There are only two emotions in a plane: boredom and terror. ~Orson Welles
Wow! I can definitely relate to the stress of flying. I am in a state of near panic from the time that I see the airport until the time that I land at my destination. I thoroughly agree with those who suggest a bit of medication. For me, it does take the edge off of my fear but it does not make me a drooling idiot. Trust me, your drug induced calm will rapidly evaporate if there is any need to be alarmed. Turbulence is an issue for me. One thing that helps is an analogy that a pilot made comparing a plane in turbulence to a piece of fruit in a cup of jello. No matter how much you shake that jello, the fruit is not going to fall to the bottom of the cup. Likewise, the plane may shake in the sky but it is not going to fall out of the sky. We had turbulence on a recent flight to Mexico which alarmed my three year old a bit. We pretended that we were bouncing through the Hundred Acre Wood which helped me.
