Paying OOP, kids turn 9 & 6 right before surprise NYE trip. I just can't decide if they will like the teasing/old fashioned theme at 50's or the car/drive-in theme at Sci-Fi. Both menus are fine for everyone. Which would you choose?

Maybe we could do both (one for lunch/one for dinner) if the portions are generous enough to split to keep in budget. I really can't decide.

Maybe we should skip both? We have a car so anything is possible....

I would vote for Sci Fi. The Sci Fi movie clips were fun to watch and the food was yummy. The portions are not huge, but they can be shared, especially if you're going to order an appetizer or dessert.

For 50sPT, it depends on your children. I went as a youngster and hated it. The server didn't teased me, but I spent the whole meal worrying that they would. It was very uncomfortable and I remember hoping that the meal would be over quickly and that the server would stay away from the table. So for me, I'd only go to 50sPT if it was the only option in DHS.

Sci-Fi has such a fun atmosphere- I would definitely recommend it! Have fun!

We like both restaurants but they are both very different. The only thing we didn't like about Sci-Fi is the "car" tables are very small and not a lot of leg room. Plus for us the menu is rather small in amount of food offered. But it was a fun atmosphere. 50's has bigger portions IMO and more home cooked meal choices.

Back in May I could not decide between these 2 at all so I made an ADR for both PT for lunch and Sci-Fi for dinner.
50's PT: the food was yummy, I had a basic salad but my 3 boys ate large meals (portions are big) and we all had dessert. I felt our server maybe was having a bad day. All 3 boys would've loved a fun interaction but she basically gave us the "rules" called them "skipper, skippy and skooter" which was cute but that was it.
So we liked the food and the ambience was cute, but service lacked.
Sci-Fi: dark, quiet, cool. Friendly waiter. Awesome awesome burgers (we all got that) we were so full we couldn't even think about dessert. The cars were cool, movie clips were fun.
Great rest from the park!
~ for the poll I picked Sci-Fi it was relaxing, burgers were good. I'm sure if you got a great server 50's would be even better ~ it's the luck of the draw!

honestly, depends on your personality. DBF loves sci-fi, I loved 50s. But he'll go to 50s to get a pb&j milkshake once every couple of trips.

I think sci-fi is better for lunch than 50s would be. The food at 50s is heavier, dinner type food. I had a turkey sandwich the last time we were at sci-fi and fried chicken and smores (which were fantastic) at 50s. Both were lunch trips, and I wish I would have skipped the big meal at 50's, but it would have been ok for dinner right before fantasmic or leaving the park.

I voted for Sci-Fi :) We're coming to Disney for the 1st time in Nov & we have Sci-Fi booked for after Fantasmic. :wizard: My ds6 is really excited about this one :goodvibes
Have a fantastic trip!!

Sci Fi is such a great atmosphere...my kids loved it! The food however was probably our worst meal of that stay. The food at 50's was great. The atmosphere was less appealing to the kids but they had fun nonetheless. It really depends on what your looking for.

Sci Fi is probably the best themed restaurant there, the kids will love eating in the cars at the drive-in. Food is good if you stick to the basics. Tried their steak last fall and it was awful. We go for burgers, reubens etc. I love the turtle cheesecake!

We also love 50's Prime, food is good Mom style cooking and happy they added a sampler platter. The 'interaction' kept us away for years but we found it was fun. Sometimes they are great and sometimes they are just so busy you get the basics. We have found often you end up interacting with tables around you. They traditionally do not pick on younger kids, mostly older kids and adults.

Given the age of your kids I would pick Sci Fi hands down. Unless you want to plunk down a good bit of money doing both, I would pass on 50's. The theme of it all can be lost on small kids unless they watch TV Land and get that era. Once older they probably would have more fun with it.

for a 9 & 6 yr old i'd definitely pick SciFi. they'd love the atmosphere. Its so neat eating in those cars. plus its cool and quiet in there. Food wise, i've always had a great meal there and i've been a bunch of times. I went on thursday and had the picnic burger, so yummy!! :goodvibes Pretty big burger too! I also had an oreo shake. OMG it was fabulous! :cloud9:

50's is good too, but I dont think kids that age would enjoy it more than scifi. I think they'd like scifi way more.

we have a reservation at sci fi in a few weeks and am glad to hear all the positive about it, I have been once before about 5 years ago and was second guessing booking again but everyone else coming along with me this will be their first visit to disney so all is new! Figured the theming will apeal to everyone so am gald :thumbsup2to hear meals are getting some good reviews!

I vote 50's Prime Time although we preferred it when they had a lunch menu. Sci-Fi food wasn't that good but we liked the atmosphere. If you get a good interactive server at 50's it can make it a fun experience :)

Ate at sci fi yesterday. It's was our best meal so far. Had great burgers. Also got boneless chicken wings appetizer. Food was served hot and fresh. Had sundaes for dessert...little heavy on the fudge but enjoyed much. Friendly efficient server. Helpful and friendly check in staff.

I am interested in this as well. I feel like I want our family of 4 to go to SCi-fi but I am nervous as to how they seat you. I thought I heard somewhere that other people could end up sitting in your car.?
I want to go there, but only want our family in our car, and not have them stuff 2 other people in our car too.
Anyone know or have any experience with this?

I voted for both because we do like both restaurants, however we like Sci-Fi more because of the atmosphere and is a must do for us.....maybe I should of just voted for Sci-Fi :rotfl:.

We've never been to 50s, but we've done dinner & lunch at Sci Fi 3 times and we absolutely love it! It's one of our traditions for each trip. The food is good- i'd suggest the burgers since they seem to be the biggest hit. The service has always been great and the atmosphere is awesome!

Most of the cars seat 6. With 2 in each row. There is plenty of room and you don't have to interact with the other party especially if they are behind you. If you don't want anyone else to sit with you ask for a 4 seater or a picnic table

There are cars that hold 4 (we were in one last trip) but the majority of cars hold 6. They put the "hitchhikers" in the 3rd row and honestly, you won't even know they are there since they are behind you. If you are looking for a restaurant where your family can talk and interact, this isn't it. My kids love the atmosphere and we have eaten here every trip we've been (and will be again in about a month).

I Love Lucy & Leave it Beaver are not part of the TV shows that children currently see.

So while I personally prefer 50's Prime Time, the atmosphere is lost on young children.

Sci-Fi.

We tried 50's Primetime and there was no interaction of any kind. We had heard about it but we might as well as have been at any Denny's or the like. The food wasn't all that either. It was just OK with my chicken almost charred. Maybe it was a bad day.

We've been to SciFi many times however and we do enjoy it. My only small quibble is that we are normally just a party of two and always end up in someone's backseat. It would be nice to be in the front for once! You shouldn't have that problem with a larger group.
