Just got back tonight from DLR, and stumbled in the middle of the protest but at the time wasn't sure what was going on. It wasn't until tonight when I read about the protest that happened yesterday. We went to the parks for a last minute before school starts trip for one night. We stayed at the Hyatt, for $40.00 thanks to priceline. We left the structure at about 5:45 and took Ball rd. to Harbor, so we could check in at the Hyatt. Just as we went over the 5 freeway Harbor Blvd. was at a halt. The police were directing everyone to do a u-turn at the shuttle light near the Best Western. Harbor was shut down in both directions from the 5 through Katella. I really couldn't see what was going on, but it looked like a parade down Harbor. Then my DH said he saw people laying in the street at the Disneyland front entrance. As I u-turned to get out of there my DD11 said she saw a huge flag that was green/white/red. My kids were really scared and saw a lot of Anaheim police around. I wasn't really sure what was going on so I tried to just reassure them everything was o.k. I went back to the 5 south and exited Orangewood, I am glad we stayed a bit away from all the action, since my girls were a little scared....

Probably not exactly what you had planned as part of your visit to Disneyland. Not very nice that your girls got scared because of all the commotion. I hope they were able to forge ahead and enjoy themselves!

This was the exact same post you made on another thread. I wonder why you would want to copy-and-paste an identical post you made and start a new thread with it? And why would you think there needed to be a third thread on the same topic?

Perhaps because she wanted others to be able to see the post of someone who had first hand experience of how it affected them. I don't know what other thread it was posted in but I hadn't seen it and found it interesting to read.

So sorry about the other post, I messed up, I am fairly new on these boards and not the greatest with computers. :confused3 We did have a great time on Friday 8/15, I think the best was the Davy Crockett Canoes, we kept my DH was behind me and kept splashing me.....We had a great time, it was just that we didn't know what happened. With Harbor closed and so many people in the streets we thought and accident occurred at the parks or they shut down the park for some reason..... Sorry again to newfamilyman I did not know there have been 3 threads on this topic. I just got home Friday night from DLR and only saw one thread the one with 32 people getting arrested. I did not see another thread with Disney Resort guests actually being there when it happened, I didn't look far enough, I still was a bit tired.... Sorry if I offended you, my intention was to show what we saw, I had no idea any of this was going on with employees being mad a Disney. Now I do....

Welcome to the boards! :yay:

I didn't see the other post and found it interesting to read a first hand account from just an average person visiting the park. Glad you had fun otherwise! :) As many times as I've been to DL, I've never even been on the canoes before! :confused3

We had just went on Splash Mountain, and there was no line for the Canoes. We grabbed our paddles and hopped on. The best part was when we passed the Coumbia ship on the far side and the people on the ship were cheering us on and clapping. Then the pirates were doing their show and were teasing us how in order to get anywhere we had to paddle, at the time we weren't paddling.:rotfl: It was pretty fun and cooler down on the water.:cool1:

:thumbsup2

I didn't see your other post:) I'm sorry your kids were scared:( That's just not good.

Also on Friday morning, it looked like maintenance, either Disney or City of Anahiem were clearing all the flowers and replanting near the Disneyland entrance on Harbor. It looks like all the Lilly's in that area were trampled down.

It's ok, Dizneygirlz3. I think some people just may still be a little on edge from the heated debate yesterday.

I'm glad you had a nice trip despite the encounter with the strikers.

welcome to the boards and im so sorry that becosue of all that stuff your girls were scared. i pray by oct its over and not happening or as im walking by im gona say something along the lines as "thanks for runieing every ones vacation"
they really should know tossing a temper tantrem isnt gona help them get what they want

Dizneygirlz3, I don't think there is any need to apologize. I did see your other post and it offended me in no way. Truth be told, I have copied and pasted parts of my previous responses on occasion to save myself some typing, especially if it is on a repeat question where the answer is still the same. I do think maybe you just hit on a touchy subject.

Anyway, glad you still had an enjoyable trip.

Thanks for the insight. I hope it all cleared up before we get there. How do the tell a 3 year old whats going on?:confused3
It's hard for me to understand and I've walked a pick it line before for almost 50 days. We never blocked the streets. what does that do for us. Just makes us look like As_.

At the time I just told my kids it was a parade so we have to go around. My DD11 is a little smarter than that and was saying it doesn't look like a parade, people look mad. Then she said who would be mad a Mickey, he is the happiest person I know...My DH said it is more complicated than that we will explain when you are a bit older... Anyway the Hyatt was really nice at $40.00 plus $15.00 for parking. The employess at the Hyatt were super nice too. They brought us up a free rollaway bed. There was a Starbucks and Pizza Hut inside and Red Robin, Outback Steakhouse, Joes Crab Shack and Buca Di Beppo all within walking distance. Honestly I used to love staying onsite but the prices have been outrageous. I remember paying $79.00 for the AP rate for the PP hotel but that was before the GCH was there. I would like to try the HOJO next time...

We didn't use the shuttle because we drove down and I have a premium pass with parking. We did see the shuttle. The Hyatt shares a shuttle with the Crowne Plaza across the street, it is a hotel shuttle not the Anaheim City shuttle. We followed the 8:00 am one in, it looked full and on time. It picks up at the Hyatt first. My friend took the shuttle and had no problems. With Priceline, however, you do not know which hotel you get until your bid is picked up. I always bid 3 star Disneyland area, I start at $40, then go up from there. I usually get something for $50-55. I have gotten the Anaheim Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt. Once the Holiday Inn. Only the Hyatt has the free shuttle, the rest you have to pay for the city shuttle or drive. You are never guaranteed a specific hotel when you bid. Since we drive and live only a few hours Priceline works for us, it is not for everyone. Hope this helps..
