Just a wee question, really for UK brides.

In my wedding info pack Disney have recommended a company called Say I Do Weddings inc that offer a service to help you apply for your wedding licence, just wondering is anyone on here has used them and how you got on?

Would love some feedback on this as we are from Scotland and are not able to go to the local courthouse before the wedding (as we arrive in Florida on a Holiday weekend!)

Thanks in advance

Kirsty

Say I Do Weddings is a company that will charge you $100 to do what you can do yourself for free, namely, send away for a marriage license. All the forms necessary are provided online by Brevard County Florida, and the amount of mailing back and forth, plus the hassle of getting the forms notarized, is identical whether you DIY or pay Say I Do.

Here is the link to the Brevard County form: http://199.241.8.125/_files/forms/MarriageLicenseInternetInformation.pdf

And the website: http://199.241.8.125/index.cfm?FuseAction=MarriageLicenses.Home

You simply download and fill out the form, send it in, and then receive a form in the mail that you must sign in front of a notary public (apparently these are not as thick on the ground in the UK, but they do exist). The notary will affix his/her seal to the paperwork, and you will send it back with the $93.50 fee charged by the State of Florida for issuing a marriage license. The state will not send you the actual license until you are within 60 days of your wedding—if you're worried about travel time, you might include a note with the form explaining that extra time is needed for you to receive the form in the UK before you leave for your holiday.

At least one UK bride on this board has sent away for her own license from Brevard County—hopefully she'll drop in and share her positive experience. :goodvibes

LurkyLoo thank you very much for that info, I was wondering about the price since I could probably do it myself! So am I right in saying that everything can be done via post and once we arrive for our wedding there is nothing else to do in Florida?

Thanks again

Correct—you will be mailed the license, so you won't need to do anything once you get to Florida except hand it over to your officiant. Just be sure you leave plenty of time for mailing back and forth to the UK. :thumbsup2

Thanks again Lurkyloo!

Our pastor from home is travelling with us and I was concerned he would have to do something after the wedding!

Ok, im officially excited now after getting your advice and you have saved me extra pennies too! Us Scots like a bargain ha!

Traditionally it's your pastor's job to send back the license, but since you will probably be more familiar with all this stuff than he is, you can just mail it yourself while still in the States. I *think* Brevard even includes a pre-addressed envelope, but if not, your hotel concierge should be able to hook you up.

I did mine direct with Brevard.

Was super easy, so definitely don't pay a company to do it for you. :)
