Screw In the Light Bulb-All New x 13 4/25!!

First, I'm sorry you had so many medical troubles roll your way. I hope everything is on the mend.

What a great day y'all were having at MK! I love how seriously Maddie takes her meet & greets.

I was really surprised to see that the parade went on in the rain. I wouldn't think they would do that.

And I love that y'all made the best of the rainy afternoon by slowing down and doing some different things. I don't think I even knew about that glass blower guy. That's neat!

We quickly made our way to one of the entrances of the shop, comfortable and dry beneath the awning, and were treated to one of the most fun versions of the parade that we’ve ever seen.
Well played. Staying dry and still enjoying the parade...

Unlike the lady in pink with the stroller in the background of some of your pictures. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

But at least the stroller is covered so the kid will stay dry. Someone in that family has to, I guess.

Some of the dancers and characters seemed downright miserable-and who can blame them-but most seemed to be embracing the situation and quite literally dancing in the rain. Mr. Smee seemed to be having the time of his life stomping in puddles and splashing the brave few who lined the street.
Seems like a Smee like thing to do. All while Captain Hook is likely cowering from the rain somewhere.

She was overjoyed that so many princesses and princess shouted “Hi princess Belle!” when they saw her.
And it seems that they do a very good job about finding kids who aren't just in the front row to interact with. I'm glad that they spotted her.

Looking back this was one of my favorite afternoons of the trip.
It definitely looks like it worked out well. You'll always remember "that time it poured during the afternoon parade." :thumbsup2

(well, we shared mine because Maddie likes to save her M&Ms for later.
Well played, Maddie. Well played. :thumbsup2

You know what (was) is right near the Confectionary and indoors? Princesses, that’s what.
When Maddie is around, the princesses are never far away. :lmao:

Oh goodness you hit quite the whammy of pain! I'm so sorry and so glad you are feeling better now!

Seriously why are they keeping the Frozen stuff in such short supply?! I mean they're not making any money off the people re-selling things for insane mark-ups so I'd think they'd be pumping the stuff out to capitalize on it! :confused3

Most of all, I need to know why I can not have an Olaf stuffed animal.

I LOVE the princess silhouette shirts! It's looking like our next trip so far is gonna be January 2015 and my sister and I will most likely be placing an order!

I was thinking of Maddie on our shared birthday! Happy belated birthday to the princess! I don't know where time goes either!

Yay! So glad she got to play the Beast! She looks adorable & I'm especially glad that you were able to experience other MK attractions and not just set a world record of ETWB experiences. :rotfl2:

Aw what an AMAZING meet and greet with Chip and Dale! Maddie's line is precious! And yay for more amazing meets ! Maddie's face in the pictures really shows how much fun she was having!

Wow I can't believe the parade went on in all that rain! I think the only thing you can do at that point is embrace it and dance :rotfl2:

I think that sounds like a great memory! That one couple in the parade looked like they were having a blast!

We've never gone in to see the glassblower but I would love to sometime! We have a glassblowing studio here and we went to one of their open houses once--it's so amazing to watch them create things!

I love the picture of Princess Maddie in front of all tiaras--so perfect!! I predict a purchase there on some future visit! :thumbsup2

Whoa!!! The Rain Parade is phenomenal!!! I can’t even imagine having to perform in that, but how awesome to see it!

You also made good use of your rain time - I mean, you likely saw some things you never would have sought out had you been hurrying off to Space Mountain or something. ;) I love that the Dapper Dans were singing inside! And the glass blower is really cool! I love that you were able to realize it at the time and truly enjoy it. So great!

I have never seen the glass blower, but his demonstration sounds really cool. There are some definite advantages to a rainy day.

I am shocked that the parade went on in all that rain. I guess it must have started pouring after they started. Kind of cool to see it in the rain.

Glad you enjoyed your rainy afternoon!

AARRRGGGHH I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS DURING A HUGE RAINSTORM DURING A PARADE!!!

