School Summer Holidays...I hate them.

We have actually done this. We have got a massive box and made a 'wendy' house by drawing on windows etc. Also made a car and a shop. They take up a hell of a lot of room though.

We made a tv when we had a power cut, Kyra has it in her room and watches it at bed time

As I work 3 days a week in the school holidays my two DDs have to go to holiday club which costs me £50 day!

Having said that they absolutely love it so this does take any guilt away at having to work during the hols.

Only trouble is when it's my days off I feel I have to compete with the activities they do at the club.

I'm loving some of the ideas mentioned and really like the idea of making a photo frame and also the room out of a shoe box.

We already have a cookery club one night a week which we all enjoy even though half the time they don't like the stuff they've made!

As we're members of the National Trust we visit local places for free and during school holidays they always do different activities. At a place not too far away they're doing a different theme every Thursday where there will be activies based on the theme e.g. seaside, space etc. If the weathers ok that will be my Thursdays for all of August taken care of with a picnic to keep it a cheap day. Now I just need to find something for Fridays

I'll look after your kids for £50 per day! Childcare is so expensive, isn't it?

Anyone living in the Midlands: Warwick Castle has evening jousting on every Saturday night in August. 7 - 9.45 £25 for a family ticket or free for Merlin Pass holders.

Local library? There are some good activities on cbeebies too.

I don't know what it's like in other areas but round here most of the childrens centres and leisure centres have school holiday activities. Where i'm working now is doing a playscheme in August for children age 3-6 (based in the foundation classroom) and has various other things on. Our foundation kiddies break up tomorrow, can't come soon enough for the ones desperate to go to 'big school'
Also, RE printers i've often found cheap ones on eBay or even in the likes of Tesco and Asda.

Oh I'd forgotten all about sock puppets - I loved making these when I was a child. Definitely going on my list to do!
