My daughtern started middle school on Tues. Came home yesterday just RAVING about the pizza at lunch. What is it about school pizza? Thinking back, my schools was pretty good too :confused3

After working in a middle school cafeteria and schelping out pizza for a yr, I say ewww....:lmao:

My dd who is in 8th brings her lunch.

I've actually eaten the pizza in DS's school (I sub) and it was pretty good!

Did you know that Schwan's make the majority of the institutional pizza around the nation? Same company that makes Red Barron, Little Charlie's, Freshetta, Tony's and a few others.

Our school actually gets pizza from a local pizzeria twice a month. That's when my kids really love the pizza.

My DDs' school actually makes their own pizza. They make it with a stuffed crust and it's really good. They also make their own calzones which are REALLY delicious.
Having taught in many different schools/different states, I can say most school pizza is decent.

Same here, every Friday. They had a new company start last year, and they tried to get the kids to buy some square pizza on Friday's, but it didn't last too long. When you live in an area with a pizzaria on every block, you can't give the kids fake pizza.

Our school has it delivered by the local pizza shop. So on pizza day you order a day in advance. Kids love it. :thumbsup2

Our school offers a different type of pizza every friday. This week its whole wheat stuffed crust, thats definitely not a favorite.

I was never a big fan of our school's pizza. However, once a week, Pizza Day was sponsored by Domino's. That was the day EVERYONE got pizza.

My lunch I usually bought at school consisted of a pack of Tastykake powdered donuts, Minute Maid lemonade, and an apple/orange/whatever fruit looked good that day. I always went to the "a la carte" line because I thought I could stretch my $2 further with stuff I'd actually eat.

From what I understand, the new policy is that students must get a meal. I would have felt like I was wasting money if I had to eat from the regular line. Of course a lot of the school's policies are now very prison-like, but that's a discussion for another place and time.

I loved school pizza when I was in school...I think it was the rectangular Schwann's kind :lmao:.

Our school system has gone to a totally healthy menu, and now the pizza is awful! My DS is like a garbage can...he will eat anything...except the school pizza. I tried it and have to agree...it is nasty!

Elio's Pizza is the one that always reminds me of the school lunch pizza.

Now at my DDs school, there is a different variety every week (but still always pizza on Friday): pizza pockets, stuffed crust pizza, pan pizzas, the Elio's like kind, pizza strips, etc.

I haven't seen the kids school pizza but neither will go anywhere near it after trying it once. All I know is that it is called a pizza square and has to be whole wheat or whole grain.

School pizza at the middle school was DISGUSTING. It was rectangular, and the cheese was like plastic, the sauce was bitter, there were only one or two slices of pepperoni on it and the crust was ALWAYS underdone. The kids still loved it though. :confused3

The high school's pizza is from the same company, but the high school bakes it until the cheese melts and the bread gets done, and puts on 3-4 slices of pepperoni. Makes a huge difference. I still wouldn't call it delicious, but it's definitely edible!

my DD's school rotates through 4 or 5 different types of pizza - she does not like one of them!!!!!

I wish she did because it would mean a break from packing a lunch.:headache:

When I worked at the HS we had pizza delivered every day by a local place. Then we would top it. So there was plain pizza and another choice every day. Sometimes it would pepperoni, some days sausage, we did a chicken fajita, a meatball, a hawaiian, a peppers and onions and a greek. The kids loved it.

My DD hates her school pizza. They used to have Pizza Hut once per month and she loved that but she won't touch the school's pizza. It's a PITB since the school offers very few vegetarian options and now that she is in middle school there seem to be even fewer!

My DS11 started middle school this year and he was all about the pizza too! :rotfl: He said it was "WAY better than elementary school's pizza"!

I won't let him buy more than 2x a week, though, because all he'll eat is the pizza. :rolleyes1
