course. Though asking for cards at front desks is a good way to collect a set for future SDFP use.

I guess the only way to get cards to use now would be to buy them on eBay or borrow them from family members who are not coming along. Otherwise MagicBands are the only option.

Just trying to make sure I understand. So generally what you're talking about doing there are people with the party cards/tickets that have been transferred? How else would you have a card with a ticket used that no one had been assigned? If they never used it with MDE? So I couldn't do it with any that have ever been used on MDE to make FPP's (even if someone else's)? This would be consistent with what I've found but I'm still confused on which ones "could" be reassigned. (Unless it's none but then I'm confused by the "which once had a ticket" part). Thanks!

You might have bought a ticket, never linked it to your MDE, but used the ticket at the parks. So that card is now "empty" though it "once had a ticket." You can still link that empty card to your MDE. There are few scenarios that this works with. (Such as if you have AP vouchers linked to your MDE - but no way to access the vouchers for GLFP - because the vouchers themselves aren't RFID.)

But maybe what you're asking about is the reassigning. If you look under MagicBands and Cards, you won't see an option to reassign, because you can't reassign MBs or cards. It you go on the Tickets and Reservations page, you'll see the option to reassign next to any ticket that hasn't yet been used. So if you have Halloween Party tickets on your MDE - you'll see the option to reassign them. (But only if you manage the profiles that have those tickets. Only the manager can reassign.) If you reassigned "Joe's" ticket, the entitlement would go to "Jill" - and would be accessed by any of Jill's MBs or cards. But the card that the Halloween party was originally received on will remain forever linked to Joe. If you reassign the ticket, Joe's original card is now "empty."

Empty cards can be used for SDFP, as well as used to access GLFP on a profile with a voucher. Does that make sense?

I was asking about the first, not the reassigning (although I was clarifying that I couldn't reassign a used card - like I knew you couldn't reassign a used MB). So thanks for that!

So in trying to make sure I understand the first part - I have a used Waterpark card (from just a one day TL ticket) and a card that was used just as a DQ admission. I have used both of these for SDFP's (so again, I knew you could do that), but what you're saying is that I could assign (not reassign) these cards to someone in my MDE. The only real advantage to this (based on my current life scenario!) would be that I could see those SDFP's appear in my MDE, which I can't now. But if I'd bought an AP or a ticket but hadn't yet picked one up, assigning one of these cards would give me a way to access FPP's in advance of actually getting the tickets or activating the AP's? So it probably makes sense to keep these tickets until then?

Right, if those cards have never been linked to a profile, you might as well experiment with linking them to a couple of phantoms. If you end up getting a "will call" AP or ticket, you could assign it to one of the phantoms. Then, as you say, you can use one of the cards to access GLFP. You can always reassign the unused AP to its proper profile later. Let us know how it all looks if you link them - and if you can see SDFP on those phantom profiles.

Question that came up on another board:
If you purchased a MVMCP ticket and an unused 5 day ticket, both linked to the same profile, and wanted to go to MK in the AM as well as the party and make FP for both, how can this happen?

I assumed if you reassigned the MVMCP ticket to a phantom, you could make another set of fast passes, but this conversation makes me think the MVMCP ticket would still linked to the old profile, so how could you access them?

That's the perfect example of needing an "empty card."

You're right - if you reassigned an MVMCP entitlement to a phantom, you would have no way to access the entitlement. Because the original card would remain linked to the first profile.

So you'd need to link a card (like the "empty" cards Marcie described) or a MagicBand to the phantom.

The section on the first page in red text describes that situation in more detail.

I was going to ask for cards for phantom family members which were on MDE, which DO NOT have tickets. I wanted to use those cards for SDFP. Can I ?

Also, I purchased Memory Maker last year and I have the card which I was sent. It has a code, QR, etc; just like a card with no ticket associated. Will that card work to get SDFP ?

Disney won't give you cards unless you're buying a ticket or on a resort reservation.

A Photopass card won't work.

Things will work out better if you don't bother with SDFP.

I wonder if you called IT and say you mistakenly posted the ticket to the wrong account? Seems strange that Disney would allow you to reassign tickets but provide no access to them at the entrance...

Disney is even stricter now that they have these new cards with like 35 different designs. I had a friend visit who is a big scrapbooker and bought her a 2 day ticket and got a Mission Space themed one. She wanted to get a MK one of some type for that day (we spent one day each at EP and MK) so we tried several times at Guest Services and they were adamant that they couldn't give out extra cards because then people would feel they had to collect the entire set. It surprised me because I've never had trouble getting extras for my AP (just to keep a card in each car, etc.). We finally had to go to GS when we were at DS and they told us they could replace it if she had "lost" the card (this was said with a wink) and had the original receipt. So we did that and she finally ended up with two (incidentally, they also swore to us that the first card would be cancelled and she would not be able to use it and this was not the case - she could then use either interchangeably, just like I can with my AP cards). But there's no way they would give out cards just if you asked, based on my experience at least!

When you mention cards for a resort reservations - I haven't stayed on-site since well before FPP so I'm curious. If you have a RO stay, you can't use your room card for SDFP, can you? You don't even get a room card any more, do you, unless you specifically request one? If you do, is it the same type card as they use for the ticketing? I'm guessing there wouldn't be an advantage to this since you could do the same thing with the provided MB's?

As you say, you an always call Disney. They do have the power to do many things that a guest can't - including moving a card or MagicBand.

They'd like every guest to have a MagicBand, so access will never be a problem. Most guests don't even understand the reassigning function - and those who understand usually have MagicBands and cards. You could always go to guest services and tell them that you've reassigned to a person who has no card or MB - and they'll give you a card because they'll be able to see the ticket entitlement on the person's MDE profile. They could/would ask to see ID - so going to a window to ask for a card for a phantom isn't a great idea.
