I have never in my life scrapbooked, but have always wanted to. I'm getting together with friends tomorrow night (just at one of their houses) and that is the plan. they all scrapbook, already, and I took myself to ac moore earlier and stocked up on a bunch of stuff...I have no idea what it all is, which sounds weird to say. I was pulling sheets of paper and stickers and such willy nilly. I don't understand why the paper feels so thin/flimsy...am I supposed to attach that paper to other stuff, like card stock or the like? it just seems like if you put pictures on that particular paper, they would be too heavy.

am I making sense?

I decided to concentrate on our disney trip from last year, so got lots of disney stuff...even a disney scrapbook...its gorgeous, with tinkerbell on it.

any scrapbooking for dummies sites, or any help anyone here wants to offer...walk me thru a basic list of what all this stuff is/how you use it? I'll have help tomorrow night, thankfully, but would like to make sure I have what I need to get started.

thanks!

Take what you have and don't buy any more until you can try some different tools, etc. and see what you want. It's great that you have a specific project planned already. I'd suggest taking time to observe each of your friends tomorrow night and ask to borrow their tools, try a dot or strip or whatever of their adhesives, and look through their albums for ideas.

When I started, a good friend and neighbor pulled me into it. She let me borrow her tools and introduced me to her creative Memories consultant. If you want to get into it full force, you could search out local scrapbook stores and consultants from Creative Memories, IRW, Close to my Heart, etc. and see who is near you and offering intro to scrapping classes so you can learn the basics.

When you decide what you want to do with it and what you like, then go buy more stuff.

Welcome to an addictiing hobby:goodvibes

Welcome MTEMM over to this scrapbooking board. When I saw your post on the Community board, I knew this is where you'd find some great suggestions. I'm sure there will be some great ideas sent your way. Good luck, and have fun! :thumbsup2

Don't go overboard on patterened paper. Most of my pages are on a cardstock base (LOVE LOVE LOVE Bazzill) and I accent from there with thinner papers. Lines like Basic Gray etc, have thicker patterened pappers, but I don't have much luck finding them except at my LSS. My AC Moore does have some basic gray, but not much.

Do you have an LSS that offers classes? Mine has a Scrapping 101 that's offered every other week. It's a good place to start for basics.

Properly Warned Ye Be... a highly addictive hobby lie ahead! pirate:

Seriously, to start you will need a few basic things that you will always use. A 12 x 12 paper trimmer (basic Fiskars always works great), adhesive (tape runner), fine-tip scissors, corner rounder, black archival journaling pen, craft knife, some cardstock, patterned paper and some stickers if you wish.

Start by using 12 x 12 cardstock as a base for your layout, adding your pictures, paper, stickers etc. onto the cardstock. Your finished layout will then slide into the top of your scrapbook pages if you bought a top loading scrapbook which most of them are).

Your friends will have many ideas and lots of tools to share. Some friends of mine introduced me to the hobby and at first I was very overwhelmed, it helped for me to just look through all of their scrapbooks and I also picked up an idea book that wasn't too advanced. My LSS (local scrapboing store) recommended Sketches by Becky Higgins. This is a great book organized by the number of pictures you are going to use on layout. I used this often in the begining and still find it to be a great resource.

As mentioned it was helpful to attend a basic scrapbooking class at the LSS.

Good luck and hopefully we will hear more from you on the scrapping board!

Welcome!!!!

BTW LSS = local scrap store.

we have some galleries here for you to look at, just look at the top of this forum, we have paper and digital layouts. And there is a website called www.twopeasinabucket.com or 2peas as we call it. There are some great layouts there too. Just click on peanut gallery and go from there, they have categories for different things.

I would start with a specific theme. I started when we took our first Disney trip. Don't buy to much at first, or that can get overwhelming too. I use cardstock as my base and add layers, patterned paper, pictures and a few embellishments. Personally I don't cut my pictures into odd shapes, I just crop them down to focus on the people in the pics.
I agree with going2disney's list of basic tools. This is a good start.

Let us know if you have anymore questions!

I want to second looking at Becky Higgins sketches. She has a column in Creating Keepsakes magazine, and the sketches have been published in two books you can get from Amazon if you like them. But some of the sketches are on the CK website.

I think they are really helpful for figuring out ideas, where to begin, how to arrange things. She tends to be a more simpler scrapbooker than what you normally see in the magazines.

Here is another website full of other sketch sites
