We decided against officially volunteering at the marathon (our first trip to DW and our first 1/2), but we want to do some SCREAMIN' somewhere along the route. I went back and read through the original post about this where Kristi was recruiting volunteers, and I came up with a few potential places. My question is...what time should we be there to be sure to be on hand to cheer for lots of our WISH buds?

Possible sites (open to additional suggestions, of course):
Poly (mile 24?)
Entrance to Animal Kingdom
Entrance to MGM (mile 23?)
Grand Floridian

Now, I've got to get my pompoms and cowbell, and I'm good to go!

Hard to say what time to be where, as we will have a pretty good range of WISHers.

I'm thinkign most will be in teh 4 to 7 hour range.

Poly/GF will be around teh 12 mile mark. Did you mean BW instead of Poly?

Taking my pick of loneliest spots, I'd go with AK or MGM, if I got to choose for you. I think That's where I slow down the most. We try for 5 hours, but there are WISHers before and after us fo sure. We'll be ther btwn 3 and a half and 4 hours.

It's kind of random with such varied paces, but you'll be greatly appreciated wherever you show up!!!! Especially, putting asided tiem to cheer during your first trip. That is really awesome of you!

Do I mean BW instead of Poly? Beats me! I'm so DW-challenged at this point as far as directions and locations, etc!! I'm workin' on it, though!

So, another question: Say we decide to be at AK, I'm guessing the route is well-marked, and if we got there soon after they open, we could find a perch to stake out? After doing my first 1/2 on Saturday, I have a hunch I'm not going to be wanting to do any more actual standing on concrete than I have to. Of course, I'll jump up and scream wildly every time I see a WISH shirt.

I've decided this year is going to be a huge learning curve for me, such that I'll really "have" to come back next year when I have somewhat of a clue what's going on!

:goodvibes

I think there will be enough people at AK that you won't have a problem seeing the course, but should still have room to stake a claim. Don't sit too much, that will make getting up hurt (as you're probably learning). IIRC, and I'm usually fuzzy by then, we run through teh bust stop area at AK.

You will have to come back. It's addicting!

BTW, congrats on your first half!!!!!

Yes, you will most definitely be appreciated at any location you choose. I'd vote with Pat on this one, but you have to go with what works best for you and getting around which I understand is the question.

Great that you are wanting to cheer on. The opportunity is awesome and tops off the training all year with us as we play on the weekly thread. Be sure to experience it all and...

Most definitely it will be something that you will just HAVE to do again...

I went to MGM the morning of the Marathon and cheered on a ton of WISHers. I think we got there around 9:30-10:00 am.

I think at Animal Kingdom you run through the parking lot, actually I am almost 100% you do. That's the first spot that I saw my family at last year, and as I was running off my little one tried to run after me crying because I was leaving him. I am hoping to have everyone meet me there again this year.
