I need some advice, fellow DISers!

Should I make a PS at Sci-Fi? Usually, we grab lunch at Pizza Planet, but I am trying to do some different things this trip and try some things we haven't tried before. And hello, a PB&J milkshake? We have to at least try it!

I had a glance at the menu over at allears.net and it looks pretty good, but I can't help but remember the many poor reviews this place has received. It's just me and my DH, btw....we both love food and wouldn't mind sharing appetizers or something to keep the cost down.

Should we just make a PS for dessert? Do they have PB&J milkshakes anywhere else? Advice, please!!

I just made my lunch PS this week. I LOVE Sci-Fi. Just DBF and I on this trip and he has never been to Sci-Fi so I'm excited to take him. We are going to use our VKL vouchers and share one so that it will only cost us $31, plus any additional tip that we may want to leave, and we'll get to try an appetizer, entree, and a dessert. I would definitely recommend going. They have some unique and yummy stuff :)

Love this restaurant - we go every time we visit WDW. (I recommend the BBQ Chicken sandwich! Yum!)

Yes, Sci Fi is a definite favorite for us as well. Admittedly, the food is pretty standard burger fare (compared to other selections at WDW), but we LOOOVE the atmospher. So uniquely Disney, and unavailable elsewhere that we always go and just enjoy the ambience and the glowing ice cubes!

Surly -

I'd hate to be the one critic in the bunch, but I concur with the negative comments people have made in the past. We essentially paid sit down costs for counter service quality food.

The atmosphere is great, no question. The Unofficial WDW guide has generally suggested you go there for the atmosphere and order desserts to keep costs minimal, then spend your food money elsewhere. That has always struck me as being the best advice for handling SciFi. But others seem to love it, so perhaps they have improved their fare over the last 5 years?

Best of luck!

Sci-Fi lunch is a tradition with our family. The kids love it and the burgers are good! I always have a root beer float and it's delicious. BTW our dd had her birthday button on and they brought her out a free sundae parfait and made a big deal announcing her birthday and singing to her. It's a fun place

Oh, guys, thanks so much for replying!

I am such a fool, though. I mixed up Sci-Fi with the 50s Prime Time Cafe. THAT's the place with the PB&J milkshake.

So my question becomes, is 50s Prime-Time worth it? Perhaps I should try both?

at 50's they do role playing. There to act like your momand be rude. If you like that go for it. I have never ate there so i can not give you much advice in the food department.

I ate at a place like this once in Chicago (cannot remember the name), and it was really fun. It was a 50s diner-type thing too, come to think of it. I bet I would like that sort of thing, and another huge plus is that we haven't done it at WDW before. I don't want to get stuck in the routine of eating at all the same places (Pizza Planet, LOL!) each time we go.

So, Sci-Fi is the one where you eat in the car booths?

Ed Debevicks. I use to live in Chicago and worked half a block away and my friends and I would go there Saturday night and harass them.:p

Yes, Sci Fi is the one where you sit in cars, facing a drive in movie. Its heavily themed, kinda dark, and pretty cool. Food is so-so, but often worth it for the A/C =)

50's PT is where you sit in a 1950's kitchen and Aunt or Cousin will be your waiter, they interact with you, and it's alot of fun (depending on which waiter you get). We have not had playful waitresses the last two times we went, but its still a fun environment and you can watch the other waiters that ARE into it. The food here is Really REally good, we have always been blown away by how good it is. Meal portions are HUGE and easily split, which is what we do and still have trouble finishing it.

I would highly recommend a PS for either place, and not just hoping to get in... they are pretty popular and often hard to walk into. Have fun deciding!

That was it!!!!

I'm a definite "yes" on Prime Time. HAve to mull Sci-Fi over with DH. :D

Not to rain on the parade (especially a Disney Parade!!), I can't say I have had as positive experience at SciFi. I found the service to be slow. The "movie" to be somewhat dull and repeats frequently. The food was ok, but nothing special. Pretty much typical burgers, nachos and the like.

It might be a decent place for lunch but I know I won't go out of my way to eat their again. I would give it a C+. The "plus" is for the unique atmosphere.

I too love the PB&J shake and didn't have an opportunity for a PS at 50's on this last trip in July. Alas, not to worry. I made a quick stop at the Tune-In Lounge next door during a rain storm and ordered one there. You can get them to go at the Tune-In Lounge also. It was a great way to pass the time during the rain.

Thank you so much for this tip!

I dreamed about the PB&J milkshake last night.:o

I don't have any advice but I wanted to say I love your signature!! Eddie Izzard is hilarious!:teeth: Do you have a flag??:p

I honestly dont know why people knock the Sci-Fi. It's my absolute favorite WDW diningspot.

The atmosphere is FUN. The service is the BEST (even better than the California grill). The rueben sandwiches are GREAT!

And everytime I went they were filled to capacity, so Lots of people think the same as me.

It's a MUST stop everytime I go to MGM.

:earsboy:

We had lunch there in May. I am indifferent to this place because of the food quality (IMO). It was average food on the expensive side but a great atmosphere. We'd go back for the atmosphere, alone. Oh, and I did enjoy the milkshake which DH and I shared. I just didn't like what they charged for mediocre food.

DH & I had a late lunch there in May 2003; no PS & only ~ a 15 minute wait for a "car". We split a very yummy salad with mixed greens, honey glazed walnuts, etc. & also split some type of turkey sandwich that was very good.
