I don't know why some people find horror movies scary, as for the most part, I don't find them scary at all. And, while I have not seen all the movies listed, the ones I did see, I certainly didn't find scary. Indeed, if I restrict myself to horror films, here are seven horror films I find far more scary then those listed.
Atomic Submarine
The first appearance of the Cyclops. An off my chair and hide behind it moment.
Brotherhood of the Wolf
The first appearance of the Monster
The Fly (the original, not the remake)
When Patricia Owens pulls the sack off of Al (David) Hedison's head to first reveal what is there. Another off my chair and cower down on the floor among the spilled jujubes moment.
Freaks
The freaks crawling through the mud, through the rain with knifes clutched in their teeth and murder in their eyes, towards the circus strongman. It almost makes you sorry for the man.
The Haunted Mansion
When the zombies first come alive and attack Eddie Murphy.
Lair of the White Worm
Seeing the boy scout, standing by the side of the road, trying to thumb a ride in the rain, and knowing what is going to happen to the poor kid. I won't give away what happens to him, but it's not good.
6th Sense
When Joel Haley Osment gets up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, and he is standing there in the bathroom, and the ghost walks right past him.
But, none of these are as scary as the scariest movie I have ever seen, and it is not a horror movie. It is "The Village," which is five times scarier then anyother movie I have ever seen.