Like, I’ve seen rainy day cavalcade when they have enough time to make the call backstage, and I’ve seen it a little bit rainy, and then I’ve seen pictures of mid parade route the clouds just open up and it starts insanely storming and Naveen was attempting to cover both him & tiana with his cape. Like, what do you do in that situation?!?! Specifically the poor dancers!?!?! Bahaha glad you got to experience something like that!!

Looks like despite the rain slightly throwing a wrench in your plans it was a nice break and a nice bit of the afternoon, sometimes those things and moments really are the best!

So the show goes on....in the RAIN!! Love it!!! I honestly never thought about it, but guess they can't just stop mid-show.

Was the cake pop a snack credit?? Just curious. Looks good.

Hope y'all are staying warm with all this crazy weather!!

Have a good weekend!
Heather:goodvibes

I'm so glad you are back to posting! I love reading about your experiences. I can't believe they did the parade in that downpour! Glad you didn't have to miss out! What do you think about the new parade coming this spring?

That was a unique parade. I've never seen them doing that in the rain like that. I've seen photos of the rainy day cavalcade but not the princesses and characters out. At least Belle had an umbrella. (Which is funny because my DD had a Belle umbrella when she was little.)

At least you were able to have some new experiences that made for a memorable afternoon. :)

Yum, cake pops. I tried my first one last summer and it was so good.

WOW! When you update, you really update

I'm so sorry to hear about the dental problems...never fun. I have said it before and I'll say it again, I would rather go to have a mammogram every six months than go to the dentist. :scared1:

So many pictures to comment on and not enough time.

The interaction with Chip and Dale was just wonderful; I love when you have those kinds of moments.

And the pictures with Aladdin and Jasmine are precious (especially hugging Aladdin).

And love the fairies pictures.

Oh, and lovely job on the Frozen dress. And we did see it (and Saving Mr. Banks).

Don't freak out, but I'm posting 2 weeks in a row...

:faint:

It was about 2:50 so we decided to try to find a spot for the parade.

Don't you know that you have to stake out a curbside spot two hours before the parade starts then stand behind the people who show up just as it starts and stand right in front of you?

oh.

You are those people.

:rolleyes1:

Nevermind!

Maddie didn’t quite understand why we weren’t lined up to see the parade, and I was explaining that the parade just wasn’t going to happen in the rain

And there it is folks.
That moment in time when the child realizes that the parent doesn't know everything after all.

Next up: The child discovers that he/she is smarter than the parents.

As I was apologizing ('cause that's what parents do right?)

::yes::

The music coming from Main Street sounded awfully familiar…

Jimi Hendrix?
Janis Joplin?
CCR?
Lady Gaga?

were treated to one of the most fun versions of the parade that we’ve ever seen.

Oh that's... just awesome.

Mr. Smee seemed to be having the time of his life stomping in puddles and splashing the brave few who lined the street.

:rotfl:

I started pointing down at her when they made eye contact with me. She was overjoyed that so many princesses and princess shouted “Hi princess Belle!” when they saw her.

You sure are working hard to make her feel special.
Good for you.

a CM who said she’d never seen the parade go off in such weather. I take that with a huge grain of salt

Yes. Me too.
I would think that with Florida weather, the parade gets caught in the rain fairly often.

Doesn't make it any less memorable, though.

but we did feel like we’d seen something special that day-it’s one now one of my favorite parade memories.

:thumbsup2

We sprinted across the street entering at Uptown Jewelers (I think) and found ourselves in the middle of an indoor concert.

Always nice to find little hidden gems, right?

We browsed a bit, of course trying on some tiaras

What. No picture of you wearing one?

We happened upon the glass guy-he's a glass blower right?

Looks like it, from the picture.

So what was glowing more brightly.
The molten glass or Maddie? :)
The rain was putting a damper on our plans, but honestly it turned out to be a blessing. We probably never would have taken the time to stop and enjoy the Dans or our pal the glassblower’s demonstration if we hadn’t been rained in. Looking back this was one of my favorite afternoons of the trip.

I'm not surprised. Some of my favorite moments from past trips have been when the unexpected or spontaneous happens.

We ponchoed up

That sounds like a line out of an old western.

