Saw Bad News Bears

20 years ago when I was in high school, profanity was used pretty frequently. The difference was, we knew when we could get away with it and when it was inappropriate (i.e., around "elders" or in public).

MY 14 DD saw it and said it's not for young children. She sad the kids curse and swear way too much.

BNB is NOT a movie for little kids. All the previews, ads, and interviews have been pretty clear, IMO, that this is more of a movie for teens and adults. Just because there are kids in the movie, doesn't mean there should be kids in the theater watching it.

So true! I bought the DVD of the original last year. I was so excited to have my kids watch it, I loved it when I was a kid. Well, they have not watched it. They watch all of 5 minutes, and lose interest. It is the only movie in this house with less than an R rating that my kids will not watch.

I want to see the new one, but I will wait for it to come out on DVD. I have a huge crush in Billy Bob Thornton, but I can't see him in the Walter Mathuea role.

In the posters defense some I have taken my 4 and 6 year old to see some pg 13 movies. We saw StarWars and Fantastic 4. They are pg 13 but for different reasons then this movie but I don't think every pg 13 is a definate no. Like someone else mentioned its best to do some research before taking the dk's. :earsgirl:

We have not seen it yet, but we have seen the original. I have not decided about letting my 11 yr old see it. He has seen the original and I know bad language is something he hears from friends when we are not around. (I am not naive, we used it when we were his age, just never around adults) I also know he has seen movies I would never have let him see at my brother-in-laws home. :rolleyes2 (He will come and tell me about and sometimes has even called and asked me to come get him. He knows what I expect :) ) So I guess I am a little torn about the new movie. If language is the main issue then I may let him see it. However I try to watch the amount of sexually orientated things he sees. I have already fielded some really hard questions in that area. :rolleyes1 So I am watching this thread to gain some more insight into the remake movie. I know I can count on the Dis to lead me the right way :teeth:

DD auditioned for the new version of Bad News Bears. She of course, didn't get a part. They were actually more concerned with how well kids could play baseball than how well they could act. Anyway, I was kind of glad she didn't get anything because I wasn't thrilled with the script. I had seen the original many years ago, but had forgotten what the language was like.

They auditioned kids all over the country. In the end, the little girl that got the lead was the best friend of the director's daughter. Go figure!

hmmm... a little confused  as alot of the replies makes me think you guys think she is a "little" kid.. I never said that .. never posted her age.. she happens to be 13.. I posted this to mention to others who might be thinking about bringing a smaller kiddo.. :listen:

Just watched the original last night! What a trip down memory lane LOL

And yes, there is a ton of cussing by the adults and the kids. In fact at the end of the last game Walter Mathau gives the kids beer to celebrate

DH and I just looked at each other in shock. Neither one of us remebered that part!!!

still.............it was a good movie!!! I hope the new one does it justice.

In the newer version Coach Buttermaker gives them non alcholic beer to celebrate :p

Walter Matthau as the coach in the original didn't bother me but Billy Bob Thornton in a kids movie . ... well that just creaps me out. I have no intention of seeing this movie.

Well actually one of the writers is a very good friend of my family. We basically grew up together. If they ever do a behind the scenes look at this guy's life, there will be footage of me and all our friends making horror films in his backyard!

:rotfl2: Billy Bob has some great child interaction in that one!!!!!!! I love that movie, we had to buy the unrated one, just to see how much badder it could get. Any Gilmore Girls fans who love sweet Lorelai should see it too :rotfl: .
