Scared & need your thoughts -DD is getting notes

Ok I got an email back from one of my friends. He is a screenwriter and director for both film and theatre. His SAT scores were so high he was accused of cheating, etc etc. He's just that guy that you want on your trivia team.

Here's his message:
I got nothing specific but "the world of men" is a really strong Tolkein phrase, and the two taken togehter sounds like goblins or orcs hiding in the ground and preying on people's fears... some's spent a little too much time with their Dungeons and Dragons

So what the 'new' version of D&D. Magic the Gathering? 4th Graders do that, maybe?

How would a child in school have seen your DD bike riding outside of school? That's what leads me to believe that it may not be a child. I have a 9 yr. old DD and I cannot imagine anyone her age doing something like this. If it is a child they are definitely sick.

Hi, thought I would post this to see if anyone can give me some insite on this

My Daughter (9- grade 4) is getting notes taped to her backpack and in her backpack. Two of them were found on Thursday while the class was away skating.

Here's what they said:
Note 1 that was in her backpack:(she had been bike riding with her dad the other day)

I have seen you bike-riding yesterday do not think you can keep your secrets away from me
Identified as N

Note 2:
We are hidden from the world of men hunting those we dislike

On Friday afetr school was let out another note was found:

From the depths of the earth's crust, we want to fulfill our duties, we must. Like fire we gobble down trust and belief on danger we choke or misfortune we feast.

These are scaring the wits outa me.
The principal has done handwriting samples on her class and the teachers down ther hall from her classromm know whats happening. She is not to be left by herself.
They have been looking into the notes as they look very poetic. Chloe does go to Karate and her Sensei suggested that the words came from some video game.
Any idea's were these words are from???
Sounds like this person (as one teacher put it) is very twisted.

They do sound poetic but not the type that should be used in actually threats. It does sound like its from a magazine (Havent read the board yet)

Heres an idea. Have someone 'Spy' on the back pack and then you will see who is writing the notes.

Do the kids know why they are being handwriting tested. Could it be possible one just wrote differently for the test?

I agree with the ..."My daughter's not going to school" camp. I am also with "the go directly to a police station" with all the evidence, and get it tested. A school laison officer should be informed, but you need reports on file. I would handle this differently. Good Luck.

Something just isn't adding up with this whole thing. If the school is aware of the problem then how did 2 more notes end up in the backpack? Where was the backpack when the notes were put in it? In the classroom? Where was the teacher and other students at while this happened? Did another teacher report that their student had left class during the time the 2 notes were placed in her backback? Why don't you call the police instead of going through the school? Someone threatend your daughter with DEATH and you don't see that as something that needs to be brought to the police like YESTERDAY? :confused3

I'm really scratching my head on this one because none of it makes sense. If someone threatened my son with death he would be at home with me and the police would be notified by me walking into the station IMMEDIATELY.

Been following this thread and my dh has a few ideas on those quotes. Something about them strikes him as being from the movie Time Machine, particularly in the scene where the lead guy talks to the head Morlock. He's not positive that's where it came from but for some reason he thinks it might be.

Another idea is that it comes from some type of dungeons and dragons ideology along the lines of the Drow race which are the dark elves that live in the earth.

Sure hope they get to the bottom of it soon, it is truly scary.

Was the death threat in more of the strange poetic language? And I agree, where was the backpack when the new notes were put in it?

I don't understand why the school didn't have someone monitoring the backpack!

I did not read this whole thread because frankly it was scaring me and I was hoping that when I got to the end there would be a happy resolution. I do not know if anyone has suggested this or even if it is possible but couldn't they put an exploding dye pack in her back pack(police) so that who ever is doing it would be singled out? if they can do it in banks they I do not see why they cannot do it here.

This is a nightmare that I have had many times about my kids. I teach grade 4 and this is WAY too sophisticated for these kids unless you have a really unbalanced child who is very bright.
I have had a few manic depresssive very sick students and I think that they are capable of something like this but your average grade four student would not do it. Most likely it would say things like, " you are a jerk and I hate you" very juvinile and age appropriate. This is not the work of an age appropriate kid.

Hi
It's been a long day.....

DH and I were in the office this morning with the principal and made some demands:
1) All the remaining school staff will be informed of the incidents (ie the
Notes found) in a manner that protects the identification of individuals, to
encourage the reporting of anomalous activities.

2) The Police Liaison will be contacted about the notes, and classroom
visits to all Grade 4's and 5's will be arranged to ensure all children
understand the implications of performing acts such as this.

3) You will arrange to have a copy of the Police Reporting Protocol
delivered to me. (you can send an electronic version to the email address
above if you wish)

At 2:30 this afternon I got a call from the principal that DD got 2 more notes , one which said You will die.

The police are meeting us at the school tomorrow morning. I am literally shaking.

I need big hugs from you guys.................... :grouphug:

I cannot believe this is happening to you and your DD. I'm so sorry. Please be careful. :grouphug: :grouphug:

Yikes, this is very scary. But it also seems that its being handled in a bizarre way...why the hesitancy in marching directly to the police station? Why "hiding" the backpack when that is probably the best way to discover who is doing this??

I truly hope it is "nothing" but a prank. My kids would not be going to school or leaving my side until something definite was found out.

Like the other posters I am so sorry you and your family are going through this. It is a very scary situation and I hope it gets resolved asap. :grouphug:

You need to contact the police. The school officer and the school contacting that officer will not give you the protection you need.

Yes, that is what I thought too. The words are too sophisticated to belong to a fourth grader unless, as you mentioned it is a child that is exceptionally bright, but mentally unbalanced. Even that would be a stretch. The person was very calculating if they were able to slip two notes in undetected after peoples guard was already up. Seems way too calculating for a child to concoct and pull off. Children tend to leave loose ends and not that calculated unless they are very, very emotionally disturbed.

We had a similar incident years ago with my brother's kids. They where threatened with notes that were sent to their home, including mention of death threats and threats to attack the children at school. It turned out to be a malicious family member who was behind it all. This family member personally had it in for my brother (not his kids) but threatened the children to get at my brother. This family member also had mental illness (Bi-Polar disorder). Fortunately my brother was a prosecuting lawyer at the time and had excellent connections and relationships with the local police. They uncovered the source of the threat very quickly (figured out it was a family member)and took immediate action.

As a teacher, and with all the other responsibilities and students I am in charge of - this would be far too important for me to handle. I am not incapable, I just would not want the added duty of watching and protecting this child while trying to afford all my other students the same protection!!!
All the suggestions of contacting the police appear to be the best advice. In that case, I would feel much more comfortable working "with" others.

What does your dd make of it all? Has she explained why this may be happening or has reason to believe she has an enemy?

Then again anyone can be crazy...
