Scooters in the rain.

Hi all. Due to some ulcer wounds I have to rent a scooter to get around for our upcoming trip. The week coming up has quite a bit of rain showers here and there. How do these scooters operate in the rain if I get caught in a down pour?

Will the rain damage the scooter? What is the possibility of me skidding with the scooter? Sorry if these are stupid questions. I am just so nervous about renting the scooter. I have a big fear of it dieing on me in the middle of a park and not knowing what to do with it.

The scooters run very well in the rain. The company that you rent from usually give you a shower cap type cover to put over the electronic parts on the steering handles. Other than that they are able to get wet. I would bring a towel in a plastic bag to wipe down the scooter seat. Another thing I found out that the scooters fold up. You pull the steering mechanism toward the seat and then put the shower cap on the electronic parts then fold the back of the seat down over the steering and the seat. It helps keep the seat a little drier. Also if you have any plastic ponchos, use that to cover you and the scooter when driving it or when you leave the scooter. I have never had a problem with skidding. Have fun!

AS an added thought with using the ponchos to cover it.

When I travel I have gotten some of the big paper binder clips, they are designed to hold large amounts of paper together. they are perfect for holding a curtain in a hotel room closed that just dosn't quite close, or clamping a poncho to a scooter! Especially if its a little windy and could blow the ponchos off when you are not there!

I always have a few in my suitcase and they have come in very handy!

I always keep a couple of the cheap hotel shower caps handy, you must cover the controls, do that if it even looks like rain. I have done the poncho over me and scooter as well, looks real cute LOL. Try not to drive through puddles as it can get water into areas beneath that would rather stay dry. I have never had any skidding problems but don't go full throttle either.

Just to reinterate - it is important to keep the controls dry.
If they get wet, they can misfunction or be permanently damaged. There have been posts in the past from people who got the controls wet and the ECV either stopped working entirely or started doing strange things.

As was already posted, you should slow down if it is raining or wet. You won't necessarily skid, but you won't have as good of traction and may take longer to stop. That can be especially a problem on hills, either going up or down. It can also be a problem on surfaces that are slippery when wet - one place I know that gets slippery is the walkway between the Electric Umbrella restaurant and the Mouse Gears shop. It is a roofed area, so no one expects it to be wet, but a lot of water gets on the surface there because of people walking there out of the rain and dripping from umbrellas and ponchos.
There are a lot of areas that can get puddles that don't look as deep as they are. So, be careful going thru puddles to avoid too much splash.

Also,

beware of the fountain at Epcot.

Last trip, the wind was blowing spray from the main fountains outside Mouse Gears, right across the walkway.

Maybe not quite as wet as a Florida 'carwash' rainstorm, but wet enough to cause problems!

Who knew, Epcot has a water hazzard!
