normally, we had 2 weeks off at Easter....next year, 1 week in Feb & 1 week at Easter. Are there alot of schools throughout the country having that time of the year off....I was just wondering about the crowds.....

Sue, is that the Buffalo Public School district, or are you in a suburb?

Just another curious Buffalonian from the North side! :)

Down here in Silver Creek we've already been following that schedule for 2 years as has Eden. Lakeshore jumped on the bandwagon this past year. Supposedly W. Seneca will be joining next year. There was actually a huge write up in the Buffalo News about this last year. It's mandated that by the 2006-2007 school year-- all public school's will need to adapt to that schedule.

There were no flights to be had President's Day week this past Feb from Buffalo-- they were literally booked full!!

Just to answer your question-- President's Day week is usually the start of peak season in the spring at WDW. It is traditionally known to be pretty busy. We are in the midst of planning a trip that week for 2005.

It's not the Buffalo Public School. Their schedule is posted on their web site. It's the suburbs. My kids go to a suburb school and my Dh teaches in the city.

This works out fine for us because we'd rather go at Easter than during Feb....same price, longer hours and warmer weather. Hopefully, with more schools going to a split break, it will eventually start to divide the crowd between both breaks..

This is the first year we will be using this split break as well. My kids are at Hamburg schools and I teach in the Depew district. Fortunately we all have the same schedule. We are going to try the Feb. break for a quick/short getaway in 2005. Even if everyone does the same thing the weather in FL. will be way better than the southtowns in February!

Here in Mass., we have been following that schedule ever since I can remember and I graduated 20 years ago. This year my kids Feb. vacation was the second week of the month but in 2005, it will be the third week in Feb.
I do not know how the crowds are at WDW during Feb. vacation, but my mom brought my son on a cruise this year on Feb. vacation (which was the second week of the month) and the cruise was packed. They said they were expecting the same attendance the third week also. I guess alot of schools have either week off. So, I would expect the crowds to be heavy at WDW too.

well, I guess I got my answer.....we are in Ken-Ton School District & this is new to us.....we have always gone during Valu Season when the crowds are low.....quite honestly, I would rather die of the heat & stand in non-existing lines in August.....we are not into crowds! Glad I asked this question.....it's fun to see all the Western New Yorkers on these boards!!!! Thanks for all your answers....Susan

We are having the same thing this year in West Seneca and I thought I could get away with having a 2 week vacation and the kids would only miss 5 days of school. I hope it is not as crazy the week after President's Day....dare to dream!

Patsal already answered for Depew Schools. My DD will be a senior next year. This will be the first year they will do the split break. We were thinking about planning a trip to WDW with some friends (all girls trip) from Orchard Park. They have been on this split break for a few years now.

It's great to see so many Western New York disney fan's on this site! Hello everyone...:wave2:

This is the first year of the split for Akron Central School also. I think if we go anywhere, it would be over Easter, a bit warmer weather and an extra day off too (Good Friday).

I live just west of Atlanta and for the 2005/2006 school year several counties around the Atlanta area will be following the same kind of system. Kids will be out of school a full week in October, week at Thanksgiving, Christmas holidays will be 2 weeks, another week in February and then spring break in April. I think we will be seeing a lot more school systems changing.

We live south of Rochester and our schools around here have had President's Week off for as long as I've been here (12yrs) and I believe much longer.

I believe we used to have Easter week off but that is changed to the third week of April which often happens to be Easter. Last year they shifted it a week to be on Easter.

I wasn't exactly in favor of the split break. My kids have 9 days off at President's day and at Easter (both times they get the Fri before through the following week). Now, if you don't go away during Feb, there's not too much to do around here. At least at Easter, there's a chance for a few nice days. Often in Feb, it's too cold to even go out and play in the snow.

I wish they weren't connecting the second week with Easter. I wish they would do it like the previous poster mentiones...the 3rd week of April (maybe adjust it by a week if Easter happens to be 1 week earlier). This year we have 9 days in Feb and then 9 more in March. The weather probably won't be nice for either break and there's only 1 month between them.

We are going away at Easter (a combo of places in Florida...south beach/Orlando/Gulf shore). The one nice thing about a March Easter is that my Dh's birthday falls during the break. At this point we're planning on pulling the kids out 2 days early (WEd/Thur). I know we won't be the only ones. I imagine for the first couple years of this new schedule there will be a high absentee rate for those days.

Wow, disneyatl, your schools sure have lots of time off!! Here, we only have 2 days at Thanksgiving, 1-1/2 to 2 weeks at Christmas, and 1 week for spring break. We have an occasional day here and there coinciding with parent/teacher conferences or teacher reporting days. School begins at the end of August and we're out the first or second week of June. I would love to have larger blocks of time throughout the year...we hate the summer heat and crowds in Orlando! :(

We are in Ken-Ton as well and just found out about the split breaks. It will take some new adjusting with babysitters and such.

We also always go in late August - i will take the heat over the crowds anyday.