"All right you cowpokes. Let's poncho up and round up them heifers!"

 Yes. I'm very familiar with this process.

Later.
"Can I have one of your M&Ms?"
"Daddy! These are mine!"
Any of you who have tried to “save” M&Ms in a backpack in July might have some idea of how successful we were.

Oh dear.

Up Next: Princesses of course!

Of course! Thanks for the update Shantapants! :goodvibes

What a cool parade experience! Last May we grabbed a very last minute spot - literally we were trying to cross the street and a rope was put up in front of us, so we stood there. It had already started to sprinkle and the entire parade went by us, and as soon as it had gone by, they canceled it because it began to downpour. Of course all of the floats and performers were out on Main Street, but they just filed around the parade route without dancing or anything. It was actually the best parade we have seen :)

Well, that was a unique parade experience! I feel a bit sorry for the dancers and characters having to get out in that kind of weather. But, some do look like they were having a good time.

Years and years ago, we saw the glassblower at the Magic Kingdom. I'm glad that you guys were able to watch him work and see his creation.

Whoa, that glass blower looks amazing. I didn't even know that he existed. Add that to the list of to-dos for September!

And holy rain on the parade! I too have seen the Rainy Day Character Cavalcade, but never the full parade in a downpour. I'm also going to guess perhaps the parade had already started when the downpour started?

Fun to take time to really look in the shops, though. And gooey or not, that cake pop looked really good! So glad you were able to get in another update! I have to say, since my girls are 7 and 4, I love your TRs because I get ideas for what they would probably like based on what Maddie likes/does.:)

Thank you! She did love her lego sets, has Jorie had her birthday yet? I'm dying to hear what happens with your MiL.

Jorie's birthday was last week...Valentine's Day actually. Buuuut, whether or not she'll get any Disney Lego sets from my MiL is still up in the air. We got almost two feet of snow here last Thursday, so we decided to move Jorie's birthday party to this coming Friday. So we'll see.... I will definitely let you know, lol. :rotfl2:

Oh my word! I couldn't get over your pics from the parade! I can't believe that they still had it in that pouring rain! :umbrella: I would have been right there with one of those downright miserable characters, I hate getting wet! :rotfl2:

What a fun, unexpected afternoon! To see the Dapper Dans performing inside and then the glass blower, how neat! Looking forward to hearing about the Princesses. princess:

Awww, you're not a grade a jerk for being away a while. It happens. Life gets busy and stuff gets in the way. We're still here. :goodvibes

Oh man! You've definitely had a lot going on. I'm really glad that PT has worked for you.

I can't believe how much Maddie has grown up! Just from the first TR I read!

Haha! Bryan was a suit of armor.

I knew she would be the beast! I would have been praying to the Disney gods too!

Maddie's taking a picture of her food is just priceless. Like "wait.....not yet....."

For the lunch menu at BOG, the braised pork was definitely the winner for me. It was extremely yummy.

Those notes are the best thing ever. If I got something like that back in my amusement park days, I would have been so elated.

If I was in that parade situation, I would have made the most of it too. Just embrace the wetness.

Kids are so funny right? If Joaquin would have stuck his hand up in the air to ask a question, I too would have wondered what on earth he was going to ask. I had that moment of trepidation at Turtle Talk with Crush. :rotfl2:

That really does sound like a fun afternoon! I love memories like that. :)

It ended up being a really nice afternoon!

No. Turned out it wasn't broken too badly so he was able to fix it.

I'm so glad to hear that!

Well of course it was.

I can see it now. pkondz takes Maddie to the mall.
"So, what should we do? Toy Store? Clothing store? Accessories store?"
"Pretzel cart."
"Sounds good. Let's go."

15 minutes later...

"Boy, that was good. So, NOW what do you want to do? Toy store?"
"Pretzel cart."
"Good idea. Let's go."

Repeat ad infinitum, ad nauseam... literally!

Sounds pretty accurate! :rotfl2:

We love the glassblower! I can't imagine a better way to spend time when it's pouring down outside!

