I have heard mixed reviews about this restaurant. I am planning a vacation for a week in December 06. It is for me and my DS's 4&9 and DD 11. So I would like to do fun things at dinner. I have the 50's Prime time on my list. But I keep hearing mixed things about this restaurant about the food and service. Any thoughts?

I LOVE the theming at Sci-fi, but the food is TERRIBLE!! I've had a hamburger one time that was edible, that's about as good as it gets.
That said, I would recommend you do the Sci-Fi for Dessert only. It is much less expensive, still get the wonderful ambience and the desserts are great!

I love 50's Prime time too. The food is good, ambience great and don't miss the Peanut Butter and Jelly shake..YUMMY!!

I heard the mixed reviews on Sci Fi also and was a little reluctant about eating there. However, I went ahead and tried it in Nov. and we were very pleased. It wasn't the best of the best, food wise, but we enjoyed our meal and the theming. I especially liked the artichoke dip appetizer.

everyone should try it once, but stick to the basics. if only the food matched the atmosphere.

We love it and have to go EVERY trip!! We enjoy the food, but it's not like "Wow! That was awesome! We have to eat there again!!" Truthfully, we don't go for the food..mostly for the tradition and atmosphere.

We have always enjoyed 50's, as have our kids, but after about four times there we are ready for a change. We are going to try Sci Fi because dd10 really wants to go. From what I've read here it sounds like if you stick to pretty basic stuff and don't expect a great meal but enjoy the atmosphere you will do ok. I admit that being on the dining plan helped make our decision, even for the basics the place is pretty pricey.

I love the theming at sci fi and I agree that it is the major reason to go there, however, fries and onion rings were great- hot and crispy with a little spice, shakes were amazing!!! and my barbecued chicken sandwich was tender, flavorful and really enjoyable. BLT soup was great, too. Certainly not gourmet cuisine, but I was definitely satisfied.

Hi, They have THE BEST Adult Milkshakes!! I also had a burger with my YUMMY shake that was pretty decent. I would say give it a try the kids will LOVE it - I am sure!! Joan

Sci-Fi is a MUST-DO according to my kids! They LOVE the place. They get Cheeseburgers & milkshakes and they say they enjoy their food. My husband and I think the food is OK, not terrible but not memorable either. But you can't beat how cool it is eating lunch in an old-fashioned car at a drive-in with corny movie clips playing. It's just a great place to go!!

A definite must-eat-at restaurant for my family -it's a tradition. :sunny:

we love the theme at sci fi, the food is ok/good we normally get a burger or reuben & a shake. our servers have always been great, talkative & lively. its an essential every trip for us.

I second this. My kids & I stuck with the basics (burgers, fries and shakes). My husband tried the ribs in some type of coca-cola sauce that was terrible. We love the theming. Now we go for lunch instead of dinner

My DS-6 loves this restaurant, and we all enjoy the theme. If you stick to the basics it is not bad.

It's a great place to experience! The atmosphere is one-of-a-kind, and the air conditioning is wonderful in the summer. The food stinks, but if you order burgers, you're usually safe. The Hot Fudge Sundaes are also pretty good. Don't order the Moon Pies, they were really bad.

Thanks for the great advice everyone! I'm thinking that we will do this for lunch while we are there. We will make it a point to stick with the burgers! Thanks again! :thumbsup2

Maybe I'm in the minority but I thought the food was pretty good. DBF and I shared the onion rings as an appy and I had a grilled chicken ceasar salad. DBF got some pasta dish. I also have a very sensitive stomach and the food didn't hurt it a bit :thumbsup2

I think your kids will love the place! Its really neat how they seat you in cars and you can watch the clips of old science fiction movies. Sometimes a waiter or two will say the words outloud to the clips...I thought it was a really fun time!

oh man those coca-cola ribs. :crazy2:

Loved the atmosphere. It was DS's favorite. The Spinach Artichoke dip was really good; the chicken ceaser salad was terrible. The moon pies were terrible. Everything else we tried was just average, blah, forgettable. We ate there twice - I think my other entree was some sort of a steak. Not horrible, just very plain and dull.

I LOVE the atmosphere, it is probably my favorite WDW restaurant for that.

I don't find the food to be so terrible, just not special, especially when the theme park pricing kicks in. For that reason, I don't go for the food.

agreed. sci-fi's atmosphere is what you get when you let imagineers run wild. totally flippin' sweet. just don't go for a dining experience.
