We are trying to get my 79 year old grandma to come on our September trip to take her great granddaugther to Disney. She will turn 80 years old on the trip. We want the cheapest scooter rental for my grandparents and the best service.

I would suggest going over to the disABILITIES Forum. One of the first threads is the disABILITIES FAQs. On Post #2 we have a lot of information for people with mobility and/or stamina situations, including fairly detailed information about both on- and off-site rentals of ECVs and wheelchairs. To get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs from here just click on the link in my signature.

Do not depend on the parks to have one avaoilable or fully charged. After a couple disappointments, we began renting from a private company who delivered driectly to our hotel. The scooters were more comfortable, had better amenities and pretty much cost the same. I haven't rented one in a while so definitely go with who the disabilities board says is best.

Apple scooters has great service, were the lowest price last year when I traveled, and if you need any service or have a problem, they are 'Johnny on the spot'. I was very pleased with their scooters and service.

First I second what Chesire says. All the info you need can be found there. I would definitely suggest renting from offsite so she can have it wherever you go. Esp if you are stayng onsite. The distance from your room to the bus stop can be very very far!

I will second Apple Scooters. I rented from them last year and they were awesome. We had started our stay at Universal for a couple days, then moved over to Disney. We could not fit the scooter in our rental car along with our luggage, so Apple picked the scooter up at our Universal hotel and took it to the Beach Club for us! Great service, great price. One thing I will recommend, is bring a small towel to put on the seat during use...the vinyl seat can get hot! and make your rear/thighs sweaty ...the towel helps a lot, lol!

We have typically rented from Walker Mobility for my mom and have been very pleased with both their prices and service.

Not that you have to answer it here but just something to think about - In regards to a scooter vs. a wheelchair, have your grandparents ever used them before in a crowded place like WDW? The reason I ask is that my mom has stopped using a scooter in WDW and we now use a manual wheelchair. The reason being that it can be difficult to use a scooter in WDW because many people aren't as aware as they should be of scooters around them. People just stop or kids dart out from nowhere making it somewhat unnerving for some people to utilize a scooter in the park. Since my mom isn't with us all of the time and she is ok with just sitting and people watching while we do some activities, the manual wheelchair makes it a more cost-effective and stres releaving option for us.

When we went down we rented one from one of our local companies and paid a fraction of the cost that we would have if we had rented down there. There were no additional fees for it on the airplane.

I"ve rented from 3 different companies. Apple is the most economical and has the best service. Their scooters are great. I stay offsite and they are so easy to take apart to load in the car.

We rented from Walker Mobility for my mom. They were wonderful. It was delivered to our hotel, was waiting and ready for us and then we just returned it to the hotels luggage service and that was it.

I have rented 2-3 times a year from Walker Mobility for about ten years. They have delivered to our WDW hotel, and it is always waiting for me when I arrive. It costs a lot less to rent from Walker than to rent one at a Disney park.

We rented from Walker for my Mom - she was so worried about the battery life, and not once over a 7 day trip did the battery level drop below 1/2. We had to run to keep up with her, she loved it! :rotfl2:

We used it on Disney transportation, so we never had to worry about taking it apart - so I can't say anything about that aspect.

I would definitely suggest NOT getting the sunscreen/guard attachment - they are HORRIBLE indoors - like in gift shops, or indoor attractions - they get caught on everything.

Walker provides a cover for the control panel just in case it rains.

I would also suggest taking along a lanyard for the key, so that way they can't get OFF the scooter and leave the key in place - that way it is always with them.
