Sci-fi for a 5yr old?

I'm just trying to plan meals...180 is coming up!!! I was just wondering if Sci-Fi would be fun for a five year old or would it just be way over his head and not as fun as somewhere else? I really want my step kids to have a wonderful and very memorable trip! My step daughter will be 8 and she is very VERY shy, so places like WCC and 50's prime time are out. She would go total deer in headlights if a grown up she did not know started telling her to eat her veggies!! We are working on the shyness but it is a SLOW process!

anyhow any suggestions that people may have for places they have enjoyed with younger kids would be appreciated!!

My boys liked Sci Fi and they were 4 & 7 when we went.

They also liked 'Ohana, Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey's, the Teppanyaki restaurant in Japan, Cape May Cafe (nothing notable of characters or anything, but they liked the food!).

We just got back and both my DDs (2 & 4) loved it. They loved that they got to sit in the front of the car together while Mom and Dad sat in back. They don't know what a drive in is, but they still loved it. That was the best behavior I have seen from them at TS in a while.

My daughter would hate it there- she's 8 but she is also extreemly scared of things.....she has a hard time on Pirates and Haunted Mansion for that reason
My son who is 2 loves it there. But he loves anyplace that will give him mac and cheese or food in general. LOL

It just depends on the child- do they scare easily- if so the things they show probably aren't the best, but if scary things don't bother them, go for it (I'm not saying it is super scary or anything, just monster type stuff that some kids don't like)

Our DS(3) liked it. Get the drinks with the glow cubes. Food is only okay, but the kids don't care. It is kind of a dark, quiet atmosphere, but sitting in the car is fun.
The best food at MGM is at the Brown Derby, but kids don't really appreciate the food as much as the themed dining.

Last August we had lunch there & all my kids absolutely loved it & want to go again this summer. They were 10,7, & 5 at the time. DH & I liked it too!

We went for the first time in October -- we went for lunch. My DD was 8 & DS had just turned 5. It was his favorite meal of the week! He loved that we sat in a car and he loved the silly movie clips. Just recently he said something about the 50' woman -- it was funny! Neither of my children are easily scared by TV or movies, if yours are, you may take that into consideration. My kids just had a ball. DH & I loved the burgers too! The only complaint I have is that it's difficult to help kids cut their food, if needed, when they are sitting in front of us.

We plan to go back next fall -- it's the only place my son requested.

ds5 loved it... but he also loved chef Mickeys, CRT, Ohana, LTT, donalds breakfastosaurus... there are plenty of places to choose from

This is one of me and my little brothers fave places to eat in wdw besides Boma. I love the atmosphere. You feel like you are at a drive in. The cars are really cool. The waitresses either give you your liscense or a speeding ticket at the end of the meal, and there are also cool souvenirs like glowing cups and glowing ice cubes or glow in the dark frisbees.
I am 18 and my little brother is 14.

They don't know what a drive in is, but they still loved it.

DW and I joked about this very same thing just a couple of days ago. We know our DS (4) will love sitting in the car to eat, but he has no clue what a drive-in is.

Is it scary? I've been thinking about going there next year with my DD (she will be four) & my DS will be 1. She scares easily--and I don't remember what the movies were, I must have been in high school last time we were there. I remember loving it, but I also wasn't a mom then!

The only thing that may scare her is when certain movies come on like the monster one some of the waiters scream ahhh. It is mostly funny tho. I never noticed little kids crying or anything.

My daughter is VERY skitish. I took forever to get her on the Haunted Mansion with a lot a begging and promises... She loved the Sci Fi. Give it a try at lunch. If you luagh at the movies and say how corny they, it will ease the tension. Good fun and harmless!

This is a must for us every trip. Just a side note...my usual adventerous dd7 has started to have some fears as she gets older. One of the things that REALLY bother her about this place is one movie scene where they throw a huge syringe at the large man. But we know that now so as soon as that scene comes up her and I "escape" for a while and then she is ok. She will agree to eat there as long as agree to leave with her when that scene comes on.

Other than that we really like the place. They have great onion rings!

It really depends on the child. My DS (7 at the time) came over to our room almost every night for 2 months after eating at sci-fi. And at 9, he still says he doesn't want to go back there. In every other way, this is a rough and tumble boy, but for some reason some of the goofy "scary" scenes messed him up for a while.

I agree with skater... it depends on the child.

We took our then 5 year old DS there on our last trip. The movie clips really freaked him out. I guess I never realized how scared he really was at the time. We are planning another trip for next summer, and I asked him if he wanted to eat there again (now this is a kid who has watched Pirates of the Caribbean 1 and 2), and he said he would rather not.
