Just received a phone call from Travelocity. My return flight from MCO has been changed! I now have a four- hour stop over. Not really good for a pregnant gal.

Why have they done this? Has this happened to anybody else?

Are there any other flights or nonstops you like? Ask for one.

If something you like better is not sold out, they really ought to give it to you at no extra charge regardless of your fare class (L, K, M, etc.). It may take some arguing.

Hi Seashore CM

I called Delta late last night, and I spoke to a wonderful CR, who helped me. She said it may take her some time, but she will see what she can do. This morning I got an email, and she was able to change my flight - thank goodness.
There was no way I could do a 4 hour stop over being pregnant with a six-year-old and a husband. That would have made the total flight time 7 hours!

Thanks for your quick reply.

Why?

I think American Airlines was the first to announce a new policy of not waiting at the hub for all the connections.

For example,

(Then) all the planes came in between 12 and 1, and all of them depart for their next destination around 2.

(Now) Planes getting in at 12 leave at 1. Planes getting in at 1 leave at 2. Planes getting in a 2 leave at 3, etc. This reduces time the planes sit on the ground and also does not require so many gates to hold all the planes at once.

Suppose in this example you change in Dallas and flights arrive from Boston at 12 and 4, and leave for Boston at 1 and 5. The flights from Orlando reach Dallas at 1, 5, and 9 and go back to Orlando at at 2, 6, and 10. Then going from WDW to Boston you will wait in Dallas over 4 hours. Travelling from Boston you get into Dallas at around 12 and leave for Orlando around 2 which is not so bad.

If your flight times changed by more than 90 minutes they will give you a refund if you want one. At least that's was I was told back in August. That would give you the option of looking at other airlines.

Purrrrfecta-

If you do have trouble with a long layover, you should be able to get out and about to excercise your legs and get a snack. I had 2 high-risk pregnancies and moved an entire household back from Sweden when I was at the end of my eigth month(no choice). British Air allowed me to fly up to 36 weeks. I definitely sympathize with your situation but I do think that you have some options should you have to stay at the airport and you are worried about your health. Take care and I hope Delta can work something out for you. Threehearts

Not all airlines have the same policy regard changed schedules and refunds, etc. It always necessary to check with each airline to see what thier policy is.

yes, they did that to me also... 6hr layover in atlanta with a 8 yr old... no way,,,i called them and they were very happy to find me another flight...

Hi,

The CSR from Delta was able to get me on a direct flight flying back, which I think is great.

Threehearts. I flew from NY to London when I was pregnant with my first, and we sat on the runway for 7 hours before we took off! I thought I would go mad. It was snowing. Ah, what a memory. Both of my pregnancies have been high risk as well, and I am still experiencing the morning sickness plague, which doesn't help.

Thanks for your help.

Connie-
I can't say that I've sat on the tarmac for 7 hours. I think I would have lost my mind!! Susan

We have 6 kids and Delta changed our early am flight to a 3pm flight. Needless to say the kids(well the older ones--the little ones think we're leaving on the 5 but we're actually leaving on the 2) were very disappointed . I called Delta and at first they said there was nothing they could do but refund the money.I did some research and the other companies were too expensive so I asked to speak with a supervisor. In the end they changed my flight from JFK to Newark(where I wanted to go in the beginning but couldn't afford the ticket) and gave us an 8:45am flight. I was so happy. Now the kids didn't have to pace the floor waiting for their flight. BTW pregnant or not--I hate flying.I would only choose a direct flight. I can't stand landing and taking off more than you have to. It is your time why waste it if you don't have to;) The original tickets were 211 and the new ones at the time were 520!!!!!!!!! but they didn't charge me a dime:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Beware....."Direct Flight" is NOT the same as non stop. A direct flight may land at an intermediate airport, deplane and board other passengers, and then resume to the next and hopefully final destination. A great example of this is Southwest, they had a "direct flight" from Baltimore to Phoenix, it made 2 stops and took 9 hours to get here. Yes, it was $89 USD, but that is a lot of waiting. It is very hard to get a non stop between coasts, for me, because Delta is my carrier of choice, I have to go west to Salt Lake, then N/S to Orlando. Coming home, Orlando to Dallas, connecting to Phoenix. BTW, Connecting almost always involves a change of aircraft, but not every time. I could go N/S on America Worst, er West, but it's easy to see how I feel about them.

Always, always reconfirm everything with the airline before you go, if you aren't sure. There are plenty of experts here on the Dis, but airlines have a sneaky (?) habit of changing things at the last minute. I got a call one Saturday informing me my flight had been cancelled. Of course the call came while I was on the way to the airport. But it all worked out at the ticket counter. I was just glad DH hadn't gotten far from dropping me off, and could just loop around Tempe and pick me back up.

I just keep telling myself, I'll be in the world soon, I'll be in the world soon, I'll be in the world soon..............

mickeyfan1-thank you so much for that information. I didn't realize there was a difference. Fortunately for me the flight I have is "non stop". When I choose it on the web site I specifically looked for the flight from Newark to Orlando and back without any other stops. I also checked the time length of the flight.

Purrrrfecta-I hope your "direct flight" is also non-stop!!!!
