NO WAY!!! :earseek:

There's a lot of good, scary movies on that list. The Exorcist, Halloween, The Ring, Blair Witch... I think that Halloween gets my vote.

I attended a Catholic school in 7th and 8th grade (I'm not even Catholic). In my 7th grade year the Exorcist came out and the sisters were besides themselves. We were warned if we saw that movie we would go straight to Hell. Of course we were warned if we did any number of things we would go straight to Hell. I was already destined for Hell (I may see some of you Exorcist viewers there) because I was not Catholic.

Well... It took me years to undo much of was taught me but at 44 I still haven't seen the Exorcist. I figure, "Why take any chances">;)

The Blair Witch Project

I don't know why but this film really freaked me out me. I believe it is because it more of what you don't see rather than something jumping out at you.

Amityville Horror and the original Salem's Lot. My wife wouldn't let our cat sleep with us for weeks after she saw Pet Cemetary.

I was home alone at the age of 11 while my mom and sister were out a gymnastics and the Amityville horror came on so I watched by myself with all the lights in the house off and it was in the basement scared the crap outa myself LOL.

I saw the Exorcist when I was 16 and no other movie has ever scared me that much. I had dreams about it for months and slept with the lights on.

When my younger sister watched it a couple of years later, she slept with me for a month! I gladly scooted over and shared my bed because I knew what she was going through! I tried to warn her!

I had a hard time choosing between The Shining and The Exorcist, but since The Exorcist was the first movie to scare the living daylights out of me, it got my vote.

The scariest movie EVER for me was Seven. I still get the heebie jeebies just THINKING about that movie. :earseek:

I remember when I was a kid, they had the "tame" version of the Exorcist on network television. I happened to catch a glimpse of it. I think I slept with the lights on for a month! Not that lights would help me. I kept waiting for my bed to move and my 45 records to fly around the room! I saw the entire movie for the first time in college and I was still afraid of it! I don't think any movie will ever be as scary as the Exorcist because it happened to this normal little girl in her bedroom. Very scary stuff.::yes::

A lot of great scary films, but the Exorcist tops them all. I had a similiar experience. I have always been a fan of scary films even when I was 6yrs old watching Creature Double feature on Saturday afternoons.

I thought I could handle any movie and when the Exorcist was being shown on TV I hounded my parents all day to make sure we were home in time to see it. I must have been 9 or 10 at the time and they tried to warn me but to no avail. Well the movie comes on and my parents decide it be that much scarier if we watch it with the lights off.

Halfway through I was begging that we change the channel to watch Love Boat/Fantasy Island. Of course they said we couldn't do that since I was so adamant about watching it. Well by the end of the movie you could find me on the floor hiding under a blanket holding my ears (she sounds as scary as she looks) waiting for the movie to end.

It's become one of my all time faves of any genre and still scares me to death.

The Exorcist, by a mile.

It's a fantastic movie though. DH and I saw the rereleased version in the 2nd row of the movie theatre and it was totally worth it.

I remember the warnings we students used to get about movies when I was in Catholic school. The movies I specifically remember being warned about were The Silence of the Lambs and the Last Temptation of Christ.

I think I went out and saw Silence of the Lambs that very week just because I was told not to.

I LOVE scary movies! The absolute scariest movie I have ever seen is Ju-On: The Grudge. This is an asian movie (in Chinese with English subtitles)and it really gave me the creeps and I just saw it a few months ago. The American version will be released to theatres on October 22 this year, but I don't know if it will be anywhere near as good as the original. Asian movies, IMO, are much scarier than anything Hollywood has come out with in many years. I did however like The Ring better than the movie it was based on, Ringu (Japanese).

The Shining is my favorite scary movie, just gotta love Jack Nicholson's performance. I think the Exorcist is a good movie, but I don't find it a bit scary (my husband does though :D )

My mom took me to see The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) at the drive inn when I was 5 yrs old. I think that started my obsession with scary movies.

Jaws...I don't know why but this film totally terrified me

I also vote for the Exocist with Psycho coming in a close second. Shindler's List also scared the heck out of me because it was true.

Back to the Exocist, the first time I saw it in the theater, I was a basket case for weeks. I made myself go back and see it again just to get over it. It worked. So from time to time we'll watch it on TV and a few years ago it was on so we decided to view it. Unknown to me, they had included a cut scene... the one of the little girl going down the stairs like a spider!! :scared1: Man oh man, that totally freaked us all out. The Exorcist is truly a fear factor masterpiece.

I don't know why some people find horror movies scary, as for the most part, I don't find them scary at all. And, while I have not seen all the movies listed, the ones I did see, I certainly didn't find scary. Indeed, if I restrict myself to horror films, here are seven horror films I find far more scary then those listed.

Atomic Submarine
The first appearance of the Cyclops. An off my chair and hide behind it moment.

Brotherhood of the Wolf
The first appearance of the Monster

The Fly (the original, not the remake)
When Patricia Owens pulls the sack off of Al (David) Hedison's head to first reveal what is there. Another off my chair and cower down on the floor among the spilled jujubes moment.

Freaks
The freaks crawling through the mud, through the rain with knifes clutched in their teeth and murder in their eyes, towards the circus strongman. It almost makes you sorry for the man.

The Haunted Mansion
When the zombies first come alive and attack Eddie Murphy.

Lair of the White Worm
Seeing the boy scout, standing by the side of the road, trying to thumb a ride in the rain, and knowing what is going to happen to the poor kid. I won't give away what happens to him, but it's not good.

6th Sense
When Joel Haley Osment gets up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, and he is standing there in the bathroom, and the ghost walks right past him.

But, none of these are as scary as the scariest movie I have ever seen, and it is not a horror movie. It is "The Village," which is five times scarier then anyother movie I have ever seen.

I haven't seen The Village yet so I can't agree/disagree with you. And, that scene in the 6th Sense was scary as well as other parts of the movie, but I'm not quite following you. You said in the beginning that you don't find scary movies scary but then list other movies that are scary. My question is out of the movies that have been listed (Exorcist, Jaws, Shining, etc)which ones aren't scarier than the Haunted Mansion?

I'm a little confused by TexasKid as well. Haunted Mansion was scarier than the Exorcist? And I've seen the Village and I found it more suspenseful than frightening.

Too each his own, of course.
