I'm so exicted to find this forum! I have a million questions. We just booked our first DisneyCruise, It's the 7 night Western and we have 13 people going.

I have 2 kids who will be 7 and 9 when we sail. We want to scuba dive but all the tour excursions say they must be at least 12 years of age.

Does anyone know of any private captains who will let the kids and us dive if we all are certified? We are looking to dive at the Cayman Wall and some ship wrecks in Cozumel, or anywhere else you may suggest.

If so can you please give me some details.

Thank you ahead of time!

Debbi,

What agency has certifications for 7 and 9 year olds? I doubt you will find many dive op's that will take kids this young but I may be incorrect.

I have dove with Bob Soto's in Cayman and they are very good and are close to the dock.

We are diving with abanks in grand Caymen. My 11 yo is doing the resort coarse and they are going to talk to my 9 almost 10 yo
to see if they think hes ready and if so he will do a resort coarse too! The age limit is 10 for a resort, I really don't think they will take them any younger. We will just be doing a shallow shore dive with our kids AND instructors. My husband and I are bothe certified. You can look for a bubble maker program.

Have you heard of Snuba? It allows much younger people to dive because there are no tanks. Breathing is done through a regulator, but the tank is on the surface on a float. The dive is very shallow (20 feet) and there is a short (45 minute?) course before you dive, but it is a way to take kids and others who are not certified on a dive. I know there is a Snuba company out of St. Thomas, and DH says there is one in Key West (a friend of his has been snuba'ing in KW).

I don't really know how to tell you to find the companies that do snuba, but I would guess some internet searching would get you there.

I just did some research into Snuba, and found one outfit in KW that does it - http://www.furycat.com/snuba.htm. They also operate in Cozumel, but their site does not mention Snuba there. On Cayman, Red Sail (www.redsailcayman.com) has a similar program for kids - I can't remember what they call it...sorry.

Good luck.

I would love to know how your kids could be certified at such a young age. When my husband and I got certified in 1992, they would only kid a junior certification to someone 13 yrs old or older.

My daughter is 6, and although she loves to snorkel (which we encourage) I couldn't imagine her being ready for scuba diving. Just the thought of getting her to equalize would be difficult.

Wow, if your kids can do it, I am very impressed.
