Scary Books

It by Stephen King is my choice for scariest book. I think it was the whole clown thing. Plus the fact that I was scared for a long time to bend down too close to the drain in the sink.

the killing of bonnie garland. it was a book about the girl in the late 70's who was murdered by her boyfriend. i had to read it for my sociology class in college. that book made me sick, i almost threw up reading it on a bus, my face turned ghostly white and i almost passed out.

i really like patricia cornwell's books. her kay scarpetta series. they can be quite frightening at some points.

We (they) decided on The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. It is short, so that is what made them decide it. Oh well. I have been wanting to read this for years, so it's ok. As I said, I am going to be reading a lot of these.

The Haunting of Hill House is not that scary IMO (even though an excellent piece of work) but is an great jumping off point for a truly scary movie. Read it and then watch the original version of The Haunting if you never have. Great stuff!!!

I love Stephen King and collect all his books but this one. It really scared me!! I actually threw the book away and I have never thrown a book away.

My kids always tease me about it.

Shamefully, I have to admit that I couldn't finish this book either. I saw the movie in 3rd grade and it scared the *&#$ out of me! So when I started reading the book a couple of years later my nightmares came back, just couldn't deal with it. I do think I will try to read it again though. Hmmm, maybe I'll try it this month for Halloween.

I vote for The Shining, while I love the original movie (Jack Nicholson was just over the top in this!), the book was better. "It" was probably the scariest to me because I am afraid of clowns (yes, even now as an adult I am still scared of clowns).

YES!! I said that to them! I have heard that the original movie is great. I hope it is just a good read at this point. I guess I'll have to read a few scary books by me lonesome!

That's a good choice, very good story. A little mild too so those that may not normally enjoy scary should be okay with it.

IT by Stephen King is one of the scariest books I have ever read.

I am scared of popping balloons, clowns, clowns with balloons. I forgot about the drain. Good thing I already took a shower. And the fortune cookies.

So sorry to remind everyone about the evil drains in It! I read a lot of scarey books and don't usually get freaked out in real life by them but sometimes, even though it's many years later, when I bend down to wash my face in the sink and my hair is hanging down close to the drain....I get a little shiver and jump back quickly!