I'm shocked that they did the parade! I have seen the "Rainy Day Character Cavalcade," or whatever it's called, but never the actual parade in motion during rain. Had it already started in Frontierland when it opened up, you think? And yeah, that one guy looks like he's not enjoying it at all. It's just water!

You know from my TR that I've been missing for a while, but I just wanted to personally let you know that I'm back and enjoying your family again!:goodvibes

The parade had actually started at Main Street which I thought was even more surprising. I'm guessing that no more than the first few floats could have gotten out before the rain hit.

I'm glad you're back!

WOW!!!! I am in absolute shock that the parade wasn't immediately stopped from that rain, but what a unique experience to see it. So comical (and awesome) to see all the performers just break away like that. It mind of reminds me of the Rainy Day Cavalcade of Characters except this is the real deal.

Aww look, it's my buddies Dan, Dan, Dan, and Dan.

Oh so true Shannon. I find as well that when the plans go awry due to circumstances beyond our control, it brings about so many little gems that become THE memories of a trip. :goodvibes

It was crazy! I've certainly never seen anything like it!

Haha! I thought of you when I posted that pic!

It was such a nice surprising afternoon.

Fun update - so great when you get to stop and "smell the Disney roses" you might not normally do. And I love that they do things like having the Dans perform indoors

That parade looks like fun - can't believe they had it as it looks like it was pouring!

It was really coming down, I could not believe that the parade went on like that!

It was such a nice afternoon, the Dans performance was really special!

First, I'm sorry you had so many medical troubles roll your way. I hope everything is on the mend.

What a great day y'all were having at MK! I love how seriously Maddie takes her meet & greets.

And I love that y'all made the best of the rainy afternoon by slowing down and doing some different things. I don't think I even knew about that glass blower guy. That's neat!

Thanks Amanda. Feeling all better now!

She is 100% serious about characters. :lmao:

Between the glass blower and the parade, it ended up being a really fun afternoon.

Well played. Staying dry and still enjoying the parade...

Unlike the lady in pink with the stroller in the background of some of your pictures. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

But at least the stroller is covered so the kid will stay dry. Someone in that family has to, I guess.

I loved our spot. That lady was brave. It was really really coming down. You know as well as I do that the children must stay dry though. ;)

Seems like a Smee like thing to do. All while Captain Hook is likely cowering from the rain somewhere.

It really does! Hook wasn't having nearly as much fun!

And it seems that they do a very good job about finding kids who aren't just in the front row to interact with. I'm glad that they spotted her.

It definitely looks like it worked out well. You'll always remember "that time it poured during the afternoon parade." :thumbsup2

It was such a fun memory. She loved that the characters all waved and called to her, and I know I won't forget it.

Well played, Maddie. Well played. :thumbsup2

She's no dummy.

When Maddie is around, the princesses are never far away. :lmao:
You got that right!

:confused3

Wow I can't believe the parade went on in all that rain! I think the only thing you can do at that point is embrace it and dance :rotfl2:

I can't get over the lack of Frozen merch. It's so odd isn't it? Maddie let me sleep with Olaf a lot when I was hurt. She thought I needed him.

I hope you had a great birthday Courtney, I thought of you as well.

I'd love to help you out with some shirts, I'd be honored :)

Chip and Dale were a riot. An absolute hoot. We loved them!

I think I'd have to dance as well! What else can you do?

I think that sounds like a great memory! That one couple in the parade looked like they were having a blast!

We've never gone in to see the glassblower but I would love to sometime! We have a glassblowing studio here and we went to one of their open houses once--it's so amazing to watch them create things!

I love the picture of Princess Maddie in front of all tiaras--so perfect!! I predict a purchase there on some future visit! :thumbsup2

The glass blower's work was really fascinating. And the finished products were amazing! I wish we could afford one! :rotfl:

You're probably not off the mark there-we'll likely end up buying one or two.

So great!

It was so cool! I'm so glad we got to see it!

The indoor activities were really a silver lining. We never would have stopped if the sun had been out. I'm so glad we did!

