Scored a Free Hotel Room!!

For those of you that travel often, this may not be a big deal, but it was to me!! I signed up for all of the hotel rewards programs a while back, but have never had enough points to matter. I recently went on a business trip (to the beach! ) and the points were just loaded on my account. I was able to get a FREE night on our trip down to Disney in June! I have to pay the taxes ($15) but that's it - and it includes breakfast!! Because we are getting it free, we opted for a suite with a couch so my darling children do not have to share a bed with anyone!

I am so excited I just had to share!!

Like Disney, I'm addicted to hotel points too! I usually stay at Holiday Inn hotels for business because the points don't expire and if you accumulate enough over a year, you qualify to be a Platinum with their program and you get a 50% uplift on those points! It has lead to many family free stays for various vacations including the 2 nights prior to our upcoming Disney Cruise in November!

If you want to rack up points, try staying with just one or two hotel loyalty programs at the most. Diluting points between multiple hotel chains only makes it tougher.

Also, getting a credit card that earns hotel points helps. For example, I have a Hilton HHonors Amex that gives me 6 points per dollar or 9 points per dollar on Hilton purchases. A single weeklong stay at a Hilton can earn as much as 40000-50000 points during bonus promotions. We are planning a trip to Tahiti next year using nothing but Hilton HHonors points (I've accrued over 700000 points in less than a year).

Good advice. We have tried to focus our stays to 2 brands, and that did the trick. We don't stay at hotels often, so that's why it took a while to earn enough. Hilton HHonors is actually the one that we are getting the free room from!
