School Bread at Epcot's Norway Pavilion

I’ve only tried it once about 5 years ago and I really liked it. It’s on my list for this trip but now I’m rethinking it hearing how many people have had stale and dry ones lately :ssst:

I tried school bread a couple of years ago after hearing people rave about it for years. The bread was dry, there wasn’t much custard, and the taste was just OK. I liked the cronut much better.

I had the same kind of experience with the warm cinnamon roll from Gaston’s at MK. It was huge, but it was dry, not warm, and the taste was just OK.

Gasp. I'm planning on my first Gaston roll as well!!! Big Sigh. Will just have to see.
Do they have a microwave to heat it for 8-10 secs at Gastons??? I've heard nothing by raves about the Gaston roll! Ugh.

I refuse to eat something that is just ok. If I don't care for those first couple of bites of the school bread... in the trash it goes!
At least I know I like the cronut!
Thanks for your input!

For me, I think its just a good idea to try one - since I have never tasted one at all.

To my knowledge, there is not a microwave for guest use. The roll is on the menu as “Warm Cinnamon Roll,” so I assumed that it would be served warm! As I recall, they were quite busy when I ordered it, so maybe they didn’t take the time to warm it. Maybe if had been heated, the icing would have melted and the roll would have been less dry.

You have the right attitude though - try them for yourself and make up your own mind. I hope you love both the school bread and cinnamon roll.

I love the school bread. I buy it at night and bring it back to room to eat for breakfast the next morning. I keep it in the to-go container and seal that inside a gallon Ziplock to keep it fresh overnight.

I do the same thing with the frangipane pastry from France.

Hello All:

Just wondering how many of you are School Bread fans.

I am thinking of treating myself to it this year (I watch my sugar intake, but a treat now and again doesn't hurt). But I have heard some say it's overrated. I know that at the end of the day I have to judge for myself. Just wondering how many people LOVE the school bread? I may just stick with my trusted Cronut!

Please share! (*_*)

Daughter and niece were not impressed with the Disney version of school bread. They like the prepackaged school bread they sell in Norway much better, LOL!

If you go to Gaston's Tavern before they have a chance to put the buns in the warming oven, they are dry and just eh. But go when they are fresh, and have been in the oven for a while, yum!

Favorite treat to get... but used to be better years ago, something changed. And quality can vary.. as some mentioned, occasionally dry/too little cream.

As with all things Disney..some love it, some hate it. You have to try for yourself to see which category you fall in.

I have the feeling that the school bread is one of those desserts that some will absolutely love for the texture and the cardamom... and some will not like it for the texture and the cardamom lol. It doesn't have a "soft" texture, and I don't think it is meant to. I like to taste it, but don't need or want to eat a whole one by myself. I'm also one of those people that if there is one dessert I love, even if I get it every time, that's what I go with because I watch the sugar and gluten too and I don't want to "waste" a treat on something that is "meh". I'm not a school bread die hard fan, but it is in my rotation, I'll get it every other year or so.

It's one of my very, very favorite Disney treats. I like it b/c it isn't very sweet. I've never had one that is tough or hard, they've always been tender and perfect with a generous amount of custard in the middle. It's one of the few treats everyone in our family agrees on when we're there, but my kids can never resist the troll horns, so I have to deal with everyone trying to steal bites of my school bread!!

The cronut is really great, too, so you've got a tough choice ahead of you!!

Have a fun trip!

LOVE !! It might be the only food item I get on EVERY visit....oh, yea...and the margaritas....But that's a beverage. School Bread...the food of Norse gods!!

I was just reading about and looking at the picture of the Troll Horns. I may try that as well.... same sitting.

Thanks for your input Mome Rath. Makes sense.

Thanks for the Gaston tip. I want to make sure my roll is warm when I get it. Otherwise I will politely let them know that I cannot accept it any other way.

I agree 100%! I'm one who happens to love cardamom, and I love the texture as well. The dry pastry complements the creamy inside very nicely. A hot cup of coffee to sip around it, and it's heaven. DD and I have to have one each, every trip!

I thought it tasted stale and dry - like it had been sitting out a few days. Not a fan, esp when there are so many delicious treats to sacrifice calories for!

The bread itself isnt all that sweet, more spiced and the custard on top is semi sweet with sweet coconut. I would rather enjoy one of their raison pretzels with the chocolate drizzle and a vikings coffee.