It was really cool to watch. You just don't come across things like that much anymore. I'd forgotten how fun it could be.

It was absolutely pouring, so I was shocked. It was an awesome parade though!

AARRRGGGHH I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS DURING A HUGE RAINSTORM DURING A PARADE!!!

Looks like despite the rain slightly throwing a wrench in your plans it was a nice break and a nice bit of the afternoon, sometimes those things and moments really are the best!

It was so crazy! If I'd been thinking I'd have grabbed the video camera, but of course I didn't. it was hilarious to see how the different characters reacted too. You could tell that they had time to get umbrellas for the princesses, but poor Mickey and the poor dancers were out of luck.

It was so surprising, but a lot of fun to see! I'm guessing they had already sent Mickey out and couldn't just bring him back in!

I think it was, but don't quote me on that. I'm looking forward to trying a few things at the F&G food booths with our snack credits this year!

I'm so glad you are back to posting! I love reading about your experiences. I can't believe they did the parade in that downpour! Glad you didn't have to miss out! What do you think about the new parade coming this spring?

Thank you so very much. That means a lot.

It was crazy! I could not believe that they kept going in that rain!

I think the new parade looks interesting. I like it visually for adults, but I'm interested to see how it comes together and how kids react. Steampunk is not something I thought I'd ever hear to describe a parade costume. :rotfl2:

That was a unique parade. I've never seen them doing that in the rain like that. I've seen photos of the rainy day cavalcade but not the princesses and characters out. At least Belle had an umbrella. (Which is funny because my DD had a Belle umbrella when she was little.)

At least you were able to have some new experiences that made for a memorable afternoon. :)

Yum, cake pops. I tried my first one last summer and it was so good.

I love that Emily had a Belle umbrella. Maddie has had a little Tinkerbell one for years and she just loves it!

It was a fun experience! Certainly something you can never plan for!

I liked the cake pop, but this year I'm determined to try some new things-specifically the bacon cupcake at the F&G food booths!

Banks).

I'm not messing around Kathy! :lmao: I gotta get this thing done eventually!

Chip and Dale were such fun, Maddie will not forget it for a long while.

We finally saw Mr. Banks and LOVED it!

:faint:

Don't you know that you have to stake out a curbside spot two hours before the parade starts then stand behind the people who show up just as it starts and stand right in front of you?

oh.

You are those people.

:rolleyes1:

:rotfl2::rotfl2: We would have stood behind them! I swear!

Nevermind!

Jimi Hendrix?
Janis Joplin?
CCR?
Lady Gaga?

Queen

Oh that's... just awesome.

:rotfl:

The character's reactions were hilarious. It was a really really fun parade.

Yes. Me too.
I would think that with Florida weather, the parade gets caught in the rain fairly often.

Doesn't make it any less memorable, though.

That's what I thought too. Maybe she was new? ;)

[QUOTESo what was glowing more brightly.
The molten glass or Maddie? :)

I'm not surprised. Some of my favorite moments from past trips have been when the unexpected or spontaneous happens.
Probably her mommy.

It just solidified that we need to take more time to smell the WDW roses. We had such a nice afternoon.

That sounds like a line out of an old western.

"All right you cowpokes. Let's poncho up and round up them heifers!"

 Yes. I'm very familiar with this process.

Of course! Thanks for the update Shantapants! :goodvibes

Thanks for reading Ponzihook

What a cool parade experience! Last May we grabbed a very last minute spot - literally we were trying to cross the street and a rope was put up in front of us, so we stood there. Of course all of the floats and performers were out on Main Street, but they just filed around the parade route without dancing or anything. It was actually the best parade we have seen :)

Really? Did they do the whole route? I think this one went all the way to the end, but I'm not sure.

It will certainly remain my favorite parade memory-right up there with the first time Maddie saw it.

The parade was fun! I did feel bad for those who looked miserable, but most looked like they were having a great time.

He was fascinating to watch. I'm so glad that we did.

I think the first float or two must have already been out on the route, but I'm not sure. It was fun to see though!

I hope you'll be able to see the glass blower, he was a lot of fun to watch!

