We're going to DHS for 2 days, so for one day, I made an ADR for 50s Prime Time for lunch. The second day I made an ADR for Sci-Fi for lunch. We have 2 boys, ages 3 and 5 when we go in July. We're definitely sure about 50s Prime Time but still a little uncertain about Sci-Fi (I've read some negative things...but I know, I really have to judge for myself).

Do you think a place like Sci-Fi could scare my kids? Does everyone get to sit inside a car? My little one doesn't use a high chair anymore, if that matters at all. How is the food there at lunchtime? Anything in particular you'd recommend trying, and anything you'd recommend avoiding? We are not overly picky eaters, and I have seen the kids' menu, and it's fine for my boys.

I don't have any children BUT the Sci-Fi Drive In is a staple in each and every Disney Trip.

I don't recall anything too graphic with the small clips that they show. There are only a few clips of old monster movies. Then there are fun cartoons and old commericals they show.

You will be seated in a car. I don't recall there being any non-car seating, but doesn't mean there isn't. Just never noticed.

Definitely a menu kids will enjoy. They have GREAT French Fries popcorn::

I think this is a perfect choice for your family. We always hit here for a nice lunch. Plus, it is dark and cool inside which will be welcome relief from the heat of the July day. (We often go in July, too) The boys will be able to relax and cool off. The food is really good! We love the shakes, cherry cokes, onion rings, burgers and reubens.
The movies shouldn't be scary or inappropriate at all.

We ate lunch at Sci Fi for the 1st time last year and we all really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was very fun & we thought the food was good. Our 4 yr old son really got a kick out of watching the old movie clips while eating his lunch in the car-table.

There are a few cars that have a regular table (for 6 I believe) within the car instead of rows of seats. We were seated in one of those once when we arrived early for our ADR and opted to take whatever we could get. They also have "flying saucers" which are small round tables with an umbrella, but I think most of the time they would ask you if that's OK before seating you there since the cars are one of the main reasons people like the theming.

My DSs are 2 and 4 and love Sci-Fi. The food is good (especially the burgers, shakes, and onion rings), the movies are funny not scary, and, at least last time we went, the service was great. We ordered one kids' meal for the boys to split and our server did all the splitting for us, even bringing out two salads and two sundaes for them. It's one of our favorite places to eat!

We too enjoy Sci Fi for lunch! We switch off betwen Sci Fi and 50's prime time, because we only go to Hollywood Studios once each trip. I would say Sci Fi is our favorite. We enjoy the burgers and milkshakes, relaxing/non-hectic atmsophere.

Its a great choice! We have been there for lunch twice and the reubens and onion rings are to fantastic! love the atmosphere too

We love lunch at Sci-Fi! Most of the seating is in cars - it's a really fun place, and we love the food and shakes. :yay:

Thank you everyone! Sounds like I made the right decision by making an ADR there! All of you made some good points, like the excitement of eating lunch inside a car, and getting out of the heat and enjoying a more relaxing lunch instead of having to find a table or eat outside somewhere.

We love Sci Fi. Our favorite meal? Burgers, onion rings and milkshakes. Really fun place with a great atmosphere. Our kids love it there! :)

Lots of people seem to rave about the onion rings there! We will definitely have to try them. As long as they're nice and crispy but not greasy we will love them! A nice burger is always good too, but I see they also have sandwiches that look very good and would go great with those onion rings!

Yes, Sci Fi is a GREAT lunch choice :thumbsup2

Sc-Fi is a MUST for lunch on every trip!

DH and I enjoy the atmosphere, the movie they play and the food. We always get a burger, fries and a choc milkshake! Yummers!

Can't wait to go again in September!

We went to Sci-fi 2 years ago and my youngest was only 1. Because she was in a high chair, we needed to sit at a table and not the cars. If your little one does not require the high chair anymore, you should get a car which sits 2 in front and 2 in the back. It's not scarry at all. In fact, my two girls are 3 and 6 and we're going again this year. It's a bit darker and the movie is usually a old disney cartoon but nothing scary in there. Hope you enjoy!:thumbsup2

Oh, we would definitely prefer to sit in a car! My little one doesn't use a high chair at home or in restaurants anymore. He sits in a regular chair at a table, or he sits next to one of us in a booth. And he prefers it that way...he doesn't like the high chair anymore!

We LOVED it! Great for a good burger/shake but there is a few other options too.

It is nice and cool - but we found it TOO cool , and i wish i'd brought a cardigan with me for in here (i'd not brought one because it was so hot out, but after a 5minute relief from the heat, it was uncomfortably cold)

Being in a car table was really fun too :goodvibes

I like the burger and fries. Shakes are good too. Can't say if the movie previews will scare a two year old. I wouldn't think so, but I haven't had a two year old in 8 years.

I think it depends on the particular child.

As for seating, there are "UFO" seats that are round picnic tables. I don't know if you can specifically ask for them. We walked in for lunch one day and fortunately they had a UFO table open (in July no less!).

How many fit in a car? We are a family of 3:wizard:

The way I remember it working, there are two benches per car, but both benches are faced the same way. I think it's usually two per bench. You might be able to squeeze in three if one is very small.
