Could you help me pick which one to eat at? It will be me, DH, my Mom, and our 2 daughters, ages 9 & 11.

I like the menu better at 50's Primetime...it seems to have a larger variety. Do kids seem to prefer one over the other. Thanks in advance!!

I've been to both. I prefer 50s Prime Time. The atmosphere/theming is much more interesting, the food is better (try the chicken pot pie, it's yummy). As long as you're open to some fun and aren't too self-conscious. At the Dine In, you pretty much just sit in cars and watch black and white sci-fi "trailers" which repeat every x minutes.
My vote is for 50s.

Funny, I had that same dilemma last week with the same question! I too have a 9 year old and I decided to do an ADR at 50's Prime Time because of the food and I think we'd enjoy the inter-action with Aunty, Uncle, or Cousin like "elbows off the table", "go stand in the corner". My son would definitely enjoy seeing his parents get "scolded" like he has in the past for some of those infractions!

But, we will also try to visit Sci-Fi as well for milk shakes. It too seems like a fun place with it's drive-inn theme.

Good luck!

do the fifty's--My DH was put in the corner last year the kids loved it- he was throwing spit balls at the sister- in-law. great food, great staff.

we have done the sci-fi- food great but a little boring for the kids

this will our 3rd year at 50's

Another vote for Prime Time - we did both last summer (DD11, DS8). The food is better and it was really fun. At Sci Fi, it is very dark and the only "fun" is sitting in the car (2 people to a seat so you are in rows) and watching the old sci fi clips - most of which my kids didn't recognize and didn't appreciate.

When my DS was 11 (he is now 16) went to 50's for the this time and my sister was with me. He loved it, and I liked it because the food was more like Mom used to make. He loved the adults getting the reprimands for "elbows on the table" and "not eating all of your vegetables." It still remains one of this his favorites. Sci-Fi was great but it was in the dark and, frankly, he was bored there. We ate lunch there and if I remember correctly it was sort of like what you get at a drive-in, burgers, fried, shakes, etc.

I hope that helps. Enjoy, relax and have fun.

I would also put in a vote for the 50s but for another reason. With your party, at Sci Fi, one adult would have to sit by themselves if you wanted a car (and that's really why you are there). A group of five would be much more comfortable at the 50s and being able to talk to each other. I love Sci Fi but it's just the husband and me now.

I'm sure I'll get bashed for this, but I just am not impressed with Sci Fi. Our last visit was in August. The food was just ok, the service slow after the initial rush to get our appetizers out, and the movie clips annoying after the first few minutes. I think PT would be much more fun for the kids.

This may sound silly, but the weather always influences me. 50's serves what I consider "cold weather" food. I can't eat pot roast and meatloaf and mashed potatoes and such in the heat. A burger and a shake on the other hand, I can eat in all weather. So, when it's cool, we head to 50's; when it's hot, we go to Sci-Fi.

Enjoy!

I went to both on this last trip and 50's blew Sci-Fi away for us. After the first few minutes, the thrill of Sci-Fi was over for us. 50's on the other hand was a blast from start to finish and has awesome (& fun) desserts that your daughters would like.

50's prime time all the way. The fried chicken is out of this world!

Oh dear.......i have a ADR for Sc-Fi in May for lunch. Don't think us English would "get" 50's?! Wonder if my DD(10) would understand it all? :cheer2:

We avoid 50's because it really does require you to get involved and not be shy. DH and DS are as shy as it comes and would never survive the meal. DH will never go back to Whispering Canyon because I asked for catsup and a diet coke! I thought he was going to kill me!

Sci-Fi is where we usually eat. It's not great food, it's very overpriced, and the seating is tough if you are in one of the cars and have an odd number of people. It's also very dark, and hard to read the menu. But....DH and DS both like it there, so we go back.

We like both (luckily we've never had a bad restaurant experience at WDW, knock on wood) but prefer Sci-fi for lunch and Prime Time for dinner.

Our kids enjoyed Sci-Fi more than 50's. I thought 50's food was better but the kids prefered Sci-Fi burgers hands down. My boy's are 9-11 and they really liked the whole "eating in the car" atmosphere. They disliked 50's because our "babysitter" embarrased them a little. They just weren't into it much. Our 17 yo dd thought 50's was a hoot, especially went she went to the restroom and our server went looking for her, screaming her name asking if she fell in. Its a tough choice...maybe have 50's for dinner and Sci Fi for lunch as someone suggested. That way you will have an idea which one the kids prefer!

We ate at both the sci fi and primetime last week I noticed the menu is very much alike at both..the same pasta dinners..the same pork tenderloin..same steak..they have fried chicken at primetime that they don't have at sci fi. and it was really good..the steak I had at sci fi was really bad..it had some kind of sour bbq sauce and potatoes that were supposed to be au gratin and they tasted really sour..tangy..not good at all

also the lighting at sci fi is very dim so you can't see what you are eating anyway...if I had to pick between them I would pick primetime for the food and sci for atmosphere

Happy Days with lunch at Arnolds- Leave it to beaver

great food

We love Sci Fi. The kids love sitting in the cars and watching the movies. We enjoy the food there.

The best thing about Sci-Fi is the cheese burgers. When we went they were not on the menu, but just asked and they said sure. Also the kids got those light-up ice cubes in their Shirley Temples. They loved them.