Awe, thanks so much. That means a lot.

Jorie's birthday was last week...Valentine's Day actually. Buuuut, whether or not she'll get any Disney Lego sets from my MiL is still up in the air. Poor Jorie! Was she heartbroken to have her party postponed? I am absolutely on pins and needles to find out if she gets them!

I'm not usually at my best in the rain either. I love seeing the characters that were enjoying it though.

:rotfl2:

Thanks Danielle! I'm feeling much better!

I loved that he was the Suit of Armor! And thank goodness she was the Beast, she was dying to do it!

I'll keep that in mind! I don't think we're doing BoG for lunch this trip, but maybe next time.

The parade was such fun to see!

Oh I was so nervous about what she was going to ask! She's a smart kid, but who knows right?

The One with Some Princesses and More Rain

Our next trip will be upon us in a mere 70 days so I’m going to make a real effort at getting this TR moving more quickly. I can barely remember the details now, I know I can’t handle 2 TRs

Having spent a good deal of time avoiding the rain in the shops of Main Street, we decided to take our chances visiting some princesses at the Town Square Theater. The wait time was posted at 55 minutes, but we’ve waited in that line often enough that we knew it wouldn’t be nearly that long.

As we suspected, we waited much closer to 25 minutes before it was our turn to say hello to some friends.

Rapunzel was first, and whispered to Maddie that the Beast has stinky feet but that he’s a lovely dancer.

When it was time to visit Cinderella, Maddie mentioned that her Fairy Godmother in Training said hello and that she was very much looking forward to dining at her castle.

My girl Drag Queen Aurora was next. She was very impressed that Maddie and been invited to the BBB, and told Maddie that her Aunt Flora makes all of the dresses for the BBB. As we left, she said that she couldn’t wait to see her later at dinner.

When we emerged from visiting royalty (and browsing gift shop ), we were pleased to see that the rain had slowed to a drizzle. Since he’d skipped snack time at the Confectionary, Bryan wanted to stop at the Plaza Ice Cream Shop for a snack. Maddie decided to join him and have a scoop of mint chocolate chip.

Photopass photographers had been scarce the whole trip, so despite the fact that we were wearing ponchos and two-thirds of us were having ice cream I made us stop. These turned out to be some of my favorite PP pics.

I believe the correct caption for these photos is "Photopass? Aint nobody got time for that"

We decided to walk over toward Tiana’s gazebo to see if she and Naveen had resumed meeting now that the rains had slowed so considerably. They had, but the CMs had already closed the line for the 5 o’clock session. She said that we could wait nearby and that she’d slip us in if there was time. While we waited we chatted with a very nice woman from Scotland who was shocked that she’d come all the way to Florida for rainstorms while her hometown was enjoying unseasonably sunny weather.

We didn’t make the cut for the 5 o’clock meet, but Maddie wanted to see them so we became the first people in line for the 6 o’clock set. Maddie needed to use the restroom, so Bry held our place in line. As we started to walk away Maddie slipped and fell. It was a combination of the rain and plastic footwear, but Maddie took it very hard. We sat on a bench while she cried for a few minutes afraid that she’d gotten her dress dirty, would need stitches, etc. (Neither of those things happened by the way.) Once she’d calmed down we agreed that holding hands would be best as we traversed the slippery pavement. Not 10 steps later she almost went down again. This time she was so upset that I carried her the rest of the way to the restrooms.

When we finally met up with Bryan again, changing shoes was our first order of business.

10 minutes before Tiana and Naveen were set to come back out, lightning was spotted. We were told to leave the area, so we ducked into the Christmas Shop. The sun reemerged for a moment, but just as quickly went away as the skies opened up again. We’d not be meeting Tiana any time soon.

Since our dinner reservation was in Fantasyland, we decided that Philharmagic would be the perfect attraction to pass the time before dinner. Always a favorite of ours, it was just what we needed to restore our collective good humor. We got out of the show at 6:40 and it was raining even harder than before. Seemed like a good time to go ahead and check in for our 7:00 ADR.
