I am so mad at myself! I've had a major shopping expedition planned for 2 weeks to get ready for our cruise. Translation - to get DH & kids ready for cruise. DH rarely buys new clothes, and since we've been losing weight together needed a bunch. Typical kids had nothing left from last year for summer. I made the lists, made sure everyone had sox/shoes for fittings - or at least knew what we didn't have.

Since we are going on a 7 day DD needed something for formal night (she had already informed us she planned on a gown since at 13 she is expected to dress as the adults). Well needless to say she found one, and did I have a camera handy? Of course not! I keep several disposable cameras in the house all the time so I can toss one to DH or kids to take to events when I won't be around with my good camera, or when I don't want to take my good one. Did I toss one in my purse? No!

So I can see in my mind the spread I WON'T be scarpping - the trying on, the fitting for alterations, etc. Her first formal and I missed it!

Deb,

I feel your pain. I have been there many times. I keep thinking I should keep a disposible in my purse, but my DH already thinks I am nuts. I do not need to give him more ammo.

Thanks for the idea on the GS IPP. Can you e-mail me the rest of the info. I think this would be great to do with my girls this summer.

Oh don't you hate that!!!!!!!?!?! well at least you can do a small journalling square to tell about the event! Have a great time on your cruise and congrats on the weight loss!

Thanks for letting me vent ladies.

Sue - I have the file on my computer at school so I'll send that to you from there tomorrow. I'm really starting to think about keeping a disposable in my purse. Actually, one of the photogs for the paper is a friend of ours and when I took one of his classes he suggested keeping your regular camera with you all the time - storing it in one of those foam coolers in your car to keep it from getting too hot or too cold. Not ready to go that far!

Spinning - thanks! So far I've taken off 75 pounds (35 since the end of January - the first 40 were slower). I did buy my formal gown and a really wonderful cocktail dress yesterday but am holding on the shorts, etc. for a little while yet in the hopes I can get one more size off! Thanks for the journalling idea too. I hadn't thought of that. I think that I'll have her put it on when it gets here so that at least I can take that for her book. Naturally we'll have formals portraits done on the cruise.

I am always caught without a camera and I keep saying I am going to throw a disposable in my purse-- but lately I have been thinking about getting one of those cell phones that have a small camera in it! I am almost positive you can email the photos to yourself to put on disk or print, and I think you can even buy one with a Disney package (i.e. Disney ringtones and graphics). I KNOW I won't forget my cell phone, so my camera will always be with me too!

I have missed so many opportunities this year because I just didn't THINK about it...dd's performances in several concerts. Receiving awards. Trying on the formals--darn, I never THOUGHT of that one, either.

I'm gonna buy a ton of film and just tote that darn camera around.

I've just about decided to toss a disposable in my purse because you just never know when something will pop up.

Funny thing is just a week ago I had my "big" camera in my purse when I went to the mall because I was specifically heading for the camera store and caught some of my daughters friends (4 of them) piled into one of those photo booths. Just picked that roll of film up and it is a wonderful candid!

Oh well, if missing this set of shots is the worst that happens in life it can't be too bad.

I always have my camera or at least a disposable one in my purse. Sat. DD, Dh and I went to a football scrimmage. I really wasn't planning to take any pics, but my camera was in there anyway. In the past, I have taken my camera to EVERY football game and taken pictures and NEVER had a problem. Well of course with increased security they were checking everyone's purse. My camera was in there and they're like "You can't take this in..." I tried to explain that I didn't realize it was in there, nor did I realize I couldn't bring it in because I always have before...etc...They said, "well you'll either have to take it back to your car or get rid of it." Like I'm just going to throw my camera away (Obviously these folks weren't scrapbookers...I'm not even thinking about the camera, I'm thinking about what's on the film that's in the camera--pictures of DD!!) I wasn't about to walk back to my car (too far and my feet hurt too bad) Finally I convinced them to let me take the batteries out and throw them away and keep my camera. I wasn't very happy about the entire situation. Makes me want to get that cell phone camera too :)

Why in the world couldn't you take a camera into a football game? That doesn't even make sense. My DS plays football and if some security goon told me I couldn't take pictures we'd have a major issue! I carry a complete camera bag with multiple lenses, etc. into our football stadium.

Deb-

I know...I wasn't too happy about it. If they even knew pictures were my life :) I can't imagine why they wouldn't let me take my camera. I've done it forever.

Candi, you can't take cameras to the OU games anymore? I'm glad I read this! I've taken mine lots of times, too. Our seats are in the upper deck and I love to take pictures at half-time of the band.

I try to carry a disposable in my purse most of the time. It's good to have the camera when the moment arises.

I recently read that cameras are being banned at most stadium events b/c of the chances that someone might fit some kind of bomb into a camera and leave it behind somewhere. W/the fear of terrorism, sounds like the stadium officials want to be safe. Can't say that I blame them ... who knows what some wack-o is going to do!?

I fortunately did not miss the opportunity to take pictures when my niece asked me to help her pick out her senior prom gown. I absent-minded grabbed the disposable that is always in my car. She asked what the camera was for and I said so we can capture the "good, bad, and the ugly". She kept telling me no pictures until she tried on a dress that was absolutely gorgeous on the hanger. Before she even opened the dressing room door, she told me to get the camera ready because it wasn't "good, bad, or ugly, it was worse". She was right and we had a great laugh of how something so beautiful on the hanger could look so ugly on. We did get some really silly pictures and had a great time.

When I go some where and am not sure if I can take a camera in, I take a new disposible so I can just toss it if necessary. I stock up when I can the buy one get one deals.

Oh great! The aunt gets the picture and the mom misses it. Now I am really sad about this.

Ok, enough - on to the next major "trauma"...like is DH actually taking pictures of DS's FIRST tennis match while I'm getting ready to head for a night class?

Deb

I'm sorry Deb - didn't mean to make you feel bad. I was just glad to find someone else who thinks "the ordinary" things in life are important to scrap too. My sister thought I was crazy to bring the camera along (until she saw my niece in the dress). She just thought getting pictures the night of the prom would be enough. I plan to sneak in on my niece's hair appointment and make-up session too. Maybe you can get a few pictures of your daughter getting ready.

MerryPoppins-

I don't know if it was just because it was scrimmage or what. What'll I do?? I have albums of every football season!! I'll be sure to find out before football season starts. Funny thing is once we got inside there, people were running around with cameras taking pictures and getting autographs b/c Toby Keith, Barry and all of the alumni were there. Dont know why they had to pick on me :)

Candi

Aunties - it wasn't that bad! And I plan to have the camera ready to go when the dress arrives (the department store where we purchased it does free alterations and then ships it if you like. I do , we're an hour away!) and have her try it on. And of course I'll take pics when she is getting ready.

I know there will be lots of proms and formal dances to go - just the first one.

Candi, I agree on the football season thing! I can't imaging doing so many things without my camera. At least at the High School level I have enough "pull" with the coach to get a press pass if it should come to that!
