6th-8th is 9:00-3:00

9th-12th is 7:45 until 2:15

We also have full day kindergarten and DD can't wait to start in July!!
Our district goes year round prek-5 IN for 9 weeks and off for 2-3 then back for 9 and so on I think next school yr starts July 20th

The elementary school my dd goes to ( K - 2nd) is 8:45 - 3:30
Last year when she was in kindergarden I didn't know how she was going to handle such a long day, but it was fine - she gets on the bus at 8:25 and doesn' get home until almost 4:00.

Our school system has more schedules than I can keep up with.

A lot of our school buses do two routes -- one to an early school and one to a late school. My kids' current schedules (approximately) are 7:30-2:30 for high school and 8:30-3:15 for middle school. The elementary in our district is 8:50-3:05.

BTW, there's data out the wazoo that increased participation in the arts leads to higher test scores, less truancy, etc. Can you tell I work for an arts council?

I'm surprised to see so many HS's that start later than ours. I know I would have loved it when I was that young. The JH and HS's used to go from 7:45-2:30 and they decided that the classes should be longer. So they added 2 minutes onto each period. I really don't see how those 2 minutes could have increased the amount of information we were taught.

Wow! I'm amazed at how much shorter some of the school days are.

Here the schedule is:

K-4 8:00-3:00
5-8 8:40-3:40

Don't know about the high school, but I know they start around 8:00.

our school (private) goes (k) 8-12:30 m-th/ 8-12 f
(1st -8th) 8-3 m-th/8-12 f

but they only get 30 minutes for lunch break, 1 day off for non federal holidays, start in early august and get out in june. more parents want full day kindergarten so they may change it next year.

the public schools in my neighborhood go shorter hours (i think 1st-6th is 8:15-2:45 and out at noon on wednesdays), go less days-just the bare minimum number that is required by law.

i remember going to kindergarten from 8-11:30 (the afternoon kids went from 12-3:30), elementary being 8-3:30 (but we got an hour for lunch and 2 25 minute recesses) jr and senior high 7:50-3:10.

i can't imagine how a kindergarten teacher manages to accomplish much with 4 hours or less-between getting them settled down, potty breaks, snack, recess, getting them together to leave...i think it's harder for little ones to go the full day, but tons more go to preschool or daycare and are used to being dropped off at 7 & picked up at 6 so it may seem the norm for them.

Our schools go

K is 1/2 day so they either go
9:05-12:05 or 12:45 to 3:45 M-Th
Fri they do 9:05-11:05 or 11:40 to 1:40

1-6 M-Th 9:05-3:45 and Fri 9:05-1:40


7-9 M-Th 7:50-2:45 and Fri 7:50-12:40 and they do periods 1-4 and the next day they do periods 5-8 and trade off each day.

9-12 7:30-2:10

Here 1-5 is 8:30-3:20, Grades 6-12 is 8:30-3:10. Our kindergarten program is run a little differently than most I see, but I really like it. Up unitl Thanksgiving break the kids go all day every other day, some weeks T, TH, some MWF. After the break the groups are combined and they go all day every day. It seems to ease them into the transition a little better. Also, the All Day every day is optional (you must tell them your plan, it's not on a what do I feel like this week basis) so parents can choose to either send them MWF or every day. When my DD was in Kindergarten I think all the parents opted for all day everyday.

My girls (K and 2nd) go from 9 until 3:10.

My son (HS) goes from 7:50 until 2:50.

Looks like I win the prize for the longest school day. Our day starts at 7 a.m. and the bell rings at the end of the day at 2:38. This is for everyone k-12. IF the kids ride the bus it isn't unusual for them to get on the bus at 6 or 6:30

My 1st grader goes from 8:15 - 2:40. My 7th grader goes from 8:05 - 2:30. Same amount of time but they stagger since there are some elemetery grades in my sons school. HS is 7:40 - 2:30

We always went to school from 7:35 to 3:30 in high school and jr high, I think elementary school was 8 to 3:40 or something like that. My ds doesn't go to kindergarten yet, but I think the kids around here go from around 8 am until 3:30 just judging by the time the bus goes by.

7:50-3:15........but K is 7:50-2:25 and Pre-K and PPCD have two sessions: 7:50-11 and 12:15-3:15. We also have extended day for tutoring/review and enrichment until 5:45.......but it's 1st and up.
