Why Won't Disney Switch to Drone Shows?

The problem is they would probably have to look at engaging an outside company to get them up and running. I would love for them to surprise us with something new!
In Paris they were done by an outside contractor, not sure if they went with their own system now that it’s part of the daily evening show, they might have their own.

The biggest issue in Anaheim is that you need quite a large area for them to start from. In one of the „we call it imagineering“ YouTube videos, you can see the Paris drone field.

OMG, if they tried that the outrage would be over the top. Please understand the disney fan

If they can bring back Magic Journeys and Captain EO, Disney can bring back MuppetVision and It’s Tough to Be A Disney Adult… err Bug.

In al seriousness, drones will happen. Maybe at first they’ll supplement the fireworks.

WDW has 28,000 acres. Plenty of room and the airport is 19 miles away. Disneyland Paris has 5,200 acres and is 20 miles east of Paris. There is plenty of room for drones and no nearby airports. Disneyland is in densely populated Orange County and about 12 miles away from a mid-sized airport and there are residential areas surrounding the Resort property. Security, flights and population make drones tricky for Disneyland.

They do a Christmas drone show in downtown DENVER, a iarge metro area with plenty of high rises. Drones don't fly that high so no, I don't think SNA is threatened.
But it's a moot point because Disney will do what Disney wants, when it wants as they have proved so many times. When fireworks become cost prohibitive...that will be the end of it.

Please, please Disney...join this century and do away with all the NOISE and POLLUTION... certainly you have the knowledge, know how and creativity to do it...yes, yes, you'd have to sell your fireworks factory in China or wherever...but it would be so much better all around...
As long as music doesn't count as noise, I'm all in. I care about pretty lights in the sky synchronized to music. I actually think Disney would be able to do next level amazing stuff with a drone show.

@DizMe-If you are old enough to remember Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, than you are probably close in age to my father. When he was growing up his father (my grandfather) was a doctor. Almost every 4th of July someone would come find him because some type of backyard fireworks/sparklers/other pyro type stuff went horribly wrong and there was an injury.

Oh, no...music doesn't count as noise..I just watched a fireworks show a couple of weeks ago at the Iowa State Fair...NO MUSIC!!! Just BANG BANG BANG WHISTLE and it was the weirdest experience! I feel sorry for folks who have never seen a beautifully coordinated fireworks display at Disney...the music makes the show! I think my fave was"Sorcery in the Sky" at MGM Studios way back in the day...the giant Sorceror Mickey came up over the Great Movie Ride building. Plus it had a great Star Wars segment, Indy, too I believe.

With the increase in drone shows everywhere I too have wondered why Disney has not implemented them more in their parks. It is a one-time purchase whereas fireworks are a constant purchase for them. I once read somewhere that Disney is the largest consumer of fireworks in the world, but I don’t have a source for that fun fact.

To tag onto previous mentions on this thread, security of the drone programming would be an issue so that no one could interfere with the show or jam the signals. No one wants drones falling out of the sky! And as @NotUrsula mentioned, the drones that are used by the military are quite larger than show drones. For those inclined, here is a cool video about the holiday drone show in Denver. Disney really does need to catch a clue and develop something amazing, as I’m sure they would, but we all know how slow Disney is with anything new!
