Say it ain't so... Disney banished the wooden gun??

I know my son bought a toy gun at WDW last fall, not sure what it was made out of. If the wooden guns aren't available there might only be capitalism to blame. I'm sure mass produced, Chinese, plastic guns have a much higher profit margin for Disney.

I am almost positive the POTC store still had wooden guns when I was there in December. At least the rifle kind. There was at least one rack toward the front of the store. I got smacked with one (not on purpose) and I was thinking how annoying it was :rolleyes1

I'm going back Saturday, I'm definitely going to check it out. Maybe I'm getting old and making things up...

We were there in Oct. and purchased one at the giftshop right outside of Indiana Jones. We are headed back in a few weeks, I'll make a point to look for them at other places to see if they are around. :)

ok ... reminder we are looking for the classic wooden disney guns.... not plastic, not red n green, anyone seen one recently? they are 100% not outside the POTC ride exit... they used to b but was told they r gone... any pictures? locations? wooden gun we miss you lol

They are still wooden but they are painted now.

We have about 5 different versions at the house. Even bought some old 25 year old ones off Ebay from someone that got theirs at Disneyland.

They started painting them 3 years ago or so. We were disappointed. I anticipated that they would shortly be removed after that but they are still there. My son and I make a point of playing with them and hiding from each other, than coming up from behind on each at the large POTC store each visit.

I plan to do it again in 58 days. I usually have a rifle, pistol in pocket, maybe a sword or two. We get looks at the store but we have fun.

They 100% were outside POTC in MK last week. The wooden ones. I know because my DD wanted one.
I didn't take a photo...but maybe if you ask Josh at EasyWDW, he can grab a shot for you next time he's over that way.

California gun laws shape the entire country... they started the ban on tech 9s, hallow point rounds, fully auto ext.. I just never though anyone would ban something as innocent as a wooden toy that millions of kids grew up w. 1st river country closes, now this... :-( 2 memories that can't be replicated

:lmao:

A law in California has NO BEARING on Florida. If Florida has a similar law, then that's fine, but if not then the law in CA does not apply to FL.

I have seen these recently too. They were in a shop near the shooting gallery in Frontier Land.

Good luck!

I know they had them on April 3rd, because the kid sitting next to us at the parade had one and he quite enjoyed showing off. But he was very respectful with it.

If nothing else, try the Once Upon a Toy and World of Disney stores at DTD. I'm pretty sure they had some at Once Upon a Toy in a room with a bunch of POTC stuff last time I was there.

I didn't see them in a park, but I wasn't looking for them either. I did see them in the Fort Wilderness store, because my daughter, who was 10, picked one up and pointed it at me and the woman working there seemed like she was about to have a heart attack. She then yelled at my daughter. :confused3

This was in February of this year.

Perhaps because pointing a weapon, even a fake one, at a person can be seen as a sign of aggression by some people? Not all people think this way, but I don't like it when kids pretend to shoot at me.

Exactly. It seems pretty self-explanatory. I'm not anti-gun by any means but it would certainly upset me if my children thought that it was ok to "shoot" at another person, whether it was pretend or real.

As far as the CM yelling at your daughter, well that's obviously unacceptable.

Actually, California laws have more bearing on other states than you would think.

The main reason is because it is a huge state, and a huge market share. In the case of these guns and Disney, if they can not sell them in Cali they might not be profitable enough in just Florida to justify still selling them.

When California makes laws they often affect all of us. In Cali young children's pjs have to be fire retardant, so now almost all pjs are. Most companies don't want to bother making two batches.

Another major example is textbooks. Cali often makes laws about certain things they can and can not have in their textbooks. They are a huge market share, so the companies can't afford to not sell there, and so change the textbooks for the entire country. This is a big part of why you will see people form outside states get more involved in Cali politics than some most other states. And, hence the expression, as goes California, so goes the country.

The only banning of guns I remember at WDW was (not to get the FF riled up) the Musket Mickey.

I don't recall seeing brown wooden guns recently, but I'm long past the days of looking at toy guns.

Didn't the orange tip on play guns start because some idiot actually shot a movie person with the real deal because they didn't know it wasnt a toy?

Sorry--just responding to you and the person who quoted you. I am not a moron. If it was some random child who came up to me with a fake gun and pointed it at me, yes, I would be bothered. But, it was my ten year old daughter. She has never owned a gun in her life and I should have clarified it a little better. She did not say, "Bang, you're dead" or any form of that. So, I should say that she pointed it at me, but did not pretend to shoot me. She is not aggressive in any way, shape or form.

Do not talk down to me and act like I'm stupid. I was not questioning being upset that a child was holding a gun at someone. I was questioning her right to yell at my child. That is MY job and unless my daughter is pointing a gun at someone else, I will take care of it. Get over your snark and worry about someone else's post on here--oh, and that goes to the others who quoted you as well. I want less drama in my life, but I guess you need more. What a pity. :goodvibes

Actually, Texas runs the textbook market, not California. They do sell different versions of textbooks. I had to read through a bunch of them when I was the Chemistry lab aide for a high school. Talk about tedious...

I've been relieved to be able to find products that have been banned in California readily available online. Since it's a much more global market, California has lost its paranoid hold on some items.

Of course, I live right next to New Hampshire, the state where you can buy alcohol, fireworks, and guns in the same store, namely, WalMart! (Well, not the heavy duty fireworks!)

I bought one of the wooden rifles at a stand in Liberty Square for my ds10 last August. It looks just like the one in the picture posted above. My family seems to remember that there was a wooden pistol available too. They are brightly colored, but that didn't bother my ds in the least. It's a well loved item in his arsenal of play weapons. :rolleyes2

Please keep to the topic in hand e.g. are wooden guns available at Magic Kingdom.

Any off topic comments about California and the law will be removed.

My son does mind the bright colored ones and that's all we saw last trip. Is there any place you can still find the brown rifles?
