My work team is planning for some "fun time" in a few months. In the past we've golfed, gone to MLB game and went bowling. Now we're considering a scavenger hunt.

Our office is in a metro area. We're in the middle of town and have a lot of opportunities close by. We're next to a park, and shopping is within walking distance. We could cover four square miles easily on foot.

Has anyone organized something like this? There are sites that do this for profit, but it can run thousands of dollars. We'll spend a hundred on prizes and call it a day.

At our disposal we'll have a couple of GPS units and a dozen hunters.

Anyone?

We have done this several times. There are lots of ways of doing it.

Once, everyone broke into groups and had a shopping list with items on it such as earings, socks, mug etc, then had $20 to go and buy everything on the list and whichever team got the most items from their list one. This was a birthday party so all items were donated to the birthday girl, but you wouldn't have to do it that way.

Another time, one person went through and wrote down some questions like "What is the color of Spring?" And then at Nordstroms would be a big add that said "The color of spring is pink!!" Then another question was what color is store number 231 on the information map. Another was, what store has a dog in the window? Whoever finished the list first won. That was fun and free!

Another time we did clues that we gave to shopkeepers, but it was a more rural area.

It will be fun!

You could hide a memory box at the Wilderness Lodge. ;)

Did you watch The Apprentice where the teams were given a certain amount of money and time and they were to get the things on their list. For the team that had gotten the most item with spending as less money was the winner. You could do something like this, but at the end, have the team members come together, and make something out of their items. That item can later be donated or sold.
