Say Good Bye to Maelstrom....A 'Frozen' Ride is Definite

I have nothing against a Frozen ride. But I would much prefer to see a NEW ride added, instead of just once again giving a current ride a facelift. Disney could always use MORE rides, not just replacements.

I agree, this is actually a lose-lose.

Assuming Disney still has an obligation to presenting the Epcot countries after the parties that contributed to them lose commitment, then they are failing at that with this potential change and others like it.

But for fans of Disney's popular movies these type of changes are for the most part disappointing as well. No matter what the correlations between the Frozen story and Scandinavian countries are the Norway pavilion is poorly suited for this adaption without a lot of effort (as in money), which I'm not expecting.

My insignificant opinion is that's too bad. I've avoided posting anything about Frozen because so many kids love it. But to me it's more hype than anything. I rather like the songs for 'Wicked' much more. Sorry but Olaf looks ugly to me. But Disney is going to milk this cash cow for all it's worth. I enjoyed Norway pre-princesses. If this pans out, it will be a quick walk through

Blame Norway? That was a serious suggestion??

It's DISNEY'S PARK. Disney...the company turning record profits...needs s sponsor to build a friggin' ride?? I call shenanigans. It's DISNEY'S PARK, and they can well afford to build and maintain their own darn park without extorting....err...charity from foreign countries or any corporate entities.

Disney needs to add capacity...not facelift current attractions. The parks are bursting at the seams with guests. Give them someplace to go!

:thumbsup2

Funny, but I haven't heard any rumors of Busch Gardens Williamsburg threatening to turn Das FestHaus into a Bennigan's unless Germany forks over 9 million...

We're all aware that it's Disney's park and they don't actually NEED anything from the countries represented in the parks; however, a part of me HOPES that Norway would perhaps TRY to prevent this from occurring unless they absolutely are as obsessed with Frozen as everyone else...

At the end of the day, Disney will do what they like but the optimist in hopes that the sponsor gets some type of input or at least the chance to voice an opinion.

No one else uncomfortable with a thread declaring something definite based on my father's brother's cousin's former roommate who is a super duper VP? Very often when I google Disney related questions, this site is at the top of the results. While this rumor seems as inevitable as anything Disney related ever, I'm hesitant to have the DIS declare it definite.

I happen to really like Norway in Epcot. I probably will never get to the real country Norway, so I enjoy the ride as well as the movie. I usually sit through the movie every time I ride.

Only the OP can change it. But I'm with you--they understand the difference between rumor and official (as evidenced by another post), but still go ahead and put "definite" in the title. :confused3

I guess if the government of Norway actually gave a crap about their pavilion they would have stepped up and given Disney the money they wanted for updating it. Instead they've let it go (insert song here). If Maelstrom turns into a carnival ride filled with talking snowmen, don't blame Disney, blame Norway.

I see my attempt at sarcasm crashed and burned..... Norway has been hands-off with that pavilion for years. Whatever Disney wants to do with it should be fine. It's not like Maelstrom doesn't need a makeover. Just don't turn the whole thing into Frozen central.

This one is better suited for the rumors board.

Update 7:52 AM:
Just heard from my brother's wife's hairdresser's dog's groomer's cousin that a very, very high up VP promises there will be no change to Maelstrom.

Update 7:57 AM: Just heard from boss's brother's BFF's mom that the very high up VP is contesting the very, very high up VP's announcement and is filibustering the board room.

Update 8:00 AM: Got a call from my mom. She said my step-dad heard from the mailman via his post master that the very, very high up VP just pulled a gun. The two VPs have now entered single combat to decide the fate of Norway. I'll keep you guys posted of any new developments.

For the first time in forever I'll finally have a reason to visit the Norway pavilion.

I'm glad they're making these changes because that whole World Showcase section is a bit of a fixer upper.

Frozen and Norway are both so intense put em together it just makes sense!

My personal pet peeves:

This kind of thread not being posted on the Rumors forum. As others have said using the word definite too. I don't care if you said your relative is Mickey Mouse and he personally told you. Just because you say so don't make it so.

Raising Walt and " What would he think ? : The man passed away in 1966.

I've said it before, but I don't mind if Maelstrom becomes a Frozen ride; it could use an update anyway. I do not want to see the whole of Norway transformed into Frozenland though, and if they screw up Kringla bakery I'll be very upset.

I want to know just HOW Epcot's gonna run with it's third most popular attraction under refurb. For such a big park, they have no attraction bandwidth. Of course, once Frozen opens, it'll be a huge crowd-draw, hopefully giving some slack to Soarin'. I guess we'll just see what happens.

Excited to see how this plays out.
Love the idea of a new ride, but seems very strange to take over Norway with a movie.
Would prefer this a HS, which needs more little kid rides.

I like how no one seems to care about the possible loss of the BEST part of Maelstrom. . .the weird medley of Norwegian things that made up the mural. Siiiigh. How I'll miss that dude that looks like Chuck Norris. And the little boy, so creepily happy about cleaning fish.

Maybe it's not a full changeover. Maybe they'll just go through and add some "rock" trolls to the ride, but keep the ride the same?

Of course without any true official statement on this, it's all conjecture anyway.

On that note, my best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
