I'm in the middle of my disney honeymoon album (only 2 years late) and am doing a beach page. I would like to make a "sand" border at the bottom of the page but just can't figure out how. Any ideas or pictures?

I took sand colored paper and tore pieces to make the border. Sorry, no pictures.

I watch scrapbooking on the DIY network TV Channel and they showed this the other night...
To make sand, use a 2 sided tape safe for scrapbooks and then have a trey of sand. Peel away one side of the tape and attache it to your page then peel away the other side of the tape and lay it in the sand...the sand really sticks to it and Voila...you have a beach scene or you can also cut out letters with the tape and dip each into the sand and have sand letters. They always post how to on their website incase you miss a show...

Let me know how it works.

Have you thought about using the left over pieces or pictures you don't plan on using making little squares with the sand part of the pictures and making a moasic type bottom?

I was thinking of the paper unfortunately I only have bright colors instead of neutral colors. When I thought of it yesterday, everything had already closed. It amazes me that no matter how much stuff you have, you still never have everything you need! I love the real sand idea. Maybe I'll go raid my niece and nephews' sandbox...

I would be cautious about using real sand. That stuff cuts like glass and if it comes off and gets on your photos it could be a real disaster.

To add to the paper tarring idea. Use chalk on the torn edges to give the sand dimension.

I made some sand-looking nuggets for a beach page that I scraplifted straight from a Creating Keepsakes issue. I tore tan cardstock, chalked the edges a darker brown, then applied a pop dot so I could tuck shells, sand dollars and star fish (bought at a craft store) in between.

It is in the June 2002 issue, page 61. I don't know if you can pull it up on the web site.

I thought Spinning's idea was cool.

My suggestion is the same as others-- just tear paper and layer them, chalking to add more dimension. If you wanted to use real sand, a safe way to do that would be to either use the little envelopes with a window in them or make a shaker box. That would look pretty cool. You could make several and make a border out of them. You could even add small sea shells and stuff to the sand. Michaels sells tiny dried sea horses and sand dollars that would work beautifully.

There is also a nice paper which is made to look like sand. Not as authentic as real sand, but it's easy to use and looks good. I just cut mine as a shore line and used blue for the background as the ocean. Sorry I don't know who makes the paper, but if you have a good size LSS near you I'm sure they stock it.
