Hi All, I haven't been here a lot lately. I moved at the end of Feb. and then started a job where my hours keep changing (at the mall). I haven't been able to get all my supplies reorganized and my photos got all messed up too. I need suggestions on how to tackle everything and make progress. How do you organize your photos and new hubby's (his pile of boxes are almost as big as mine). His parents are selling his childhood home and keep giving him his stuff they find in the attic.

where do you store your photos
do you purge as you clean them out
how do you separate them

Please help me to get organized so I can scrap again.

Thanks, Pam

It sounds like you have more than what I would normally do, as I normally use just an expandable file (made for pictures) that has dividers in it. With that many though, I'd go for those picture boxes...Make categories like yours before you met, his before you met, after you met but before you were married, after you were married, maybe some for family heritage pics from before you guys were born? Sounds like he may be getting some of those...HTH!! After you get down to these categories, you can further divide into individual events, themes (for me those are things like football games, formal events, cheerleading, etc...you can tell I'm a college student!)

And yes, I would purge as I sorted, but if there was any doubt, I would keep it...and if you find some you want to keep but not scrapbook, I'd put them in their own box also.

To sort your "stuff" if you need to do that, I'd get a good quality scrapbook bag (mine is the Create a Bag from Generations that is exclusive to Michael's) that is the size you need, watch for the 40% off coupon, and sort your stuff into that, which helps a lot. I scrapbook a lot more now that I have all my stuff where I can find it easily and keep it from being too "messy." I can also take it to crops, etc.

That is the first question I'd ask. And go from there depending on the answer.

I want my photos viewable. So they are in albums. If you do then pick up the pocket type albums whenever your local discount store has them on sale. Mine are sorted in these (I admit some were put in LONG before we knew about acid, etc and are actually in magnetic type albums) by my childhood, camp, and so forth. Then I have a book of his and some heritage stuff. From our wedding on they are essentially chronological. I try to use approximately the same size book that are 3 ring binder type so that as I scrap something I can pull the photos out of the pockets and then move the pages around and reuse the now empty ones.

If you don't want them easily viewable then I'd vote for the photo boxes with perhaps a larger plastic storage or accordian style for bigger than snaps.

I have a TON of photos and I needed a way to store them before I could scrap them. At first I used those photo boxes I bought at A.C. Moore but then I ended up with a ton of those. Just recently I found something at Wal-Mart that works for me.

I sort my photos by the month and then put them in envelopes with the month and year written in the corner. Then I store these, in order, in my new storage containers.

They are made by Rubbermaid and I found them in the same section with all the plastic storage boxers.

Keepsake - photo and media box. Acid free photo safe container. It is supposed to hold 30 of those packages your photos come in. Measurments are - 1.52ft x 9in x6.75in - looks like a very long shoe box.

I have 6 of these (2 are not filled yet but I'm working on it!) and they work out great!

I am not sure if that is what you are looking for, but maybe the next time you are in Wal-Mart you can check them out.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I guess I jus really have to bite the bullet and get started. i like the shoe box idea, I'm going to Michael's today, I'll have to see what they have there that might help. (I have to get my wedding picture framed). I'll let everyone know what i come up with.

As for the scrapbok stuff, I think the problem is I have too much stuff, but after reading this, I have a few ideas to get it started.

Thanks everyone!!
