It would help if you told us about your party....is it all adults? or will there be kids? if kids, how old? That way we can give you the best advice. :) But of course, everyone has different opinions.

Here's mine. We LOVE LOVE LOVE the atmosphere at SciFi. Plus its the quietest restaurant aorund! Simple food, burgers and shakes. but man, their picnic burger is awesome. and their oreo shakes, TO DIE FOR! If you have an odd number in your group, seating can be challenging. but they do have a regular table within a car that seats up to 6 people (also, they have the lame picnic tables at the back which nobody uses lol). That way you can be facing eachother while eating, instead of eating in the car watching the movie screen.

50's food is good. If you have kids, I find that most dont appreciate the sarcastic humor. My son wasnt pleased at all.

Sorry - guess that would help... It is my, my husband and my son - who will be 13 at the time... we are going over Christmas - of next year... so yes - we have some time to figure it out - but I am a planner and like to get things set in my mind... we were looking at places last night and DHS was the one we couldn't decide on... We've done Brown Derby - and love it - so we wanted to try something else...

I agree with above poster, the make up of your family is probably going to be the deciding factor. We've been to 50s a few times, I'll admit I'm not crazy about it but my DIL likes it. There is rarely anything on the menu I like, I'm not picky by any means but I don't eat huge meals and tend to try to eat healthy. I'm also not a huge fan of the whole this is Mom's house so we are going to rag at you, again my DS and DIL love that aspect. We managed to get into SciFi as a walk in for lunch last trip, it was our first time eating there. We enjoyed the food, it seemed a little over priced for what it is, burgers, etc. but it was good. Since we were a walk in we sat at the tables in the back, not the very back but not the ones shaped like cars. They turned out to be better for us since we were a party of 3 and one would have been separated in the car seats. The old movie ads and shorts on the big screen are fun, the noise level is a little high. Personally, I would probably go with SciFi.

50's PT is a favorite of my DS14. He wants to go there on every trip. He loves the fried chicken and the shakes.

Our family prefers 50's PT over Sci-Fi. We like the comfort food at 50's PT. Although sitting in a car watching film clips is fun (especially if you've never gone there before), the seating is awkward with only 2 next to each other and 2 in front or behind you, so you can't really speak to everyone in your party. Plus we don't love the food at Sci-Fi and eating in the dark can be a little difficult.

This is what I worry about... Someone trys to make my DH eat green beans we might have a fight on our hands... LOL!!!

We've been to both but didn't care for Sci-Fi. I really, really wanted to love it but I thought the atmosphere was awkward. The food was delish but it was TOO QUIET. It was like we were in a movie theater and everyone was waiting for the main attraction to begin and then nothing happens. The film clips were fun but once they rotate 3 times through I was kinda over it. Its really dark (which is to be expected at a drive-in, right?) but I couldn't see my food! LOL! We sat in the car and my girls really liked sitting in the front seats, however, there isn't very much table space IMO. Probably about 8-10 inches deep...less than an average food tray. Since your son is older he may like it better than the "home" feel of 50's prime.

We like the ambiance of Sci-Fi and didn't mind the whimsical joking at Prime Time, but you could always have lunch at one and dinner at the other? Or lunch at Prime Time and snack/dessert at Sci-Fi. If I had to choose between the 2 my choice would be Sci-Fi.

When we ate at DHS, we chose SciFi. I hate teasing, and would not enjoy 50's Prime Time at all! We did enjoy the cars and movie atmosphere at SciFi.

We LOVE 50s PrimeTime! We went with 7 last time, 3 boys from 5-12 and my in-laws, and it is the one restaurant (besides Be Our Guest) that we are repeating. The kids and all the adults thought it was so fun and the waitress was hilarious. My father in law was giving her a hard time, and he's usually so reserved, and we were all just dying laughing. The food was awesome too!
While we haven't done the SciFi restaurant, we have movie theaters here that show actual movies and have a full menu that we love going to, and go all the time, so I just wouldn't want to sit there and watch short clips and not all sit together, especially with an odd number.

We love 50's PTC. I love the fried chicken and DH loves the pot roast. Good comfort food. The atmosphere is great and the servers tons of fun.
With 3, someone would be sitting alone at Sci Fi if you are in the cars

Primetime gets a little bit of an edge over Scifi for our family. The sample is wonderful and the pot pie will just make you smile. Scifi is fun for nostalgic reasons and not bad either, but we prefer PT.

We prefer 50'd Prime Time, but the theming at both are awesome. We like the food more at 50's Prime Time.

We prefer Sci-Fi. I enjoy the quiet atmosphere, the darkness (gives a bit of a reprieve from the harsh daytime sunshine), and the movie clips are fun. And sometimes I just want a really good burger lol, and I think the one at Sci-Fi fits the bill. Plus, it's pretty close to Star Tours, which we like to ride at least 4 times while we're at DHS. We're really not fans of teasing, so 50s PT just isn't our scene.

When I ate there the first time, I was with my mom & stepdad (party of 3, like you), and we didn't have an ADR, and they sat us at one of the "flying saucer" tables in the back. At first I was bummed that we didn't get a car, but we had more leg room, and there are little speaker boxes on the "fence" walls, so you can hear the movies just fine.

50's Prime Time Cafe (Great fried chicken). We love it. Sci Fi has a great and unique atmosphere, but we like the food better at 50's Prime Time. They are both fun places.

This is our opinion too. If you are ok with joking / playing a role, then go to 50's (such good food, and PB&J milkshakes yum). If you'd rather avoid the 'cousins' at 50's, then go to Sci-Fi for the corny movies (and oreo shakes). We love both, but prefer 50's food.

Wow, it seems to be evenly split! I've only been to Sci Fi (haven't made it to 50's PT yet), but we enjoyed Sci Fi. Good burgers, fries and shakes. We ended up getting in as a walk-in, and had to sit at one of the tables in the back. The benches at the tables are pretty uncomfortable (super-hard seats) but even so, we enjoyed ourselves! I'd definitely go back.

Can't stand the eating in a fake car at Sci fi. The seats are very uncomfortable at best and very hard to have a conversation with you party in the back seat. For the 50's aspect about the waitstaff interaction, they are very good at gauging how you will interact. And that's the fun. Bee at both many times andd always find the food better and wait staff more fun at 50's. And if you get to see another guest having to do the tapot it's worth being there.

I prefer the 50's, but I really think there is to much food, I feel that I have to force it down.
My only problem with Sci-Fi , is the seating arrangements.
