sci-fi...is it really that bad?

A little tip...

So if you want the car table don't take "first available."

Just want to assure people....if you make an ADR you are guaranteed a car table. But, as this poster points out, if you opt for 1st available to expedite things, you'll be placed at a round table. Many walk-ins are placed at the round tables. And hey, on a hot day, coming into a nice cool dark restaurant is great and I wouldn't care where we sit. But when you're looking for the full experience...wait for the car.

The pics on the official Disney site for this restaurant are very good! You will have a fun time I'm sure. :goodvibes Stick w/ the basics.

Oh we will, thanks for the info, do you happen to know when the "Lunch" menu stops??

This is GOOD to know also, as the cars are part of the reason we wanted to go!!!!

The Sci-Fi is horrible. Horrible, horrible, horrible. You are going to hate every aspect of the place from the service to the food to the atmosphere.

So if you happen to have an ADR for the Sci-Fi on 9/25 anytime between, say, 1:30 and 5:00, I would cancel it immediately. (and if its not too much trouble, can you post on here a little before you do cancel it?)

Thanks for the laugh....too funny!:woohoo:

count us in with those who love the Sci Fi. I think we have dined here on every trip with the kids, they LOVE it. They actually like that the movies and clips wind up repeating themselves because it gives them a chance to see their silly favorites over. We always have burger, fries and shakes and they always taste just like you'd expect!

We liked it very much - the experience of it - I hardly noticed the food...which probably means it was not offensive to me - :lmao:

I could take it or leave it, but since this was the one restaurant my son actually named when I asked him where he wanted to eat on this next trip I'll prob. be doing a lot more taking it in the very near future.

I'm another one who enjoys Sci-Fi despite all the bad reviews it gets here on the Dis. Then again, I also enjoy a burger at Applebee's and Chili's from time to time.

We ate there about 10 years ago and it was our worst meal ever. Not just at WDW, but anywhere. We couldn't eat it and it was pretty expensive too.
With all the posts here saying it's about on-par with Applebee's or Chili's (which we like) it may very well have improved over the years. The naysayers could be people like me whose dining experience was closer to "Applebee's dumpster" but so many years ago that things may have changed since then.
We're still not willing to go back though.

We were there in Sept. Our reservations were at 2pm and we still waited at least 30 minutes. My middle son did NOT like the movies (found them a tad scary) which really surprised me. The food was pretty good--just burgers, fries, and shakes.

The worst part was our waitress. She was not that great to begin with. What threw me for the biggest loop was when I asked her to refill my boys' drinks (they were in the "front seat"). She picked their drinks up (they were in styrofoam cups with lids), SHOOK THEM, and said they had plenty and left.

That was just our experience with one particular waitress. But....we won't be going back next time. There are too many other great places to eat at Disney....

We love it! We always try to go there to eat. I think the sandwiches are really good and the peanutbutter chocolate thingy for desert is yummy!

We went for the first time in June and really liked it. The food is not gourmet fare but the burger was just as good as at other places in WDW. The only thing was the milkshakes were extremely thick, so it was difficult to drink until it melted a little. I got it as a drink so by the time my entree came it was fine.

They have awesome burgers, onion rings, and shakes. They have a fun, dark, cool (bordering on cold) environment to eat in. My kids LOVE it and beg toeat there every trip. I booked 50's instead of Sci-Fi on our last trip and then had to listen to constant whining that we weren't where they wanted to be.

I agree to book a very early lunch (think earlier than 11:30) and you'll get seated ASAP and the kitchen will have your meal out very quickly.

:thumbsup2

I wouldn't say that it is bad but rather nothing special. So if you are looking for something different then don't go there.

When we were there in December, we thought the food was fine. We had burgers. Thought the onion rings were fabulous and had milkshakes for dessert. I think as long as you stick with the basics you will be fine.

We love the Sci Fi.

On our first two trips to WDW, we avoided the Sci Fi, because of the horrible reviews. Then we went. We fell in love with the place.

The theming is so cool. We have such a good time sitting in the cars and watching the screen. The kids love it. It is so relaxing, and wonderful to get out of the Florida sun. We usually plan around lunch.

If you have a party of four, you could have a party of two sit behind you. There are three rows to most of the car tables. Once someone sat behind us and it was fine. It is so dark that you don't even pay attention.

We never had a problem with the service. It is always great. They never rush us. We never have an appetizer, so I cannot say if the appetizers come close in time with the main meal.

The food is fine. Stick to sandwiches. I always order the Rueben. It is good.

I can only sing praise for the Sci Fi. It is one of our first ADRs.

Have fun,

To me it's way better than an Applebees. Ew I don't even like places like Applebees lol. To me that kind of food is fake lol.

Love Sci Fi!!!! They have good desserts too!!!

I'd say it's equal to Applebee's quality. It was decent food but the prices were pretty steep. The atmosphere is cool, though, so if you're on the dining plan it might be worth checking out. I probably wouldn't go back.

I like it! I thought the ribs were yummy! My boys loved their steak. It's hard to use a TS credit fot it though. I usually put the tab on my DDE or TIW card and save the TS for something that 's more $$.
