Sci-Fi Woes

No flag, no country, you can't have one! That's the rules that I've....just made up.

:D

We ate in the SCi FI Diner in October. It was ok but we probably will try somewhere else next time.

I had a PB&J milkshake in the bar next door to 50s Prime Time Cafe and it was fantastic.

We've eaten at Sci-Fi at least once during each of our trips to WDW. I absolutely love it, and aside from getting a broken speaker once, we haven't had any problems.

The menu has changed over the years and I still dream of the absolutely huge hot dog they used to serve (half-pound!) I'm a sucker for a good hot dog and this was one of the best I've ever had outside of a Major League ballpark. It was most likely just terrible for your health, but boy, was it good!

We eat at Sci-Fi or Prime Time and enjoy both. :)
I think the food is better at Prime Time. But am not complaining about what I have ordered at Sci-Fi.
I think the selection is a little better at Prime Time too.
The Smores at Prime Time are to die for! :hyper: :cloud9:

We've never been to Sci-Fi but I'm thinking about trying it when we go in October. What kind of movies do they show?

It is the same film clips and ads looped repeatedly.
I would guess it lasts an hour -- maybe more.
It would be better if they looped it a little longer.....
Mostly it is just cheesy sci-fi flick ads.
The diamond, IMHO, is a Disney cartoon classic you may not see anywhere else -- Mission to Mars, or some title like that. And a clip of WALT :Pinkbounc with a robot.
There is also a cartoon about a cat going to Mars, with a There's No Place Like Home moral.

I have had fun at both. At Sci Fi I would say go for lunch and have a sandwich or burger. Lunch is best for sci fi.
I will say that I like Prime Time better. I have had more fun there. The food is ok. I don't think either one has GREAT food but I had fun and it was ok food so that made it a fun experience for me.
I will say that you really should try both. Go eat at one and have sweets at the other. Have fun:)

the food was ok but imo expensive( paid as much as a full meal in other disney rests. and got 1 soup and1 burger and fires, ouch), the atmosphere cute but the things we really hated were waiting forever in off season with a ps(45 mins) when the place was 1/2 empty ( couldn't tell that till we got in or probably would have left)

and

being seated ( hub.and I) with a family of 4 which meant absolutely no privacy. if the place had been crowded i could have understood but there were lots of empty cars. if need be they could have seated us in the back of another car and another couple in the front. it was really annoying and we felt weird the whole time, like we were eavesdropping on some stranger's conversations. it was worse than Biergarden or someplace cause there is not as much distance as a whole table between you and the people in front of you. then to make matters worse they waited and took our orders all together and waited to bring our" entrees" until "after" the other family got theirs which was also "after" they first ate their appes. hello! we were hungry and didn't feel like watching them eat while waiting for a hamburger and bowl of soup! we were there almost 2 hrs total! wouldn't go again, once was to try it , may be go on a rainy day when you have nothing else to do ( ha ha)

I ate at Sci Fi once. It was really fun even if the food was mediocre:bounce: :Pinkbounc

P.S. Just for you theSurlyMermaid... I'll have the chicken!!
Gotta love Eddie ::yes::

You don't know if you will like it until you try it.

We hit Sci Fi for the first time last month. I was really uncertain due to the negative posts I had read on here about it AND my parents/two brothers ate there last August and hated it.

We decided to try it, at least the kids would probably like it for the atmosphere.

It wound up being one of our favorite trip experiences. The CM who seated us was fun, asking our kids all kinds of questions as we went in to our car.
The server we had, Suk Hei, was one of the best server's we have had ever.
I was aprehensive about the food, but it was really good. I had the Popcorn chowder, and aside from being shocked that it really had popcorn on it, it was very good. I had the catfish dinner as well, again very good. My DH had the chili and he raved about it.
Suk Hei brought out a free birthday sundae for DS, had him stand on the seat and had everyone wish him a happy birthday.
It was just a lot of fun.

50's Prime Time, same thing. We have eaten there three years in a row and always have a great time. Good food and the servers are fun.

After showing this thread at DH, I let him make the final call. Unbelievably, our lunch and dinner slots are almost completely filled for our upcoming trip, so it really came down to one or the other.

It took DH all of two seconds to decide on Prime Time. :D After a quick visit to the menu over at Allears, it was confirmed for him.

I guess we'll have to make another trip to try Sci-Fi, but I am still definitely curious about it.

If you're going to eat two sitdown meals at MGM, these are the two places I'd recommend, partly for the atmosphere but we've always enjoyed the food too. But one warning for each.

Sci-Fi is pricey. You'll end up spending easily twice as much as at Pizza Planet.

At 50's Prime-Time, if you go to the restrooms and turn the wrong way when you come out, you end up at Hollywood & Vine! (The two restaurants share the same restrooms.)

Oddly, I don't think the phrase "Prime Time" was around in the 50s, but I'm not quite old enough to be sure about that.

I had the same experience as jann1033 had. It was just my dd and myself, with an early PS. In fact the restaurant hadn't really opened when we got there. We were seated in the rear seat of the car. About 5 minutes later another couple and their 2 kids were seated in front of us, in the front and middle seats. First of all...it was really dark in there. I could barely see the menu. Then there wasn't enough room on the 'shelf' in front of us for our food. We only ordered a hot dog, cheeseburger, fries, onion rings and two drinks!!! Then after our food got there, the lady in front of me kept swishing her hair around and it kept getting in my food!!! And like Jann, there weren't all that many there. There were a ton of open cars.
We much prefer 50's Prime Time. But since we liked the atmosphere at Sci-Fi we may go back just for dessert at some point to show dh what it's all about.

We love both Sci-Fi and Prime Time. Never gotten a bad meal at either in 5 trips. But then again we figure that most Disney food is sub-standard and overpriced, so since we have that attitude we are usually not disappointed. Love the atmosphere in both. Hey I'm on vacation and I"m not cooking -- what could be so bad??

Now I'm worried! I usually really like Sci-Fi, but the times we have gone it's been my whole family 6-8 of us. This time it's just DBF and myself. I don't want to have to sit in a car with a bunch of strangers dragging their hair in my food. They don't have smaller cars, huh? Do I remember that there were like smaller tables or something around the perimeter? It wouldn't be as cool as being in the car, but better than hair food :)

there are a few tables made to look like picnic tables by a concession stand toward the back so you might be able to eat there, not sure what they do with them. but think there were only 4 seats per table. i didn't notice if they have smaller cars or not, everything around us sat 6

kallison..:) :) actually i expected that at all the rests.this trip and for the most part was pleasantly surpised so it might be somewhat based on attitude ! there were only a few we wouldn't return to usually either due to way overpriced even for disney or because of being buffets where we just do not eat enough and for $24 per i'd rather have someone actually bring me my food!

I love both restaurants, had a great time in both and great food. It might be a little more expensive to order a burger or a salad but hey, it's Disney and where can you find that kind or atmosphere anywhere else? Not in Ontario anyway, that is for sure. If you get stuffed into a booth with another family and their are empty cars nearby, I would not feel awkward at all about making a joke with the other family and then polietly asking them if they would be offended if you moved to an empty car. It was silly of the server to do that in the first place – what are they going to do? Get mad at you for moving?! No, they are going to polietly bring over your plates and condiments because they want a nice tip! Have a great time, would love to hear your trip report!

We eat at Sci fi every trip. My teens really like it there. Food wise its not on my top 10 but they like there so we hop in for a burger and shake.
