The official disney web site now says:

"Astro Orbiter will not be operating December 20 - March 12, 2005 however we recommend Magic Carpets of Aladdin as an alternative during this time."

For our January trip I'd gotten used to the idea of:
no small world
no dumbo
no CRT
no land pavillion
... but now no astro orbitor either?

Can any one just back confirm that astro orbitoer has one into rehab?

Thanks

I can't lie to you, I'm not a big astro orbiter fan, but I can share your feelings on the other closed attractions.

Everything has to have a time for rehab at some point when a park is open 365 days a year. Must be time for Astro Orbiter! Aladdin's Magic Carpets were just rehabbed in the fall. They try to do most of the rehabs during slower times in the parks. So if you come at a slower time, you may not encounter the crowds, but you will have the closures due to rehab.

We are just back from WDW and Astro Orbitor is closed. It really looks like it needs a total rehab so it's probably a good thing!

I saw somewhere that there was a safety problem on Astro Orbiter. Something about a passenger who did something "stupid" now they have to add additional restraints.

Thanks for the info. It's not the end of the world, but I think it is a cool ride.

What upset me is that they had been listing the astro orbiter rehab as starting in late January, and then all of a sudden the date was switched to Dec 20. If it was an issue with the restraint then I undestand the unexpected change.

I think all of the recent changes are stressing me out. The new park passes, the ever changing schedule for EMH, and the ever changing list of rehabs. I just want this to be a great trip and don't want anymore unexpected changes. To make matters worse we are staying at shades of green, and I have no idea what tickets/prices they will be offering in January, and whether or not they will participate in EMH.

DH asked about Astro Orbitor the other day. According to the CM he spoke with, a part broke and they need to bring in heavy duty cranes to fix it. They have removed the part and are in the process of fixing it.

is the whole land pavillion going to be closed? meaning we can't eat there either?

That's right, the whole pavillion will be closed including The Garden grill and the food court.

I heard a rumor (unconfirmed) that they will be getting rid of the food court.

We rode AO for the first time on Dec. 17th during MVMCP. We went back on the 19th and was told it was closed. I really liked the view and it was better than STITCH!

COP was open so we did that instead.

We did it for the first time 2 weeks ago. I loved the view but admit i got a bit queasy around the curves. Kids could take it or leave it. They prefer the Magic Carpets!

My son was disappointed not to go on it. We didn't know prior to the trip that it would be closed..............

I don't know if this should be a seperate post, but I'm curious. Does Disney ever finish a rehab early and open before the planned opening?

Over at Mouseplanet they state that AstroOrbiter was scheduled for rehab toward the end of Jan. to replace bearings but that the bearings gave out so the ride went down for rehab now.
