Anyone else have a day off at the end of the year for a school picnic? Ours is at a local amusement park called Kennywood.

If anyone is ever in the Pittsburgh area and you have some time, don't miss Kennywood! It's a great old fashioned amusement park with some great rides.

Another Pittsburgher here. Our school picnic isn't until June 22nd, so the kids are out of school by then.

DS7's school doesn't have their school picnic until the 22nd (DS's actual b-day), but their last day is the 23rd. They are going to one of the local fire houses that has a nice grassy area for picnics and such (only about 2 blocks from us).

It's the first time I'm able to go and of course I'll be bringing treats to celebrate :bday:

Wow...fancy school picnics! Our's is Thursday night, but it is just a potluck right on school grounds. I know they are renting a party tent (in case of rain). However, we have great school grounds....but still, it's no amusement park!

We have those too. DD 's is this Friday. DS's is next Thursday.

Kennywood is something the kids do with their families. Its fun to go because the kids get to see all their friends and when they're older they actually go with their friends. DS is 12 and will hang out with his friends this year. It's a tradition all the local schools have their day at Kennywood.

If it rains, DS's school just has the "picnic" in the gym/cafeteria (that's what happened last year). DS attends a very small private school where the gym doubles as a lunch room.

We have 'field day' out on the blacktop of the schoolyard:sad2: When my oldest dd went to the school they used to walk to the high school and have field day on an actual field but then one year it kept getting cancelled b/c of rain so they had it on the blacktop and that is where it has been ever since. It's lame( and usually about 95 degrees)!

Looking forward to going to Kennywood. We are moving to the area as soon as school is out in NJ. Have fun!

We had ours last Thursday. There is a local place that donates (or rents cheaply) their fields and picnic pavilion. Kids play softball, volleyball, relay races, face painting, etc. The PTA does hot dogs/hamburgers, etc. DH and I always donate a cotton candy machine, all the supplies and our time to run it. It's a lot of fun. The kids have a blast and eat lots and lots of cotton candy. Only the first year did we have to cut the other kids off. There were a few of them that were up to 6!! :rotfl2:

DH wants to do snow cones next year! :thumbsup2

My kids last day of school was last Friday. I went with my daughters class to Grand Rios - which is an indoor waterpark and my DH went with my sons class to Valleyfair, which is an amusement park.

My kids go to a private school and the public schools around here are still in school for another week or two. The last day of school outings were great. We were the only school at Grand Rios -so we had the waterpark to ourselves and my DH and DS got to go on ride after ride as there were no lines there either and the weather was perfect.

Yes, Kennywood, been there many many times.

Hey, look down, kennywood's open. :rotfl2:

Another Pittsburgher chiming in. Our school picnic is also tomorrow at Kennywood!!!

We are so lucky to have Kennywood in our area. It really is a great little park. Can't wait to get some Potato Patch fries!!!!

Have a great time! :)

My 12yo baby :) rode the Sky Coaster. For those who don't know, the SC is a kind of HUGE bungee jump kind of thing that swings back and forth after the initial drop.

My heart was in my throat.

No end of the year picnic here. Sounds like fun, though :)

Another Pittsburgher here....my dds 8th grade picnic is today at Kennywood!!
