At my school we have periods. (Ironic). But umm, we have 2 semesters each having 4 periods. So my periods are 75 minutes long...:rotfl:

I must try to reword this question:

What are your classes called/semesters?

two semesters with six academic periods each. But I have eight periods a day. 3rd period is homeroom, 6th is lunch, and lunch comes in the middle of fifth. so you're in 5/6th at the same time.

4 "marking periods", as they're called. All year long we all have 9 periods. In those 9, most have a lunch period unless their schedule is so jammed that they cannot have one. Certain classes are only half year (either having them for one semester or every other day all year long) but regardless we always have 9 periods. Each period is 45 minutes and we get 5 minutes passing (so I suppose each class is technically 42.5 minutes ;)). Lunches range from 4th-8th period depending on how it fits into your schedule. We don't have a "homeroom", per se. We do announcments at the beginning of 3rd period. Ah, and if you're a junior or senior and have first or 9th period free, you can come in/leave early [assuming you fit the qualifications (a certain attendance, certain grades, parental permission, etc.)].

When I went to public school...

We had 8 periods a day each for 45 minutes.
We don't necassarily have a "homeroom".
One of the classes changes in second semester.
We have three lunches. A, B, and C. A lunch comes before 5th period, B lunch comes in the middle of 5th period, and C lunch comes after 5th period. It all works out, somehow.

In hour school our classes are called Hours and we have 9 hours including lunch. During the school year we have 4 quarters which are about 2 1/2 months long. I can't Wait for school to start i love back to school shopping!!!

75 minutes long each.

We call it Georgraphy here. xD

Oh yeah, and we had 4 minute passing periods, which are freaking impossible to do. Our lockers were wayy on the other side of the building, so to avoid tardiness you had to basically carry a bunch of books around all day.

See now, that cant work for me.

I have 2 sciences this year and we cant bring bags into the lab, and I have WAY TOO many books to carry. XD

That depends on the year. 9th and 10th grade, at least in NY, are involved in a 2 year course called "Global History and Geography" or 'Global' as most shorten it to. At the end of 10th grade, you take a cumulative Regents (the manditory exams that every NY student has to take at designated times throughout the schooling career. NY is the only state, at least it was as of when this knowledge came about, to do this.) exam covering everything from both years. It would be my guess that whoever you spoke to over in the states was from NY.

Two semesters.
3 Six Weeks in each semester.
School's five days a week most weeks.
4 classes called periods or classes everyday.

I think there is four terms (so four report cards), possibly more.
4 periods (this is what I think, you may only get to 4 in 11&12..)

I'm only describing my high school.

Four marking periods. Two semesters.
Each marking period has four periods, plus lunch. (2 classes, lunch, 2 classes.)
The first semester has the same six classes. (Two alternate every other day.)

The second semester has four periods, plus lunch.
Six classes, but four of them are different from the first.

Block scheduling. Simple.

my school has periods as well, but we dont have 2 semesters. we have 4 quarters per school year, and we have 7 periods per day. our 7 periods are between 45-48 minutes long (5th period is 3 minutes longer because of the three separate lunch waves)

Wow, isn't that hard having 3 different lunches? I mean dont you get to see your friends?

Yeah, my friends always got the same lunch with me. =]]]

Having three lunches is way better than having one lunch with 1,000 kids.

4 marking periods.
two semesters.
4 90 minute classes each semester.
4 lunches.

I've got two semesters in a year, each semester contains a quarter. We get progress reports every quarter and report cards every semester. Every day there are 13 periods. Each period is an half hour long. Lunch is one period. We can also have 4 blocks instead of periods. Blocks are an hour and a half long. Or you can have a mixture of the two, like me!
