Sci-fi just for dessert??

I have been really reading up on all the restuarants and have found it to be the majority of the people feel Sci-fi is only a soso place to eat.
It seems to be the food that is lacking.
But the atmosphere sounds like a lot of fun for 2 dd's 8 & 9 (this is our first trip to wdw).
I heard a really good idea on another thread about going for "dessert only" at the sci fi in the afternoon....you get the atmosphere and i hear they have a huge Ice cream sundae they serve the kids on a glow in the dark frisbee.
This could make a great pit stop during the sept heat.
Anyone think we would need ps reservations to do this around 3pm?????
Has anyone done this???

We do this all the time.

We went for lunch during our first trip and most of the food was just OK but we really like the atmosphere. On our next trip we were hot and hungry in the late afternoon (3:30ish) and decided to stop in just for a milkshake. It was not crowded at all and I think we waited 5 minutes. We both order big shakes and an order of onion rings. It was a great break and we really enjoyed ourselves. It is now kind of a tradition. We have never had to make a PS for our "break" but we also go in the off-season. If I was going during a busier time I would probably make a PS just to make sure we got in.

This is a GREAT idea! Go between 3 and 5; it's not crowded and if there is a wait, it's minimal. It's a good way to take an afternoon break, rest your feet, and have a terrific time. I agree that the desserts are the highlight of this place.

This is our plan too! I do have a question...I noted on the wdwig.com menu that you can get the glow-in-the-dark frisbees for 2.50...do you have to order a kid's meal to get those, or could we order a couple orders of fries and have them served on the frisbees (we expect to pay for them, of course)? My kids would love that!! Yummy...fries and milkshakes!!
