Hello! I'm new to Scrapbooking and I have a question for the vets and newbies alike! My question is how many of you have taken classes in Scrapbooking? If you took classes were they helpful? Where did you take them? Any info would be greatly appreciated! I'm very excited about getting started but I'm also somewhat apprehensive so I wondered whether classes would be worth the time/money. Thanks in advance!

I have taken a creative lettering class-I found it very helpful, gave me more confidence to do my own journalling and lettering-also got a ton of good ideas!
I took a chalking class-loved this as I find it really adds dimension to your work, until I took the class I was a bit hesitant to try it and buy the chalks- now I use them quite a bit!
I also took a disney ideas class-basically just a class on how you can do different layouts with a disney theme.
I wish that when I first started out I would have taken a scrapbooking 101-but I figured things out on my own-there are tons of great websites I got info from.
So I think that if there is a class that interests you that you should go for it!

I second what Grover said.
I didn't take a class and sure wish I had. Just because it is an expensive and addicitive hobby. I did go to a CM work shop which was wonderful and everyone gave me lots of advice and ideas.
I also feel you need to really spend time looking to see what style suits you best and a class can give you ideas and information

I have gone to one class on lettering. The class was good, but I think I learn more from going to crops at LSS. Everyone there shares their books and ideas.

I'm pretty new to scrapbooking myself and don't have a lot of time to spend doing it, so I'm not a pro.

I took a CM class and it was wonderful. I have decided to use only CM products (personal decision), since I'm spending so much time and money, I want the guarantee that many years down the road, hopefully, my great-great grandchildren will be able to enjoy it.

Even more helpful than the class are the "Crops" that my CM Consultant holds every other Friday. She usually has about 25 women at the Crops and we can look at each other's books for ideas, chat and just get out of the house!

Thanks for the comments everyone! I've decided I'm definitly going to take a class or two. Now I just need to figure out which one!

I love to take classes at my LSS! I really enjoy these a lot more than the CM classes, mainly because they teach the new techniques and how to use all the fun embellishements that are soooo popular in scrapbooking now! The classes help me stay up with the new products that are out there, as well as help me to make some completed pages to take home! I like crops too, but at the classes I usually learn at least one new thing and that one thing usually sparks my creativity when I get home to my own projects!

I am a new scrapper, and took an intro to scrapbooking class at the local "JoAnn ETC" store. It was fairly basic class, covered the tools you should start with and we completed a page in the class. I will probably take more advanced classes at the LSS I have been frequenting since I got hooked as I progress in this obsession, err I mean HOBBY ;)

Mike, Once you get comfortable with scrapping, you should suggest to your LSS owner about having you teach a men's class. We have men coming in all the time looking for help. We had one man come in wanting to make an anniversary page for his girlfriend. (sweet).

There is a man in our LSS that made an album for his wife's birthday! He came to crops occasionally and let everyone see his work--he outdid most of the ladies there! He got pictures from his wife's family of her as a little girl, and went on through their marriage (just a few pictures of each stage of life). He said he knew she would appreciate all the thought and work that went into the album! soooo sweet!:)

JeanneNY,

I tried to reply to your PM, but your settings are set to NOT allow PMs to be sent to you.

JoAnns ETC (Experience The Creativity) are Joann's bigger stores, more creativity stuff (hence the name ;) )

There are two scrapbook stores here in Rochester that I have been to. The one was OK, the other is Scrapbook Creations and I have bought many items there already. They are in Perinton Square mall. If you want directions I can give you some in PM if you change your settings.
