I was just checking out the weather forecast for our upcoming trip this weekend arriving Oct 1...looks like we may be in the middle of some rain. Does anyone know if they sell child size ponchos at WDW or the resorts, and if not, anywhere I can get them? It's my first time, I have to say, buying ponchos, since we're used to sunny CA weather at Disneyland!!! Walmart? Kmart? Do they have smaller sizes for a 5 yr old and a 3 yr old? Or should I just get raincoats for them? Any suggestions? Are umbrellas allowed in the parks? : :umbrella: :confused3

You can buy cheap ponchos just about anywhere (Disney, Wal-Mart, Target....) or bring an umbrella, but I wouldn't get too worked up about 'scattered thunderstorms'. I swear the Orlando weather forecasters leave that forecast up from May until December. There are always the possibility of 'scattered thunderstorms' in Orlando, more often than not (this time of year) they drop some rain and are gone.

Scattered thunderstorms usually just mean there's a possibility of rain. And most of the time, it's a quick downpour of about 15-30 minutes. In other words, it's nothing major or anything to really worry about. :) You can spend most of that time hanging out in a shop or while eating!

If you really do want to get ponchos for the kids though, Publix typically sells them. And yes, they do carry them in child sizes, although I'm not sure if the smallest size will fit your 3 year old. My kids have them (kept in their backpacks for the walk home from the bus stop), but they've rarely used them.

Well right away you can tell I'm from San Diego!!! Scattered thunderstorms here, and it seems everything stops. I appreciate your advice, and will not let it ruin my thoughts of a great trip with nice weather. I guess it's better to be prepared than not. My kids are so looking forward to this trip, I'm sure a little rain won't hurt them any! :)

Just a little piece of advice since your kids are so small. I would imagine you are going to be using a stroller? I highly advise you to take a couple of extra cheap ponchos (I got two for a dollar at The Dollar Tree) to use as a stroller cover.

Umbrellas are allowed in the parks but really are hard to deal with when trying to get through some of the walkways. That's coming from someone who has to dodge getting poked in the eye with them.

Just another quick thought: if your 3 year old will spend most of their time in the stroller rather than walking, get an adult size poncho and put it over the entire stroller, with just his/her face looking out. I did that when my son was small and it worked really well (it also kept the stroller dry).

:rotfl: :rotfl: It's because out there, it's an all day drizzle! (I grew up there--I know how the rain is! :rotfl2: )

Here, it's sunny until around 3pm or so. Gets cloudy very quickly, and then the skies open up. Rains very hard for a short amount of time, and then it's like someone flips a switch, and it's over. People tend to call it the "afternoon rinse". :flower:

Good ideas for the stroller.....I'm sure my daughter and I, the 3 yr old, will just duck off into a store for some shopping while my husband and 5 yr old son play in the rain!

It's good to hear thoughts from you all since you seem to experience it quite a bit, it puts me a little more at ease. I always dread going on the freeways when it rains here, or like you mentioned, DRIZZLES, and everyone is freaking out on the roads. It's not fun, and makes for a long day! It sounds like it won't be that bad after all.
